Default New to Khador - Strakhov 35pts

Managed to get a hold of some nice Khador minis and I decided to try Strakhov.

    Strakhov +6
    Destroyer -9
    Juggernaught -7
    War Dog -1

    Gorman -2
    Great Bears -5
    5 MOW Shocktroopers - 9
    Widowmaker Marksman -2
    Widowmakers - 4

Which leaves me 2 pts left over, if I am playing v Hordes Ill put in Saxon Orrik. or v Warmachine Koldun.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What do you have/what are you willing to get?

It is a solid list but the Shocktroopers stand out as not fitting. They aren't fast enough to keep up but more importantly they dont hit hard enough when they get there.

Otherwise it is a very solid list. Something like doom reavers would add more hitting power. If you could upgrade the juggy to either Beast or Spriggan that'll obviously be better (note: a bulldoze jack is sick w/ Strakhov). Ivan over destroyer gives you a little more versatility but is hardly mandatory. I personally run Strakhov with 1 Jack only (Spriggan). Strakhov can be slightly more versatile than his reputation indicates. However, is quite one dimensional.

I wouldn't really bother getting saxon vs hordes. He really isn't necessary for Strakhov. You'd be better off with the Koldun even vs hordes because 6 FOCUS w/ 2-3 upkeeps really makes running two jacks tricky. Having an extra focus to boost a bombard shot for example is pretty nice!

    Welcome to The Motherland, Thyrshol!

If these are the Khador minis you have then obviously, play it up and have fun! Personally, though, I'd swap out the MOW Shocks for MOW Demo corps; they work a bit better with Strak's feat and are "faster" than MOW ST's. You might also consider a Spriggan and Kodiak as more Strak friendly 'jacks than jugger and destroyer (both of which I love though).

Otherwise, Great Bears are excellent! Ditto for Gorman, the wardog and the Makers of Widows.

Alternatively...get a pButcher and swap him for Strak, because that way the list is great.

Hope this helps! Best of luck!
What the hell do I know? I suck at this game.

Goinging to jump on the same boat as the other two and tell you the MoW are too slow for your list. I'm going to recommend Assassins or Iron Fang Pikemen both with UA to fill in the gap. You can us the extra pt remaining to boost your jacks or to "upgrade" one of your solos.

For you jacks, Juggurnaut and Destroyer are a good low pt pair to run with Superiotiry on the Jug and Sentry for the Destroyer. You may think about swaping in a Devastator or if you build it the Demolisher both of which have bowling ball effects on your opponents army at the same value as the Destroyer. Kodiak for the Juggurnaut would be another possible swap spending one pt more, the Kodiak's heavy boiler would allow you to boost shots and his chain attack is a solid use of superiority as well.

I've never found the Koldun Lord to be a must have to Strakov, I usually have enough focus to get my jacks into position and you can't give focus and power boost, and my second jack is usually more of a support jack rather than the lead act so focus distribution isn't a reoccuring problem. If you really need the focus, Sylys Wyshnalyrr in place of the dog to support your upkeeps to solve you problem.

Same applies to Saxon, not a must have to fight hordes. A Khador Axe is just as effective for damage and can be used against their non-beast units just as effectily and you can get pathfinder is given on the feat when you are usually going to need it, the biggest thing that you are going to need is hunter, which he can't grant to the rest of your army. Many of our heros and solos are capacble to filling the anti beast role, with weapons that can be used against jacks as well.
