    Default Legion at the ETC 2012 in Mansfield, UK

    Soooo, who will be attending the European Hordes & Warmachine Team Challenge next week and bringing Legion to kick some serious ***?

    This year will be the third year of the ETC (hosted at Maelstrom Games HQ); a 4-player team event, only a single fully painted 50pts list allowed and with characters restrictions for all 4 players. 6 rounds will be played starting Friday evening till Sunday in the afternoon.

    I am taking eVayl since I think she is a very flexible caster that can handle most situations in single caster events.

    Just have to paint up my BFS and ready to go.

    I'm going. Originally I planned on taken eLylyth, but I ended up going with my Khador instead. I'm just a better player with the Old Witch than I am with my Legion.

    Im so disappointed in you, especially since your team already has a khador player

    I'm going but with Circle - pKrueger, would have been eVayl if I'd had enough practice to even feel average with her.

    Fairly new to Legion and would let myself down even more than taking Circle does.

    I suggested that I could play legion, but my team thought I was better with Menoth, so Menoth it is.

    Character restrictions apply to all lists in your team, so no double mercs or if you play the same faction as one or more of your team mates, you have to decide who takes what.

    @Tarn: I have a cheap digital cooking timer which works fine! Recently though, I bought a digitial chess clock, because the deathclock format is getting more popular in my area and it works better than 2 separate timers in my opinion.

    Im signed up as a merc but only from yesterday. All the tickets were sold out before I really got into warmahordes and couldnt get it off work till recently.

    Felt rude not too try since Im only walking (stumbling) distance away from Maelstrom these days. Hopefully can take eLylyth as Ive been playing her lots lately.

    I've just stepped up to fill in for a dropout in a friend's team. Didn't think I'd have time to play, but so glad that I'm going now as there are 16 people from my club going. Hopefully see some of you next Friday. Not sure what I'm taking yet (literally only just decided I'm going), but as it has to be painted will probably end up being pVayl, unless I can get the eVayl stuff painted in time.

    Well, I went 3-3 in the end with pVayl. Sunday was a write-off, but had a fantastic time. How did everyone else do? Probably met some of you at some point.

    Didn't get a chance to catch up and talk games before everyone disappeared for the weekend, how did you fare with Abby in the rest of your games?

    I'm shamelessly stealing the 4 heavies / 4 forsaken build for my own Abby list, it was loads of fun to play against (I played against you with Kromac in the 1st round)

    My weekend went kind on wonky with me filling in from game 3 as a merc but the team I joined were doing really well so I was well away from the shallow end that I normally play in at tournaments. Went 2-2 with eLylyth. I dont have my book with me now so I cant remember the scenarios.

    Lost against pSevvy via assassination (radial, zone in the middle, 4 objectives. Had a sniff of an assassination but accidentally reformed a strider into melee with the avatar, and failed a command check. Which messed up my positioning to push the book with my bolt thrower out of the way for a feated ravagore to take a couple of shot on pSevvy without vision up. Half an hour later I remembered the bolt throwers animus and felt gutted. Got ground down then forced him to kill Elylyth in the zone and stopping him from getting control points.

    Won against eSchosha (3-0 on scenario, incursion). eLylyth took out 5 iron fleshed kayazy on feat turn, striders butchered the deathstar, Scorsha got set on fire but the great bears took 3 ravagore shots and 2 carni sprays to kill 1 of them and both passed fire tough rolls on his turn. In the end I just tanked the middle objective with 3 heavies and sat a bolt thrower and shepherd on the one he couldnt get near covered by eLylyth.

    Won against Saeryn, 4-0 on scenario (4 flags, flank deployment, reinforcements). Feated early, took out a beast, and made a big mess of most things. Raptors and Annyssa came on as reinforcements, cleared out his flags and light cav moved into base with them. Scored 2 twice in a row.

    Lost against Damiano via assassination. Similar game to my first but with 40+ infantry/cav on the board I just couldnt get through them all and he was making tough rolls like nobodies business. Just got ground down then made some silly targeting errors which could have then made things harder for my opponent. Lots of pressure on this game towards the end as I was the last person playing on the top table, big crowd, 2 refs against an extremely good opponent. In the end I went for a hail mary, flying eLylyth over most of his army then missing on my initial shot which I needed the swift hunter move to get at his caster who i needed crazy good rolls to kill anyway.

    I still had loads of fun and it was very interesting to see how people from different countries play.

    Oh yea. I met this guy in the bar at our hotel on Saturday night and laughed when he said he was taking names with Kallus. Now I feel a bit silly that he did much much better than me! Good effort.

    Great wkend.
    I was said Kallus player. Great fun great games and laughs at the bar.

    Ill do up a report later and post my list if anyone is interested.
    Highly recommended wkend of games with very competitive enjoyable spirit that most PP events bring.
    Played
    pVlad - Won
    Damiano - Won (such a close game we were both sweating!)
    Saverous - Won (last 15? Turns I had Benny hill in my head as I had killed all but Scavvy and 2 croes cut throats and I had just Kallus.) I was winning on CPs with Scavvy having no way of scoring so I ran and clocked him.
    eKruger - lost major f up and forgot to feat and lost 31 models. Got Kallus killed to stop him scoring CPs
    Sloan - won
    Ossyn - won.

    Yeahhhhh buddy. I was so happy you did that.

    I ended up going with the team gimmick of a Stormwall each with Nemo3. I had a good time but a terrible performance - he oddly can play like eLyl. The things I could've done with eVayl. Great to have met you too Deacis, remember to put those details of that tournament in Rotterdam in TWF please.

    It was a great weekend again! Too bad I missed the Kallus list, it sounds awesome. Also interested in a write-up!

    I went 5-1 with eVayl, I'll do a small write-up myself later today. As team, we went 3-3 and ended up somewhere in the middle.

    I went 5-1 with Saeryn, which I was not expecting and was extremely pleased with. Lost to Grim Angus, beat Nemo3, Damiano, Carver, Harbinger and eKreuger. WIP battle report here if anyone's interested.

    Ryan, mate, is that you? Our game was a great starter, even though I lost in the end. The maneuverability and firepower of a Kromac list can be staggering... And yay for Woldshrimps, ey?

    Being a regular tournament player in The Netherlands, but a not-too-good one with a healthy dose of Faction ADD, I have found it quite challenging at the ETC with Legion (I'm quite new to this 'stay with a single faction for more then half a year'-business). I feel everybody who I was up against brought their A game, and the few wins I did manage to land completely - some losses could have easily gone the other way, had I been paying more attention and/or not made certain daft mistakes - were very gratifying.

    - Game 1 (Friday) against Kromac: loss on scenario (highlights: Angelius rolling boxcars for my first damage roll at the ETC, Blackclad Wayfarer missing Angelius, Shredder and a Forsaken with a single spray);
    - Game 2 (Saturday) against Krueger1: win on casterkill (highlights: Typhon gets a tornado to his faces so Ghetorix can charge Absylonia, but Typhon ultimately kills Ghetorix so Abby can fly in and kill Krueger);
    - Game 3 (Saturday) against Nemo3: loss on casterkill (highlights: unit of Storm Lances flees after a second Abomination check, forgot to suck off fury with a Forsaken and doomed Abby to electrified death);
    - Game 4 (Saturday) against Goreshade1: win on scenario (highlights: team mate creating the 'Mansfield Marshlands' by spilling 3/4th of a pint of Mansfield Cream Ale over the right flank, Typhon spraying to its athanc's desire when surrounded by Mechs and Biles);
    - Game 5 (Sunday) against Haley2: loss on casterkill (highlights: Typhon charging out of CTRL and scrapping the bonded Stormclad without any fury necessary, Abby remaining on two hp after a Storm Strider barrage, only to get shocked down by a Stormsmith);
    - Game 6 (Sunday) against Scaverous: loss on casterkill (highlights: Gorman free striking a Blinded Angelius and doing triple boxcars on damage, Forsaken blowing up six Bane Thralls).

    My list:

    System: Hordes
    Faction: Absylonia - Winds of Change
    Casters: 1/1
    Points: 50/50
    Tiers: 4

    Absylonia, Terror of Everblight (*5pts)
    * Shredder (2pts)
    * Shredder (2pts)
    * Shredder (2pts)
    * Shredder (2pts)
    * Angelius (8pts)
    * Carnivean (10pts)
    * Proteus (10pts)
    * Typhon (11pts)
    The Forsaken (2pts)
    The Forsaken (2pts)
    The Forsaken (2pts)
    The Forsaken (2pts)

    * Shredder (2pts) (reinforcements)
    * Seraph (7pts) (reinforcements)
    Shepard (1pts) (reinforcements)

    Had a total blast with all the guys at the Eye of the Storm. Thanks, Maelstrom, and until next year!

    I played the following list:

    Tier 4: Machinations of Shadow
    Vayl, Consul of Everblight +6 points
    * 2x Angelius 8 points each
    * Ravagore 9 points
    * Scythean 8 points
    * Seraph 7 points

    Blackfrost Shard 5 points
    10 Blighted Legionnaires 6 points
    2x Shepherd 1 point each
    7 Spawning Vessel 3 points

    Reinforcements:
    Carnivean 10 points

    Game 1 vs eAsphyxious (Outflank, Outfight, Outlast): Win / scenario

    I was able to get the first scenario point in the right zone, with most of his army in the other zone. I scored my second point in his turn, when he purged a excarnated bile thrall in the zone, instead of leaving it there and failed killing my heavies with his feat in the end.

    Game 2 vs Old Witch (Demolition): Win / casterkill

    Turn 2 casterkill. He ran/moved his entire army up field trying to stop me from getting into the zones. Old Witch popped her feat, put IF up and only 1 Uhlan blocking LoS from the rest of my army. After purification, I could unload my entire army on her.

    Game 3 vs Damiano (Command and Control): Win / scenario (tiebreaker, more AP in zone)

    Best game I played all weekend! Total grind till the last minute. We were picking each others armies apart from a distance while tip toeing the zone the whole time. A few minutes before dice down was called, I had just moved my heavies back into the zone after being pushed out by gun mages and mules, and won with more AP in the zone.

    Game 4 vs pCaine (Incursion): Win / scenario

    He had a bizar list. Stormwall, flanked by 2 units of long gunners, gun mages and some other stuff. Lucky for me the flag disappeared on my left side where my legios fodder as, with my 2 angelius flying over to the other side. Was able to kill the stormwall in 2 turns with a combination of purification, harm, obliterations, ravagore shots and in the end the ravagore itself, finishing it in melee.

    Game 5 vs Scaverous (A Flag Too Far): Loss / deathclocked myself

    How I hate this caster and how I hate this scenario. After some really bad rolls in the second turn (e.g. an angelius not being able to hit anything and thus not triggering refuge) and forgetting about the WS combine being able to unbind my admonition, I was fast being swarmed/shot by satyxis, cutthroats and nyss hunters. I was never able to get the upper hand in this game.

    Game 6 vs Grim (Close Quarters): Win / casterkill

    I killed most of his long riders in the second round which enabled me to control the game. Some turns later I forced Grim to use his fury by arcing icy grip and obliterations on him from the bomber behind him (thus ignoring the wall which janissa played in front of him). My Angelius and a popped harrier finished the job after that.

    MVP of the weekend: Spawning Vessel unit, hands down. Contesting flags/zones and assisting in important kills + harassing units by popping shredders/harriers. Absolutely great for only 3 points, I'm a true believer now.

    Had a great weekend, many thanks to all my opponents and participating players! On to the next on

    Yup, tis me mate

    Our game was the only game I won >.< Woldshrimps were on fire all weekend gunning down most everything, think my list was a bit too generalist to do well (that's my excuse in any case, nothing to do with the fact I played like a chimp all weekend... )

    Did get plenty of inspiration over the weekend for my own Legion though!!

    Good to hear from you mate. I was the only one to beat you. I put you down as an "okayish" matchup before the game and pairings as I didn't know what Kallus does and my eKrueger is good against infantry. Once I actually read through your army list with some time and counted how many F ing models you have i was a little terrified. Also it appears I can't kill any of them or they become more fearsome incubi. Also everyone gets boosted melee attacks?? So after having us both run on the first turn I was really surprised your feat wasn't up and took my opportunity and managed to kill half of your army (~30 models) with some godlike dice rolling. You had a bit of a disheartening moment there but you took it really well and went on to play the game like a gentleman. That went on to get you our vote for best sportmanship (which your team was very close to winning if i recall correctly).

    The army was a very nice "think outside of the box" -army and with legions "easy win" buttons around my hat goes off to you for playing it and doing so extremely well with it. It surely would've been a different game if you would have feated on your first. The Kallus suicide run makes sense from the "CP weighting weird tournament rules" -set of mind.

    You are a nice bloke and a good sport. Glad to have played you!

    Looking at the individual scores, we came 13th, 22nd and 25th out of top 50. Warmachine factions certainly out scored Hordes at the ETC this year.

    The individual rankings are really not very accurate, because you play against the level based on the standing of your whole team and not on your individual level. E.g. if you are the best player of your team, but you were the only one winning games, you could come out on the first place in the individual ranking, while your team has no wins at all.

    Played eVayl for Team Lutefisk.

    eVayl: Tier list 4
    2x Angelius
    1x Seraph
    1x Ravagore
    1x Shredder

    Full unit of Hex Hunters + Bayal UA
    2x Sheperds
    1x Nyss Sorceress & Helion
    3x Spell Martyrs
    min Unit of Spell martyrs

    This list worked pretty well for me, it was a bit of a struggle to get it rolling in the start since i never had much time to train with the list, got 3 wins and 3 lost games.

    Grotznif put his full list with some comments up in the Legion Lists subforum (http://privateerpressforums.com/show...eld-July-2012) worth a look.
