Default A quick Introduction, from a GW Convert

    Hi guys,

My name is Paul, I am a major nerd both in Work and Play. I am a network engineer by trade, building and designing large scale networks and I've done work doing everything from design and sales all the way up to troubleshooting and implementation.

I have been a 40K player for a couple of years, I own (4) Armies at the moment. My Little Brother is 12 and was wanting to get into Miniatures War Gaming, I was going to buy him the Orks he wanted, but I've finally had my fill of GW and their crap. I am in the process of slowly selling off bits and pieces of my collection, but I still want to get him into Miniatures.

Hence, my joining this community. We've settled on two different factions. He wants to play Legion of Everblight, and I myself am going for Circle Orboros. I am slightly disappointed to see all the Plastic coming out, as I've got a major soft spot for Metal Models, but I guess I will have to deal.

I have only bought one box of Models, which was Metal Warpwolves, as I really love the design. Other than this, I haven't purchased anything. I am seriously considering buying:

Legion of Everblight: Warpack BOX - Limited
Circle Orboros: Warpack BOX - Limited

Then of course the main rulebook and both army books.

Is there anything else that we need to really get started? I know that the Starter Set is coming, but I don't want plastic if I can help it...

Where would you go from here? I know that the Circle Forum has a great list of things you should be looking at buying, but I don't see that for Everblight. Do we just stick to what looks cool?

    Let me know,

    Paul

Hey Paul, welcome to the brighter side of miniature wargaming!

I did find a thread on LoE on beginner purchases here: http://privateerpressforums.com/show...l=1#post552439

I really suggest building toward a 25 (if you're still on the fence about your army) or 35 point list (if you know you're sticking with your faction and WarmaHordes) with a few warlocks to choose between. 15 point games are good for introducing yourselves to the game, but I don't think you get the true experience until you're fielding a decent sized army.

I don't know much about either army, so hopefully someone here or on the faction forums can get you going in the right direction there. If you guys are just playing for fun, there's nothing wrong with just buying what looks cool. I'd suggest reading some basic strategy articles, or taking a look at how others build their armies so you can get an idea of how to balance warbeasts and units, but really it's up to you to play and discover what you like. One thing many people do is buy the faction deck and just proxy models that interest you.

Best of luck to you both!

    Hi Paul

I was the same I had been collecting GW for nearly 8 years and a few months back I got fed up with them when they moved to all metal models to resin and then the price increase. I play Khador, Cygnar and Menoth, and suggest finding a gaming club and playing a couple of games against hordes and warmachine players. Also if you don't like your army just change the warlock it can make a huge difference to your army.

Good luck to you and your bro and hope you enjoy the game as much as I am

    Welcome to the forums!

It's nice to see people with desire for metal minnies. The weight of plastics seems somehow ... off.
You really feel like a beast/jack has the power to obliterate stuff when its made out of metal (weight of carry cases not withstanding).

Since you're interested in Circle and Legion, you might want to look at the 2 Player Hordes Battlebox when it comes out in a few months. The down side is that it's all plastic (), but on the other hand you get two ~21 pt armies and a mini rulebook (contains all the rules of the full rulebook, it's only missing the fluff) for a substantial saving.
