It isn't as cool as Dacian's clockwork bases, but I have a pretty cool industrial base with a few gearsfor my storm strider.

My regular foot soldiers, jacks, and casters have fairly modest, simple bases. It is a combination of static grass, autumn flocking, and dry-brushed paint brush bristles. First I dry brush a section of a cheap (dollar store) home paint brush (the kind that is usually 3 or 4 inches wide. Then I cut off a section, put a blob of hot glue on the base from a hot glue gun, place and hold the bristles until the glue sets. Then I glue the autumn flocking around the base of the bristles to hide the hot glue gun blob. Then I cover the rest of the base with static grass.
For my Storm Strider, I needed to do a bit more. At the time, my main opponent I played was a Circle player, so I decided to play some head games. First I used a bunch of Mighty Putty (yes, the Billy Mayes stuff from TV). That built up the base, and a small hill. I then got a blister with a Sentry Stone and Mannikins. I placed the Mannikins and the chopped up sentry stone on the base while the Mighty Putty was still setting up. (the standing Mannikin was pinned into the base. I still need to put grass on the base to complete it. But here's a wide shot and a set of close-ups.

Shinji, my snow bases and a couple other of my basing tutorials are in the "tutorial finder" thread that's stickied in the painting and modeling section.
Cool, thanks. Think I need to look at pinning and into some putty.
Got some trench warfare/battle field bases

@col_festus man I love all your bases! (the painting is top notch too) I am going to friend you on flickr if thats alright
Mine are incredibly easy: But a blob of green stuff/putty on the base, spread with a broad, flat sculpting tool. The tool will create natural mud textures from rain water rivulets, foot steps, and the various other things that happen out in No Mans Land between trench lines. Add rocks(using ballast) and small puddles(using water effects or clear plastic/cockpit glass creator glue) to taste.
For my Trench bases, do the same but cut up balsa strips to the appropriate thickness and varying lengths for the duck boards and glue on top, pressing them slightly into the green stuff.
I plan on adding barbed wire to some of the bases, I've just yet to find a style I like(my self-made attempts don't come out to my liking).

This was from back when I was playing Warhammer, and haven't done it yet with and Warmachine things, but maybe someday...

This thread is all kinds of awesome. Consider me subscribed.
@ Col_Festus: What did you use for your rocky outcropping?! That looks cool. I"m always looking for other ideas.
@ the community, what do you use for moss? Greenstuff? Flocking? I have some sprue bits that I'm making a mossy overhang that my Hunter will be hiding and shooting from under (pictures to come), but I need some help with Moss.
I usually don't go all out basing generic models, but I do add fun stuff to character models/units (aside from my Talion stuff). The Devil Dogs are the wrecking crew. Makes sense they would be dodging junk they just wrecked. I need more pics to post on these (I'll edit this post). This is the only pic I have at current.

Why is all the pirate gone?
Need Moar Pirates...
I am trying out some orange rocky/desert typ bases on some of mine....
More subdued, but you can kind os see where it fades to some orange rock... looks better from the top down.
or some rock bits on my bases like this...
and this...
All pretty simple, but look pretty decent i think. Haven't gone to extreme on my bases yet... but i may for some of my upcoming casters.
All I can say about this thread is wow.. Some truly inspiring bases.
I have taken my bases generally to the next step but some of these are to the next level, keep it up.![]()
I also got an honorable mention in NQ for the basing competition with this Beast 09.

Here you go. Hey, the thread title said "bases," nothing about actual, y'know models. (They'll have Amethyst Rose Gun Mages on them sometime soon.)

Here is the base that I recently finished for my Stromwall. My entire Cygnar force will have the same type of basing as well. One thing that I am using for dirt on these bases that I have never used before is pre-mixed concrete patch. It is very sticky and adhesive like, has a great gritty feel to it, and can be made to look very smooth as well. I am absolutely in love with this stuff!!
Here are some pics!
I still need to go back now and add some filler in around the feet so that the model is more incorporated with the base, and then give the feet and lower legs a good dusting as well.

With such a large (and awesome) trench base, that Stormwall is going to be even huger than usual!
Not being much of a base expert myself, I can only offer this. Having the explosive canisters blast into (and litter on) the base was a new thing for me...
