Default First Painted Miniature ever (WIP)

Picked up Warmachine Khador Battle box and started painting. My first attempt at painting a miniature, I'm having a blast!

Decided to paint the Juggernaut first. I only have the base coat down so far, but I'm liking the color scheme. I'm going to paint racing stripes down the top hatch and across the head cover.

your lines are clean, probably the best thing you can master first is that, and you got it. id suggest some shading, or get some silver and make those rivets pop.

    example:

Sweet work!!! I agree with Deademon about clean painting being something to master. And also to paint the rivets. Did you primer up Juggs, or is the gray the plastic color. I'm on my iPhone so it looks like the gray is the plastic color.

One tip, though: thin your paints. The red on his right leg looks a little clumpy. It really is better to do several thin coats instead of one thick one. Your results will grow exponentially and you even more proud. You're looking to get the consistency of milk.

Looks good. Alot better than my first . As a beginer painter myself, there are a few tips that have made painting easier for me and have made for better looking models. Priming the mini will help the paint hold on to the model, thinning down your paints with a little water will help keep a smoother finish (I still struggle with this, but I'm learning as well.), and using dark washes and light dry brushing really adds depth to a model without adding a whole lot of effort.

Yeah I primed it grey. I'll definitely work on thinning my paint more. Thanks for the advice!

This guys looks awesome, I look forward to seeing him finished. I am also terrified to see the army across the battlefield from me done up like this.

This is looking great! Very clean work so far. My advice for the new guy is: Thin your paints! It's the best lesson I ever learned while painting

    Update:

I got the racing stripes on and started shading everything. I still need to do highlights and probably a good wash on the metal.

I'd recommend picking out all of those rivets - right now they don't really stand out.

I really love how crisp and bright everything looks. The shading around the neck is something I really like, too-it gives it the look of having smoke and grime caking on there.

I tried several blending techniques but ended up settling with two brush blending.

I used started with a mix of Frostbite, and Greycoat Grey, but I found that I got almost the same effects with just Greycoat Grey. So I ended up finishing the with white with that.

I used a mix of Thamar Black and Beaten Purple for the red shadow, and I have to say, it's a nice contrast.

I tried making a wash for the metal but didn't get the medium and water mix right. It worked ok but not as smooth as I wanted. Thankfully it was a thin coat.

I was going to leave the metal, but I think I'll give some Quicksilver highlights like you suggest!

Those racing stripes really pop! Great scheme and great work. Those last highlights and details are going to leave you with one sweet model!

It's a very clean paintjob. Very good for a first try. Just keep up the precision in making sure the paint is exactly where you want it and you should be an excellent painter in no time.

White and red are hard colors to pain imo, and you did some fantastic work for your first time. Keep it up!

I can't stop thinking of the Japanese rising sun flag when I see these. The red and white lines are really eye catching.

    Frankly the models look fantastic.

The crispness of your lines really makes this work. Going full rising sun on a jack would be cool. I would love to try it but sadly I doubt I could do half as well as you have. They look great!

That is just sweet. Love the look of it, dont know why exactly, but it just is a paint scheme I could be very happy to copy.

I almost went with a graphic rising sun look. This was my first experience with miniature painting so I decided to simplify the concept a bit, so I went with racing stripes.

With practice, I would love to attempt a high contrast black and white with a bold accent color scheme. Much like a Sin City look. I don't know how it would look on a miniature but would still be a fun project.

    Really nice work.

Makes me feel a bit behind the curve, as I am also a new player/painter and appear to lack your inherent abilities

First miniatures ever? Holy hell, I wish my first minis looked like that. Do you have some previous non-mini painting experience, because damn I would be impressed if you didn't. Great work, really interesting scheme. I like how the red still really connects them to Khador.

    For first time?

I've seen plenty of first attempts at painting over the years, and your early posts are what I'd expect from a beginner.

What I didn't expect was such a massive improvement in such a short amount of time. Kudos to you, sir! Your lines are clean and crisp and your shading is excellent, especially on such a difficult colour as white. I also love the extra touch on your bases.

I look forward to seeing more!
