    Default Hail to the King!!

So I got this guy purely by luck. I had a ninja shopper who left the day these big boys came out at L&L. The stars aligned and was able to acquire one from a friend of a friend. I'm still a pretty novice painter, but this guy was a lot of fun to paint and I wanted to share my results with the community. Enjoy, C&C welcome. I included one picture with Grim, just to show the scale of how big this guy really is if you haven't seen one yet.

Thank you. I wanted to get him painted up for Wargamescon. I know my friend will be there with his Conquest and I wanted to put a fully painted MK up against him.

For a novice painter that one is really good. I like it.

Only thing I'd to critizise is his boring base. 120 mm bases deserve more than just static grass in my opinion...!

Looks good. I like the extra details like the patch fabric and the buckling ground.

For being a novice painter I really look forward to when you paint stuff as an expert!

You have pulled of the texturing quite lovely

if that is "novice" work. then I guess Im just throwing paint at the minis and hoping it sticks. Very well done job sir. As one person said a bit more on the base would be good, but a very very well painted model sir. Did you use an airbrush at all?

Thanks so much for all the positive feedback everyone!! I agree with the basing being a touch boring for such a large model. I've never done anything aside from static grass on any of my models. I'm open to any suggestions on what might be a good idea for more interesting basing.

@lord17c I didn't use an airbrush on him.

Well, more Whelps or another "rage-crater" would be a good approach, I guess...!

I was thinking more whelps could be good. I'll have to pick up another unit maybe and give that a try. It would definitely be something easy I could add to what is already there.

If I could make a suggestion on the base: One easy thing to add would be some boulders or flat-rock. After all, he's smashing some sort of rock with his left hand, and that couldnt be the only piece around! I've used the technique in this article on my trolls bases, just to add some variety.

    Hope this helps!

@ninja I was thinking the same thing. It does seem a little out of place with that being the only rock. I'll have to check out that article. I didn't see the link to it however.

Sorry, it's imbedded in the 'this'. But here's the full link: http://handcannononline.com/blog/201...re-boomhowler/

That seems really quick and easy. I think I will do a combination of that and some more whelps. Thanks for the link ninja. It will have to wait until after my trip, but I will definitely give that a shot.

I love this painted model. I actually like how the base is kept simple, on this huge model it works to it's advantage.

You have painted the skin with striking colours and I prefer these the model painted for PP.

@waaargh thank you so much. That is a great compliment, I really appreciate it. I've only been painting for about a year and never painted so much as a finger paint before that. That makes me feel a lot better on how I view my painting skills

I think you did a good job. The model looks really menacing. I can't wait to see the Mammoth.

I'm on the side of the side of nice simple base for it. On that note great job, what a great looking model when it's painted up nicely.

Honestly, I think this came out better than the one PP painted! You should be proud of your work.

But I am not disappointed, that is one hell of a good paint job!

Dude, this is not novice painting.

Well I really appreciate that volt, but I just can't publicly come out and say I"m any better than novice at this point. I see some of the stuff on here that people like Ghool do, or that ArizonaTrollblood (sorry I probably butchered that) and I feel like a four year old with finger paints :P I appreciate the vote of confidence though. This is my first tabletop game and I started about a year ago. I never painted anything in my life up until then and I actually never wanted to paint when I first started. I made my buddy who got me into the game paint my battlebox. One day I gave it a shot and fell in love with it.

I also want to say that I really love the community here for the painting/modeling. I browse the forums a good bit and everyone is very nice and supportive. If the community here was as critical as those in League of Legends or Heroes of Newerth, I would have never even tried to post anything up here.

I love the paint job, man!!

I love the skin tones and the rock on his back. I do think some other rocks would look real nice on his base, but it doesn't ruin the model of they aren't there. My thinking is more of the idea that there would be more rocks around, not just the one he's smashing.

My fight against not getting this model so I can pay for real life things is weakening... I want to paint it so much!!

I have to say very nice.

A couple of whelps running away from him on the base could add a bit of chaotic interest to the base though.

    Still Damn nice..

I may have to put some whelps on the base then. Yes I did paint those other trolls as well. I started painted trolls back in February and the Earthborn and Bomber were the first ones. I was testing out different skin colors on them.
