    Default The Kraken

This is a great model! It was easy to assemble and loads of fun to paint. It took a little over 5 hours to paint. Hope you enjoy!

    You've unleashed the Kraken...

Looks good - now, how do we cook this particular example of calamari?

Am I the only one having trouble focusing on the model my eye is drawn to the puppet master in the background. Where did you get it?

Also the model looks great too.

No, I've spent equal time looking at the Kraken and the puppet master.

I'd be very interested to hear your painting method, Khamos. It looks crisp, cohesive, and cool. I was just about to buy some new paints, and khaki/toxic green was featuring heavily.

Great scheme for a good table top paint job! I'm not a fan of dipping at all, but at least you're good at it .

I primed it white and drybrushed all of the parts silver. The browns are layers and layers of Sepia washes and a mixture of reikland flesh wash and red wash. After everything was layered I went back in and drybrushed all of the highlights. The Robot in the background is my own work and if you would like to see more go to automatedhumanity.com

Thanks for all of the replies.

I wish the base had more OOMPH, but the Kraken itself looks solid

This guy looks fantastic, and I love the colors. Great job on the drybrushing, I would have never guessed considering how smooth it all looks.

You have a great site by the way, awesome stuff.

Yeah, it's really fantastic. Smart color choices. I think the only thing thats whooping your butt is the lack of basing. Some dark/blue/greyish rocks or debris could really make the model pop (even more). Keep it up!!

Clearly that brass puppetmaster did it all for him with its army of puppets.

Cool work though, smooth, clean, simple, and looks good.

Absoultely great work on the Kraken!
And the robots on your website instantly reminded me of the game "Machinarium". Which is very cool!

Kracken looks good in a red shirt.

    Robots = cool

You should make an entire battlegroup using your Belecose sculpure as a base. That would be sweet

There is NO WAY that is a dip and spray--that's some insane blending!

The influence of Warmachine definately shows in my sculpture Bellicose. I plan on creating a smaller versions of him down the road.

Nice looking Kraken there, looking at yours and the one Steamforged is painting on their blog makes me wonder: what would it look like if the tentacles protruded from the sides (where the turbines are glued onto) instead of the front plate?

Nice. That's some great shading on a model that large.

    Can we get some close-ups?

I'd love to get a better look at that effect.

    Awesome job on the kraken,

And your site is amazing, I particularly liked bellicose, that could be an amazing warjack proxy!

Love the colours mate, the brown and bone look great. Very cool and different.

Base needs more attention. This is not finished right?

I am going to add a few patches of dead grass, but that is it. I never do anything more than add grass to the bases of my models. I don't like the idea of my figure moving around the table and terrain moving with it. Plain ol' boring grass bases do it for me. LOL!

That looks spectacular! I like that color scheme a lot. I still say the kraken is the coolest designed/looking colossal of the bunch. Out of curiosity, have you done a wraith engine in this scheme as well?

I have painted the Wraith Engine using similar techniques. I was painting today and knocked a bottle of devlin mudd off my table and my newly painted Kraken took a bath. It trashed the highlights on the carapace. I cleaned it up, but it is streaky and dark now. Worst painting blunder ever. DoH!

Oh no! So sorry to hear that. I had a vallejo drip bottle of red paint that wouldn't drip so I squeezed it to make it work and it exploded all over my painting desk and the entire 20 figs I had just completed and was putting some finishing touches on. It looked like a massacre.

    These things are so frustrating.

Not even paint the sand? Fair enough but I always find models don't look finished when the sand is left unpainted. To each their own.

Also, took a quick look at your website (going to take a better look when I have more time!), and well, awesome stuff!
