Default So I had to fight a stormwall D:

It annihilated my beasts on turn one and two, but it turns out 4 cetrati, a tyrant commander, 2 arcuarii, and Xerxis can take it down on Xerxis feat turn I was really worried about how I'd deal with it when he killed the Bronzeback though. I'm glad my trust in my heavy infantry was not misplaced.

sucks that it took that many resources, but glad you found a way to still mow him down. was the game a loss or a victory?

Stormwall killed a Bronzeback at range? Wow. With the rise of the Colossals, I think we'll be seeing a few more Basilisk Krea in our lists.

I've only faced a Stormwall once, and it crumpled in a single turn when it met crushing Titan fists. But by concentrating on the Stormwall, I ended up losing that game. It was a bit like what happens with Molik Karn: he's great bait. People panic and devote too many resources to killing him, leaving the rest of your army more free to achieve its goals.

Honestly you cant worry too much about them like sure if they go ignored they will detroy u just like anything. However playing skorne i usually just go for the caster anyways, and the only problem colossals pose to that is they r just really fat and take up alot of space. I think the big down side to colossals is they are like 2 jacks in 1 but since they are 1 they are really susceptible to flanking and out manuvering in general. I have played a couple games so far and really havent had a problem killing them. The bronzeback has killed every one out so far in 1 turn.

Well the Bronzeback died to a mixture of the Stormwall and a couple ridiculously high-rolling hunters on his turn one. And the game was a draw because after I took down the Stormwall we had lost pretty equivalent points but he had to go so we just called it. Basically I had 5 injured cetrati, 2 injured arcuarii, the tyrant and standard bearer, 5 beast handlers, and Xerxis up, while he had his caster, 1 severely wounded hunter, 1 untouched hunter, and a couple of solos up. It felt pretty even considering he had the next turn in that setup and we had both already feated.

Wait till you fight a Darius + Stormwall! If you can't kill it in a single turn, he'll heal it to full (his whole battle group). I played a pretty nasty Darius + Stormwall attrition list, I won but due to Death clock (Xerxis brick, it was a huge slug fest).

Last night I got a game in against the Conquest. After an enraged brozneback rolled 17 on the dice for the charge it was over. Sadly my insane rolling did not last and the Conquest was left with seven hit points, requiring another model to finish it off.
Any problem can be solved by throwing more Mammoths at it, both literally and figuratively

It wont help vs colossals, but extollers will absolutely destroy gargantuans. A few can table one.

It seems pretty established that we can deal with big scary Stormwalls, which is awesome, but I was wondering how people found the lightning pod rules, in game? Haven't seen one yet so haven't had a chance to see how it affects us/plays out.

They're sort of weird in their interaction against Skorne; I was afraid of them frying my paingivers and support staff, but since the range is so close, if they threaten such things, they're almost certainly in charge range. I think the best use of them I've seen so far was to block off lanes and force something else to kill it before the gladiators and bronzebacks can get in there.

I like to play Skorne w/ Titans, Menoth with heavy jacks or Exemplars, and Farrow with Warhogs. I never worry about Colossals

Meh, unless I was taking a canoneer or something that wanted eyeless sight I don't think I'd bother. 2-4 points on these guys is alot of extra to spend when a gladiator or bronzeback seems to do the job just as well and are probably in my list already anyways.

I played against the Stormwall maybe 4 times at L&L. I usually only bring 1 titan so I knew I couldn't get the job done, but I found it very easy to outmaneuver even with titans. I learned that Colossals are perhaps the best sidestep targets in the game since in most cases you need a 3 to hit them and people foolishly park their casters behind them. P Makeda dealt the killing blow on the opposing caster (Nemo 3) for the first time this way thanks to the Stormwall.

Kind of a long way to walk on 2 side-step moves, to get around that big base isn't it? Let's see <does some math> it should be 7.42" of circumference to navigate halfway around its base, right? Or did you get the charge into the side?

Fought a 3mo army with Stormwall tonight. It is devastating to infantry but couldn't stand up to an enraged charging Bronzeback.

I have to say it wasn't that much of a danger. eHex had Ashen Veil on himself so hitting him was a challenge. Black Spot and liberal doses of Ashes to Ashes took out his Storm Glaives and Storm Smiths. The Raider managed to waste 3mo's tag-a-long and the Cannoneer tied up and contested one of the control points.

Overall I think this is going to be one heck of a fun time to play the game.

Anyone get a chance to face down pHaley with 1/2 stormwalls? That seems to be the current theory-machine boogieman, due both to the run/charge denial from TB (meaning the OP might have been in trouble with no ability to charge, though admittedly Cataphract + Fury + Xerxis' Feat may have been enough), the extra shooty potential, and her ability to negate enemy spells to prevent debuffing.

I'm curious to see how we'll fare against such a list.

I normally pack a Krea, so I feel I can keep the beasts/Cataphracts alive long enough to get in close. Metal Storm is barely going to scratch them, and once I start within 14" the Agoniser says goodbye to Focus which means no more boosting for the big guns. Beasts being shielded by a Krea and sitting in gobber clouds? That's still effective DEF 14, so the Stormwalls are on the verge of needing to boost to hit them. The Agoniser himself is also tough enough to tank Lightning pod hits so he's not easy to pick off.

On top of that Haley's feat sucks with Stormwalls. 1 extra attack per Stormwall, not hard to deal with.

And I get there? Well it's Xerxis. Arcane shield or not come feat turn those Stormwalls are turning into scrap.

I will also point out that statistically ARM 24 Cetrati under feat turn are unlikely to die to retaliatory Sweep attacks also.

Also while my opponent is trying his damndest to remove the hard frontline I will point out I will have Venators and Angry Nihilators sprinting around either flank looking for a date with Ms Haley herself.

In all honesty I'm more worried about that Longgunner Caine list that thwarted Watt's Xerxis.

I have played many games against them mostly at 50 points and i have never had a problem with it killing my beasts or my beast no killing it. Bronze back has kill every one it has touched so far. Played a game with xeris and tibbers and he 3 shot one with arcane shield.

Anything short of a buff (failesafe, temper metal, batten hatch) and spiny growth won't save a colossal from enraged bronzeback. But, other than conquest and judicator, all colossals natively out-threat bronzeback in melee as well, so you do still need some other factors to get that bronzeback into melee (unless you're pMorg or eMak)

I actually didn't need the charge with the sheer amount of weapon master Xerxis's feated infantry I was hitting it with. Honestly that list really has no problem against high-armor low-defense targets even if they happen to have 60-odd boxes.

EDIT: In case it's unclear I mean that I didn't get the charge as I opted to maintain shield wall instead and it certainly paid off.

Gotcha. Yeah, Xerxis has always been an optimal solution to high-value, high-arm/damage box, so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that he's ok with a juicy 18+ point target. Glad to hear we're subjugating properly .

I played Ehexy VS PHaley and the Stormwall last night (35pts).
It was just as frustrating as I expected.
All I can say is you need to play scenarios against that list. My Bronzeback and Glad just advanced slowly up the board ( Rush + 4" Walk because of TB) and EHexy and the Vens blasted *everything else* off the table. He put down pods in front of the BB (hey no Advance after being shot!!) and proceed to blast the BB down to a couple of boxes.
Game ended with me winning scenario. He really only had PHaley and the Stormwall left to contest at the end of the game (he forgot to launch a pod at the objective to contest.

We agreed that EMakeda would be a good solution to this list. Leash your beast out of the 16" TB range and charge it back into the Stormwall.
I keep hearing about how an enraged BB is going to save the day for Skorne. Your dreaming against PHaley. Any half way competent player wont let that happen.

Not completely sure no......but they are listed as Cygnar solos, and therefore able to contest.
    I hope we were wrong.

Yes I hit the Stormwall from the side and the Old Man wasn't parked directly behind it either.

As for the pods the scenario section of Prime would say they can contest by virtue of being a model but they cannot control since their cmd score is nonexistent and therefore below 2.

Played against on the other day with rasheth, had to blood mark it (it had arcane shield on it) & had 2 enraged titans charge it (glad and sentry) just managed to take it down with average rolls

I think it is Phaley and her ability to say no to running, charging, spell casting on the colossal that makes things tough for us.
We can't even "Enrage" the beasts....
