Default 75 pt Karchev Tier 4, 2 mechs, or drakhun dismount?

    The list:

    Karchev
    -Behemoth
    -Devastator
    -Kodiak
    Demo Corps (max)
    Bombadeers (max)
    Shock Troopers (min)
    Shock Troopers (min)
    Ternion
    Ternion
    Koldun Lord
    Koldun Lord
    Mechaniks (max)
    -Mechanik UA
    Drakhun (no dismount)

Debating if it's worth it for the max mechanics (given that many MOWs) or if I'd be better off with the dismount on the Drakhun.

Mechanics all the way. You have a lot of repairable stuff in that list.

I would stick with the mechanics given the number of repairable models that you have in your list. Your mechanics are easier to kill and are going to be the enemy number one if your opponent doesn't have high pow ranged attacks.

So I went 2-3 on the day. And all the losses were my fault.

Round 1 was 25pts v pButcher. All he had left was the Spriggan, Fenris, and pButcher. I had 1 Demo Corps and I think 1 bombadeer, a Koldun Lord, and 2 or 3 Greylord Ternions and the Devastator. But it was 5 minute turns. Feeling rushed and not thinking things out well enough, I noticed my opponent have put pButcher within 10". So I immediately planned out the kill process, including trying to clear the remaining great bears. Killed all but 1 great bear, so I had to trample. I killed the GB en route, got to pButcher with 5 focus, then noticed that he had IF and 3 focus. Needed some bonkers dice to pull it off, and came up short. pButcher took Karchev out the next turn. Had I fell back that turn, I would have been in a great position to win on attrition.

Round 2 was 35 points v Terminous. A great matchup for me as my low soul count largely negated his feat. I tow-whipped the Behemoth into Nightmare, and killed him easily. Clogged up all the charge lanes as well as I could, and figured I was in pretty good shape with his Bane Thralls staring at ARM 21 Shock troopers, his only heavy off the table, and no clear lanes to Karchev. But you know how Terminus has those huge wings on his model? yeah, aparently that means he has 'flight'. And you'd think I would remember this, after having previously forgotten it last time I played against Terminous. So he flew over Karchev, ate 10 points off a free strike (even tripple 6's wouldn't have killed him), and proceded to wreck Karchev.

Round 3 I was feeling pretty bummed, down 2 off of stupid mistakes on my part. The army had performed flawlessly. My Skorne opponent was familiar with the tow-whip and purposefully positioned himself just outside of the scoring zone at the top of turn 2. So I tow-whipped the Devastator and ran it into the zone, just into melee with his Bronze back. At ARM 25, I wasn't worried about him killing it, but I figured he would 2-handed throw it or something. It allowed me to pick up 1 control point Next turn he positioned to get some kills, but had a beast frenzy and he tried to kill the Devastator with the bronze back, and came up way short. For what ever reason, he failed to move any models into the zone, so I scored a 2nd control point. My turn, I cleaned up a few models for points, and scored the 3rd control point for the easy win.

Round 4 was against a local Legion player, only he was playing Cygnar, with a Storm Wall. This was the 75 point event, and the army continued to perform admirably. The Bombadeers took out almost all of the gun mages and a couple of boomies, Demo Corps had cleared a bunch as well. And the 6 Greylords were awesome. I messed up positioning the devastator though, so when I had my shot to whip Behemoth into the Stormwall, I had to waste the Devy's movement getting him out of the way. That wound up being critical as the Behemoth wiffed on damage on the Stormwall (trip-1's for teh lose). And due to my earlier positioning mistake, I couldn't move the devy to block the remaining approach. eHaley shot/TK'd behemoth out of melee, then her bonded and TA'd Storm Wall advanced 9" and used its 4 focus to bury Karchev. I'm amazed that bonding is allowed on Colossals...

Round 5 was back down to 50 points, against a solid Circle list, eKaya I think. The dice hated my opponent. He was doing everything right, but the dice just wouldn't see him through it. I made a few mistakes, again exposing Karchev to what should have been a very damaging assault, but eventually I had a chance to clear both zones for the quick 2 point scenario win.

All in all, I loved the way the army performed. I was really afraid that the lack of tools was really going to hurt. No Eyriss, no dog, no great bears, very limited shooting, no high def infantry, etc... But even against pButcher with some rather serious armor cracking, I was still holding up rather well. Over the entire day, I don't think the Devastator attacked once, he just stayed balled up controlling/contesting zones. I'd really love to keep rocking Karchev this summer to make up for my mistakes, but with the Conquest coming out next month, I think Hark and Old Witch are going to be calling my name
