Default how to design your steamroller lists

Now I have played in a couple of these events and asked tons of advice on how to design the two lists. I want my fellow trolls advice now. What factors do you put into your list construction? Is it one list for heavy armor and one for defense? Is it one for troops the other for jacks/beasts? Is it one for assassination one for scenario? Like always any advice and help will be greatly appreciated and maybe this will help other troll players.

I would have to ask how do you play? Then you can play off of what you are good at.

I ask my self these questions and make sure between two lists I have the means of getting it done.

    1. Can I go where I need to go? Something with high speed or at least a terrain mitigation.
    2. Can I prevent the opponent from going there? Ability to Jam the enemy or disrupt their play a little
    3. Can I remove the enemy if they got where they wanted to go? Heavy hitting and accurate hitting (we are pretty good in this department)

I normally play alpha striking or i use fens to jam up my opponent but maybe I should change up my lists. Maybe I should be taking a list to handle mass infantry thats out there

    Trollblood Scrum ftw.

There may be more recent material of interest too, but I thought this was worth sharing.

Was going to reference this last night but didn't want to dig it out of the blog. So thanks for saving me the trouble.

As it stands I follow this example and I also run the lists through my wringer of good players as well before it hits the table.

One thing I watch out for, is how 'sturdy' my casters are. It may be my recent experience in my meta, so take this as the typical subjective view. I always see to it that I field at least one caster (or army, i.e. KSB+E, Janissa etc.) that can survive Ravyn or Legionesque-eyeless sight shenanigans (might also appeal to some Cryx lists).

First I think about which caster I really want to take. Then I go for whichever one compliments or could compliment that one. The lists will eventually come after some decent balancing and personal preference. It's nothing that can really be explained easily. I'd check out the Scrum link about for detailed information. A good complimentry pair is Grim and EMaddy. Grim is great against High DEF melee armies and is great at control. EMaddy is good all around and effective against HIGH ARM. The only issue that both naturally have is against assassination for Grim, or gunlines for both. Then you kind of build your list with that in mind. Fast moving infantry, and especially cavalry, can make mince meat of gun lines. Most gun lines also typically have low-med armor. So maybe some long range AOEs (Bomber with Grim). It takes some getting used to and playtesting.

My biggest peace of advice: No matter what though, make sure you have a balance between ranged and melee. Do not, ever, go all melee. Many top tier lists can easily destroy an all melee list (EHaley, either Denny, Searyn, Harby, to name a few).
    Current Faction(s): Trollbloods/Minions/Mercs/Legion/Retribution:
Restripped, now with more ! 277/350 points completed. Last: Scattergunners (With UA) Next: EGrim
Restripped, and all green! 30/60 points completed. Last: Boomhowlers Next: Bone Grinders

How to build a balanced list:

    1. Can you deal with ARM20+, at least 35 damage of boxes to it in a turn?
    2. Can you deal with ARM22+, at least 60 damage in a turn? (ARM19, if you can Purification, or get rid of upkeeps reliably) (NOT THRULLG). This only matters once Colossals come out.
    3. Can you deal with DEF17-19 Infantry
    4. Are you running so many infantry that you lose to a list that has a lot of AOEs or sprays?
    5. Do you have enough infantry that you can shield your beasts from particular units that can put a hurting on them?
    6. Do you have enough shooting to remove key problematic models?
    7. Do you have enough shooting to remove problematic enemy units?
    8. What's the threat range on your list like? Are you going to get hit first everytime?
    9. Do you have some ways to get rid of models that require magic attacks or magic weapons to get rid of them?
    10. Do straight up lose to a particular type of denial? Common denial includes, "No moving for a turn" (hoses melee), "No shooting me with non-magic weapons" (hoses shooting), "No casting spells" (Hoses magic units and spellcasters).

So try to figure out what the answers to these questions are for your list and you can begin to see what might be a really good list, or a list that struggles. Balanced lists and good lists generally fare better on these more of these questions than lists that you don't want to play :P

Thanks guys this helping out a lot. I have a steamroller coming up in a month and want to make people fear trolls. I planned on running an EDoomy list and a borka list with max fens and dygmies.
