Bart with Mariners/Mules is always fun. I would try out maybe running a MacBain list with the Cutthroats, A&H, a Mangler, a Mule x2, pEiryss. That's 35 points and has quite a bit of potential, but could need some more solos instead of the second mule. I personally would try to purchase some Steelhead Halberdiers and some Heavy Cav also. Nomads are always going to fit into plenty of lists too!

This is just with some minimum knowledge and a lack of sleep. Magnus and some other awesome people will be by shortly to give you some amazing ideas!

Well lets see. Approaching your theoretical list logically, there is a lot of ways you can go, but I will try and give you some ideas to create competetive options with the least amount of cash expense.

The biggest obstacle to this is Croe's Cutthroats. Personally I really like the unit, but they suffer from one big problem, which is lack of accuracy. They do sweet amounts of damage, but at RAT 5 they can't hit the broadside of a barn. They are also your only unit of infantry that you own, so just leaving them out of your lists completely would be costly because you would need to probably purchase even MORE infantry to make up for the loss.

So with this in mind, any of your starting lists should include Croe's. To complement them, you should take warcasters that can increase their poor accuracy. This means you will probably be leaving out Fiona and Bart, as they do nothing for them whatsoever. Sorry. Other options are...

    Epic Magnus -
Can use Calamity to increase their accuracy and hitting power. Downside is that Calamity has to be cast on the ENEMY himself and not the Cutthroats. This means you will need between 1 and 2 Renegades to arc that spell, and those (while badass) kind of drive the cost up for Magnus. Also you will be using about 3-4 focus to cast that spell, so really he's not doing much else that round. I dont rreally recommend him for you right now.

    Drake MacBain -
Can give them Fortune to help out their hitting. Fortune works for both melee and shooting attacks so that is handy. Plus you already own the guy.

    Captain Damiano -
His spell Deadeye turns the Cutthroats into absolute MURDERERS!!! You dont own him yet, but hes pretty cheap so no worries there really. Also he works well with the other stuff you own.

Finally you will most likely want at least one other unit of infantry. Popular choices to go with your other collection would be Kayazy Assassins, Boomhowler, or Steelhead Halbardiers

You forgot to mention Snipe. With a 14" range, they will more often be able to aim.

Oh yes - that's with regular Magnus. Even with snipe on them, I haven't really found that to make them super accurate. Plus when you aim, you give up Bushwhack, which is somewhat saddening.

Also Don't forget Gorman. Gorman can black oil things to hit giving way for Calamity to be on something else.
Why is all the pirate gone?
    Need Moar Pirates...

you want your list to be competitive,

my feeling lately is that, with the advent of colossals, the meta of the game will have to shift against higher output damage potential. with this in mind, you can select caster and units to do the job well. Damiano is really your best choice to make chroe shine (and pretty much any shooting unit) and give a much need STR boost during feat turn. alyanna and holt can help you handle high armor, but gorman is also a must, as well as eEyriss for controlling those pesky upkeeps...

sadly, my favourite caster of all times, Ashlynn, will probably be relegated to second choice, since her feat is amazing to hit, but she is not jack friendly and cannot really handle a colossal (IMO).

eMagnus has very good potential, not to mention a gorgeous feat

if you are willing to take the risk of getting a model with low SPD (well, a low SPD army really) go dwarvish! Gorten is a great caster for control and even for damaging high armor/HP targets

and I would think about buying a Galleon
