Default good experience with a kraken

so my second time taking out the kraken I tried something a little different and it worked quite well. I first tried to run it as a close combat jack with guns. Not a good choice. In my second game I swithced the role. Here is the 50 pts I took against fairly standard sorcha list(beast, kayazy, ifp, etc)

    Egorshade
    kraken
    combine
    full bane thrall/ua
    min satyxis raiders/us
    2 necrotechs,
    2 helldivers
    3 scraps(plus 2 bonus)
    bloat thrall

the trick is to put phantom hunter on the kraken, set the banes in front of the kraken with a sudden death bane in the front. The necrotechs sit behind the kraken, the combine hands the kraken puppet master each turn. satyx blizt forward to cause trouble, stall the enemy. helldivers either move at the enemy, or if your fighting a electroleap army they hug the front of the kraken to protect the necrotechs from zaps. With 3 focus, rerolls and PH the kraken can pick and choose what it wants to kill each turn. banes protect it from melee, The bloat helps with anti stealth. This worked real well the first time I brought it out. I want to try it against a cygnar list, but I think it can do ok there to with all the stealth and several AOE to handle the gunmages.

Sounds superb! I've always wanted to try eGoreshade with a Leviathan boasting Ghost Shot and a Kraken shooting through terrain reads even better. Is there some application for Ghost Shot with it's 4" melee by virtue of Chain Strike?

It seems that most eGoreshade lists I've seen online have Scrap Thralls running around to be swapped out during the feat round, and Necrotechs seem almost mandatory to field with the Kraken to keep the big guy ticking along.

scrap thralls are very useful with Epic Goreshade. I typically bring them to return the Bane UA to play or a Pistol Wraith, or to reposition banes after they activated

i've found the krakens low mat makes getting the free shot hard, while aiming and shooting with a 16 in range gun and boosts can really put a dent in infantry targets or to threaten a caster.

What is the reason for the Sudden Deathed Bane in the front? I've seen this mentioned a couple of times, but I don't get the point, other than putting a dent in a closing jack/beast. Is there something I'm missing?

Pretty much, the Counter Charge bane could take out a system or branch. In addition, it can end up blocking a charge lane.
It makes the opponent have to dedicate resources to taking him out on top of you being able to put him in a hard to reach place while still having a counter charge angle.

yep, the counter charge keeps your opponent from putting targets to near without fear of immediate retaliation. It also shuts down shooters trying to get close to get within stealth range.
In the game I was posting about it let me take a column off of beast and off a kodiak out of turn.

Why wouldn't they just engage the bane and shut it down?

well say they want to shoot you and need to get in stealth range. alternately you can set it up as a hard decision. put another model up in front of the bane but off to the side, if they engage that model, the bane gets to charge. the bane is out of engagement range, but threatens with counter charge if they want to get to your other model. its not full proof, but can be helpful.
