Apparently, Mr. Seacat was asked at an L&L panel on Life in the IK about half-elves specifically.

He replied that humans and elves share some genetic similarities, but there would be very few opportunities for such a union to occur and the vast majority of any which did would likely be stillborn. As a result “there might be 3 of them.”

So there you go. It's possible. It still seems to be a divine typo rather than a genetic process, but he was not that specific.

Still, I still reckon a Half Elf may be a nice way to get the Retribution a mercenary Warcaster - if a half elf is ALREADY a statistical near-impossibility, why not push the odds a bit further?

The only thing that seems consensual in the IK is love of violence.

And whatever, I'd take a Half-Elf 'caster that is a Partisan or whatever. Hell, he/she can even be on purpose. Just like Vol, for any Eberron fans out there.

Screw statistics. Our faction already looks like they're from another planet, I don't mind standing out even more.

Half-elves, one of those things that the game inherited from its D20 roots. I guess those 3 "divine typos" were part of the campaign I never finished years ago.


Edit: And yeah a half-elf caster can get away with using both mercs 'jack and Myrmidons and that would be awesome.

Anyway, I agree. They seem to be something that was went with and then the cosmology got a bit more filled out and they were stuck with it. Not that I'd mind a half-elf character of some kind. I just thought it was an interesting tidbit and I know we had discussed just a little while back. So it's just an FYI for my fellow pointy ears!

Psh, oh yeah! Seacat, when asked about Half-Elves could have just said "Holt" and mostly answered it from there.
