Storm Strider...Pretty Sweet.

Several months ago, I made a thread asking if I should buy one, since it seemed cool on paper but had a rather extravagant price tag and the model was a little bit weird looking for my tastes.

However, ever since then, I've played it in most of my lists, and I've found it to be incredible. It has most of the things I'd want in a single model - it shoots, its shots hurt, it can do anti-infantry/support, it has good range, has decent mobility, can be incredibly accurate, and isn't the easiest thing to kill. Plus its a massive road block, and its 5" bubble of extra accuracy is pretty big given its base. I don't often necessarily take a ton of lightning-based models with it, but at least it gets its own accuracy bonus if its close enough. Plus, it provides no focus strain on my warcasters.

I'll admit; part of me feels like I might actually be disillusioned by how seeming good it is, and that 9 points of infantry or another jack might do better, but I've played those types of lists, and I find it rather difficult nowadays to leave the Strider out of several of my lists, particularly for guys like Siege and pCaine.

One of the contributing factors to my self-doubt is the seeming lack of mention about it. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, but I seem to see it mostly mentioned when people talk about its synergy (e.g. taking it with more lightning stuff or N3mo recently) but not so much as a solid stand-alone. I personally think it deserves a little bit more credit as a very viable purchase, albeit a costly one $-wise.
Or, it could be good and people just don't talk about it because everyone knows its good and there is little to talk about.

What are your thoughts on it?

P.S. I got used to its looks which I initially disliked, and it draws the attention of non-WM players. Seems like a great way to get people interested in the game.

I was play testing mine till Stormwall came out I Love it actually Its better then a defender with two pow 15s. I cant wait to field it with Stormwall in 50pts and try running no jacks Four Pow 15s RNG 14 sound awesome. I also like him with pStryker for snipe and then he can aim a lot more.

I played The SS in alot of list. in the end it didnt fit the rolls like i wanted it to and traded him in. he is getting more use now with n3mo tho. altho i do feel he needs help with hitting when he doesn't have any tokens to help that out.

I like my Storm Striders and i play 2 with eHaley Strombringers tier. With 3Tokens each they deal a lot of dmg. Did not used them with other caster so much, but now think maybe Nemo3 should help there dmg. But they great, they get pow15 shots without any focus and even help with infantry.

I love mine with Sloan - something massive to refuge behind whilst advancing up the field, gets boosted attack rolls on the feat and can be deadeyed if needed.
I found it a bit lacklustre with casters that can't boost its accuracy in an way since very few people are willing to give me power tokens.
Now N3mo's out it's going to be in every single one of his lists

Earlier this year, the Storm Strider helped to make Darius playable again for me. Its self sufficentcy plus huge 5" base came in handy. Also after being craned by Darius once and maybe moving once, it usually stood still the rest of the game. Most of my opponents learned to either kill it in 1 turn or just ignore it in order to deny me power tokens. Though drifting AOEs still occasionally gave it a token. The massive 6" crane move is fabulous.

I use it all the time. It's really, really good at being self sufficient and receiving buffs. Good damage on hard targets, good at clearing infantry, hard to kill, just all around a great piece for 9 points.

I have two, and I love mine. They haven't seen a lot of table time lately since at my flgs people dont like playing ehaley for funsies, and she's my main caster with them

I love my Striders. I typically run them with either Haley and Sloan, but am looking to branch out more. I'm thinking Nemo3 will be happening soon, as will Mr. Brisbane.

Like the Stormwall, its a considerable monetary investment for a single model, but it really adds another dynamic to both the look of your army as well as its performance.

Not saying its a good idea, but....it would be fascinating to say the least :P

I wouldn't say that. Defender doesn't rely on being hit in order to boost and can be marshalled to ATGM. Defender can also mix it up in melee.

I did just that and it's very fun. Nemo3 really makes both of them shine. I also ran a Defender, 2 Minutemen, Arlan and 2 Storm Towers in the list. Wife still beat me with Kaya Warpwolf spam...

I've just ordered me a storm strider along with ehaley and B13 all in all I can't wait to use them especially the strider I mainly live the fluff behind it all I wernt crazy about its looks when I first seen it but it grew on me in a matter of days

Sorry didn't specify enough in terms of shooting its better IMO just because it can aim with snipe for the same points I like it more but yes the defender def wins in melee but gunfighter with its 5" buff can some times make up for it.

I run it with eHaley almost every time. TK + TA makes it a threat to infantry swarms and heavies.
