    Default Live from Japan!

So I'm livin' here in the land of the rising sun for a couple years and I decided (in the midst of a typhoon no less) to start painting again. So to kick things off I went with a Shredder from my Legion Battlebox (or warpack, same difference). As a test model and my first attempt at proper painting in about a year I don't think he's to bad, especially for table top quality. There are a few mistakes, namely the base color for the skin was way more watery than I wanted, it took multiple coats just to get him a solid color. Teeth also aren't quite what I wanted, I tried making a poor man's yellow ink with my Cygnus Yellow and water but it went on stronger than I thought it would. Other than that I think he came out well and I may expand the color scheme to my other Legion models (the beasts at least), though I do have 3 more shredders to play with......

What will you do for the base? The model looks fine to me.

    Thank you!

As for the base, frankly I don't know. I didn't own any basing material and I have yet to find a hobby shop within easy reach, nor is there one on base that I have found (US military if you haven't guessed already). I might just do a BS paint the base fun colors (like grassy or maybe lava underneath, you get the idea), would also give me a chance to work more on blending and shading (two areas I have always felt lacking in).

Good thing is that while I may not have tons of free time, I can always put in an hour or two every night. Plus like I said we are in typhoon season so we get restricted to barracks then and I can just concentrate on painting. In short, lots of experimenting and painting will be done!

Your location says you're in Okinawa. Kadena?

As near as I can tell, there's one TTG retailer in Okinawa, in Naha: http://www.mibro83.com/

Your closest rail stop looks like Makishi Station.

They don't list Warmahordes, so probably no P3 stuff, but GW's website says they carry the full Citadel line, which means paints and basing material from them.

The place also apparently has permanent gaming tables and is host to a gaming club called the Southern Cross Hammers.

People call Khador the "slow faction". Yeah. Slow like a runaway freight train.

Wow, many thanks! And no, I'm actually in Hansen but I can still easily reach reach it with a quick bus ride and a cab. So moar paints will be had (and some basing material, maybe some proper ink, and probably whatever looks shiny )!

If you want a quick and dirty way of basing, just glue on some sand and paint it with some thinned brown paint. It's not the prettiest, but it gets the job done and can have static grass added to it later.

Another one is layering on some kind of filler onto the bases, paint it brown, ink it brown and it looks like mud

While it doesn't look fantastic, it also has the pleasant side effect of filling the gaps in the bases

The pose make the little guy look like he is a little bit drunk. But that is kind of cute.

Hey man, check out the TTWG on Facebook, they have a dedicated play area and get together every weekend I believe. A buddy of mine used to be the VP of the Club. Good luck!

Wow, this is like seeing a dream come true. I honestly didn't think I would find anyone who played warmachine on this island. Guess I'm gonna have to rope one of my buddies in to go down there this weekend. Many thanks!

Alright, I admit I should have posted this bugger yesterday (or the day before more like *cough*) but I was a bit distracted repairing a few models who didn't survive the flight as well. I was also working on my Warhogs (who are WIP and won't get posted yet) so there's my excuse for slow posting.

Anyway, this is my first try at actually painting some blood on the model. You might not be able to tell well, but the teeth came out a lot closer to the yellowed color I was shooting for with the last model. I actually had to add more yellow rather than less like I thought (or at least, when mixing it with my white). Overall I feel pretty good about this guy and I hope the blood won't be his when he finally hits the table top.

I like your cute little shredders!
btw i'm surprised any of your models survived the flight, and by flight i assume you meant propelled by the typhoon!

lol, no I do mean the plane flight over here. A few got dinged up (notably one of my war hogs has a slightly messed up elbow) or broke apart (my good ol'
ironclad literally broke at the waist), but for the most part it was just pieces falling off. Really should invest in some sort of bags they would be safer in, though this might be a one time thing cause the only reason they weren't carry on was because I already had all my uniforms and electronics as my carry on. And thanks! I like painting the little guys. Simple and kinda quick, though some of the details are a bit small for me to get easily (notably the little bumps all over their bodies).
