The question I have is does a model that the Siege Animantarax is in melee with get the +4 def for being in melee when I shot at it with its reaver attack ?

Yes. Weapon Platform does not grant you the ability to ignore the "firing into melee" penalty.

Also as far as i can tell the Siege Animantarax does not have Gunfighter so may not fire at targets in it's melee range.

Weapon Platform - This model can make melee and ranged attacks in the same activation. When this model makes its initial melee attacks or a power attack, it can also make its initial ranged attacks. This model can make ranged attacks even while in melee.

As I read it, the rules say "even in Melee" Meaning Engaged in melee, at a different target. But Cest la vie

You don't kill models in eStryker's army, you simply open up charge lanes.

post #2 is correct, the siege animantarax can fire into the melee it is in with the target in melee penalty, because of the weapon platform rule.

    Yarp. Rules backup:

Weapon Platform - This model can make melee and ranged attacks in the same activation. When this model makes its initial melee attacks or a power attack, it can also make its initial ranged attacks. This model can make ranged attacks even while in melee.
So while it allows both, it does not state you get to ignore the target-in-melee penalty, so you don't.
    Infernal since 30 September 2011

It reads the rulebook or it gets the hose again.
