Default Kromac 25 Point (Need advice for first list ever)

    Hey guys,

I've been browsing these forums over the past 2 days, much to the joy of my boss I'm sure, and "came up" with a list based on what I saw around here.

My initial plan was to for an eKaya list, but since my main opponent (at least for the first little bit, as we learn the game) will be a Legions player, I've decided that Kromac would be a better choice.

I've come up with 19 points so far quite easily, but I'm having some trouble filling out the last 6.

    Kromac (-4)
    - Warpwolf Stalker (10)
    - Feral Warpwolf (9) (maybe Pureblood, but I'm leaning towards Feral right now)
    - Gorax (4)

And here's where I'm a little stuck. I have 6 points left, but I'm not sure how to spend them

    Option A:
    Wilder (2)
Shifting Stones + Stone Keeper (3)
    Gallows Grove (1)

    Option B:
    Wilder (2)
    Shifting Stones (2)
    Blackclad Wayfarer (2)

Alternatively, I can drop the Feral, and maybe get two units of Woldstalkers and go with my first scenario above, except with no Grove, but then I feel a little light on beasts.

    Hi

Kromac works in a lot of ways. I love playing him but I am no expert.

I would probably not bother with the wilder at 25 pts and groves don't add a lot because he tends to be up field.

You could go for a gnarlthorn instead of the feral. The ram is a good utility beast and has a better animus but does not have quite the punch of the feral.

That pulls back a point giving you 7 to spend. Then:

    Option 1
    stones
    bloodtrackers

    Option 2
    Bloodtrackers + UA.

What about Lord of the Feast? Him and either the Wilder or Shifting Stones could fill out my last 6 points nicely.

I haven't really thought about including a Satyr of some sort yet, but I'll definitely consider it.

Also, what makes the Bloodtrackers good? I'm still trying to get a grasp on the rules and units, and am more familiar with the Beasts, not so much the infantry.

I just wanted to say i compketely disagree with this point. Groves are insane with kromac. It means u dont have to worry about range when casting most spells or animi. Wanna put primal on a beast thats out of range. Bam gallows grove. Rift becomes an assassination threat with his feat. Its not amzing but its good if u cant get in melee. If ur up against any caster with tough theyre great too. For 1 point theres rarely a reason to not take atleast 1.

Swap the Feral (Stalker is good enough at 25pts) for a Gnarlhorn and use the extra point to buy Druids. The thing is that you don't really need Stones or Fury Management in low point games. The Gnarlhorn gives you even more movement tricks to combine with Kromac's innate ones. Counter-charge is also more likely to be useful as there will be fewer models to shut it down if you position correctly. The Druids w/Vortex can provide the Stalker with what he needs for Stealth, give you push/pull, and even more crushing anti-magic for if/when you don't want to use Beastial. The Gorax already gives you the ability to juice the MAT and hitting power of your Heavies.

Interesting Razious. I have never tried a grove with Kromac.

    Ignus:

Bloodtrackers are one of the go to units for Circle. The are fragile but have stealth so cannot be targeted at greater than 5". They are a solid skirmishing unit capable of handing on hurt. With the UA they can run in shoot and withdraw 3" afterwards.

Lord of the Feast is a great solo. He tends to be a fire and forget missile. jumps into the middle of the enemy kills a load of stuff then dies.
Wilder is situational. I am not sure she would add 2 points worth of value in your army.
Stones are a go to unit also. I have seen many posts here that say in one way or other Circle is about learning to use the shifting stones.

So yes stones and LotF is certainly an option. So taking Raz's comments into account you may want to try:

    LotF
    shifting stones
    grove.

Will the Druids still be worth it considering I'm up against Legion, who will basically negate the Stealth?

They negate Stealth only with those things with Eyeless Site (which is a lot) but you never know. The key thing against Legion is the ability to Push/Pull and Counter-Magic. In low point games, I never regret taking Druids. Hell, if you are fighting Legion I wish I could find you a way to get the Overseer so you have Elemental Immunity. That is not, however, in the cards at 25pts. It would cost you too much. Some argue Kromac with Druids is overkill because Kromac has such effective anti-magic. It is true that he has excellent anti-magic. It is also true that I don't always like having to cast Beastial. Druids give you massive board control in low point games because nobody wants to get dragged to certain death. Legion which LOVES to just charge straight forward is given a moment of pause. They cannot judge effective distances. The simple fact is those other things you want to get for 6pts aren't worth it. You just won't get a return. If you want another Beast you could take the Shadowhorn instead of Druids.

Well, I ended up placing an order online after me and my friend tried out a Battlebox game through Vassal.

I went ahead with the Gnarlhorn and Druid suggestion, so it ended up looking like this:

    Kromac (-4)
    - Gorax (4)
    - Gnarlhorn (8)
    - Warpwolf Stalker (10)
    Druids (7)

At 35 I'll try to include Shifting Stones, probably with a Stone Keeper, and maybe and Overseer for the Druids. I'll see how I like the Gnarlhorn in action, to see if I want to keep him or switch to a Feral Warpwolf. But I'll tackle that when I actually get around to upgrading.
