    Default D20 Iron Kingdoms setting

I just got my Character Guide and World Guide on Monday, and wonder to myself how a setting so rich as this has escaped my sight over the last several years. This setting is one of the best hands down, I am putting the finishing touches on my groups first game (Witchfire Volume-1) which will go off on Monday 6-25-2012. The group (2 daughters, son and brother) are looking forward to it, as we all are new to this role playing setting we get the chance to learn its history, powers and excitement together.

As a whole I didnt spend an arm and a leg picking up the few books I purchased, Character Guide $30- Amazon, World Guide $ 35- Ebay, Witchfire $7- Amazon, Monstercion 2 $10- Bartertown. less then 100- to get going, is anyone else currently playing or running a game in the D20 setting?

Most of us are waiting for the v2.0 of IKRPG to come out, which moves away from D20, but the original was and still is a good system, just some of the workarounds with D&D3.5 and Iron Kingdoms always felt a little awkward.
Me? Addicted to wargames? Never! I just like them... and I must buy figures... er... not addicted just slighty reliant on them

I'm currently running a Witchfire game and we've got a session on saturday. Since at the final act of Shadow of the Exile I'm going to finish the Witchfire trilogy using the D20 rules, although I'm saving the Umbral Spiral for later use, possibly as the start of my Sons of Thuria campaign.

As Enazel said a lot of us are eagerly awaiting the new IKRPG due out this summer, as IK and 3.5 have never been a good fit. IK has a lot of great concepts that were never well represented using the 3.5 rules, like mechanika and warcasters.

The D20 books are all great for fluff so your money is well spent, if you're looking to spend some more I highly recommend Five Fingers: Port of Deceit and Monsternomicon Vol. I. Liber Mechanika describes the technology of the Iron Kingdoms very well, but I think its less useful the the other books, since its so tied into the mechanika creation system.

Some head's up on Witchfire Trilogy... you'll definitely want to read ahead as the GM and add a little bit of "environmental advantage" for your PC's in certain fights. Some of the fights are way, WAY beyond the capabilities of your standard party. There were at least three that I can think of where total party wipes are almost an expectation rather than a possibility. If you've got a group of just totally min-maxed characters, they'll probably be fine... but if they're anything approaching "normal", they're gonna get their butts kicked (my gunmage couldn't even deal damage in some fights).
It's not a question of win or lose, it's a question of whether or not you want to have friends afterwards.

Thanks for the heads up, the group is average, only person who is above average is my daughters Witch/ aka Sorcerer, the second volume is on order. I plan on running the trilogy in D20 and by the time we run through this I hope to have a copy of the new rules get through how to play the new system and let them start fresh.

It is... the Malefactor class is easily my favorite prestige class from Iron Kingdoms, but mostly because I like playing Lawful Evil characters that no one realises are evil until it's too late.

Five Fingers is gold. Luckily, there's a copy available on eBay for less than gold, if anyone was to do a search...

Five Fingers should serve as a template for how a setting book should work.

I liked the Liber Mechanika, but you don't need it, strictly speaking.
Corruption's a lot of fun, are you sure you don't want to try it?

I just ordered my Five Fingers off of Amazon for 25- very happy about it.
