Default First units for a new Legion player

I'm relatively new to Legion and want to start getting some units, does anyone have any advice on which to start with? My casters are pLylith, and eThag.

Lots of shredders for eThags. Striders + UA are a good unit in general to have. So are legionnaires and the spawning vessel (think of them as a module that works well together).

Agreed, Striders + UA and/or Full Legionnaires + Full Spawning Vessel will almost always serve you well in almost every match up where you have room for 9 points.

EDIT: If you get a Spawning Vessel, you'll probably want at least 1 blister of each of the lessers (Which you should have got for eThagrosh anyway).

Striders + UA (Always add the UA) are one of the most useful Legion Units to have for a number of reasons: They're self sufficient, able to spread out to cover huge parts of the board, almost always require disporportional force to dislodge, and will quietly flank behind an army to create very uncomfortable moment for your opponent if left unanswered. Plus, they all but assure infantry ranged superiority.

They were one of my first units, and I really enjoy fielding them. That said, they do require a bit of finesse and a good eye for distance that was difficult for me as a beginning player. So for all their strengths, there is a bit of a learning curve that may prove frustrating to a new player while they underperform to your expectations.

For that reason, I really feel like Hex Hunters are a similar unit in some respects that always have a wide variety of applications, and may not have quite the learning curve. They're likewise a very fast, pathfinding, and stealthed unit and can be irritating for an opponent to deal with, but you won't have to do things like accurately estimate 17"+. And while Legionnaires are good, I don't think they quite reinforce the ranged elements of Legion the way Striders or Hex Hunters may, and may not fit in lists that can't tolerate lacking pathfinders!

    Welcome and good luck!

Awesome, I was already leaning towards the Striders + UA as a pick up, I already have a deathstalker, but the responses have given me some other cool stuff to think about. Thanks guys.

The most important units in the game for Legion for a new player starting out to pick up are Striders (with UA), Legionnaires (with or without the UA), Raptors and Hex Hunters (with or without UA) in that order.

start by getting heavies. Scythean, Ravagore, Typhon are all good initial choices. From there, you should pick up some shredders, shepherds, and forsaken, and deathstalkers, and you'll have yourself a list out of it. Some good casters to pick up first are pvayl and saeryn.
