A Tale of Warmahordes 2012: July WIP Thread

Morning all,

We're now heading into July, so it is time for our next WIP thread for this event.

This will be the discussion/update thread to keep track of peoples progress on their WIP projects during July. As with previous threads, there are a few ground rules I need to make clear:

• The completed models thread will go live on Monday 30th July, between 6am and 8am GMT, and will be open for submissions for two weeks. If you will not be able to post during that period, send me a PM with links to pictures of your finished models, and I'll post them for you.
• Please do not post pictures of your finished models within this thread, to save confusion.
• The August WIP thread will be posted on Wednesday August 1st
• Remember, the aim is to complete 5 points this month
• If you are certain you wish to use a "Get Out of Painting Free" card for July, please make a quick post in here.

I should be at the European Team Challenge at Maelstrom Games on the 7th, 8th and 9th - feel free to say hello if you're there. I'll be playing Mercs as part of "Team Ultra Bar Stewards", though I've just had two team-mates drop out at the eleventh hour.

With my first failure in June, not a failure to get 5pts, but a failure to paint all I said I would... I am moving them to July.

so july and were over half way, and i still haven't used a joker yet not bad going so far.I've painted a lot more than i thought i would and on top of that i've actually been playing some games.So july should bring a plastic titan kit (maged glad and sentry) and a gnarlthorn satyr which are both started.

Thanks - I've already fielded both of them in a 50pt pStryker list (Arcane Shield on each of them thanks to Jr and 1 round of ARM 27 on each of them thanks to Stryker's feat) against a Butcher list with a Conquest and the Behemoth. The threat of the Behemoth scared me so much that I spent most of the game shooting and keeping my distance (I actually managed to wreck the Conquest with shooting, and damage the Behemoth before knocking the Butcher down and squishing him with one of my Stormwalls). 2 colossals in one army is ridiculous

It is basically an online support group to remind you to put paint on pewter each month.

This is what I like about the Tale of Warmahordes challenge - although I really enjoy painting, unless I have some sort of external motivation like this, I tend to never get around to actually putting paint on pewter.

As you can see, there's still some work to do, but this is the bulk of my plan for July. I'll probably paint a solo to bump the monthly total above 10pts. After that, I really ought to paint Maelok for a friend - given that it's been owed since last November... oops.

Bigger pictures will follow when it's finished (and when I've covered up the mistakes made so far!).

The base is homemade, and was relatively simple to do. I took three cork tiles, cut out recesses for the steps, and then piled them up. After that, it was a simple matter of sculpting some rough paving onto the base itself with some milliput and adding sand to cover up the worst bits. If even that sounds too complicated, then trust me: If I can do it, anyone can.

On a side note, if you liked this base, you ought to love what I have in mind for my Judicator...

Ok. I gotta know. How much work has gone into that? I ask because as much as the rules rock foe the EBDT, I cannot stand the model's stock pose. It is hideous and silly. If I ever get one, I will be doing much the same as you have...

I'm in the same boat as you are.. i love the rules, hate the model. I started on it yesterday, so not much work has gone in to it. Maybe it doesn't show that good from the picture, but he has no torso (only wires connecting top and bottom)

I'm in the same boat as you are.. i love the rules, hate the model. I started on it yesterday, so not much work has gone in to it. Maybe it doesn't show that good from the picture, but he has no torso (only wires connecting top and bottom)

oof. When you get him green stuffed, I'd love to see a picture where it all went. I can only assume that large quantities of green stuff will be used... whenever I custom a Troll they always seem to consume massive quantities of it.

So, with the sole exception of lNemo, I don't think I'm buying anything until at least the end of August, possibly September...

I'm hoping to finish my 2 omni-jacks before the end of the month, but my hobby time this week and likely next week too is looking like it's going to be taken up by building a piece of terrain for a Colossals book release event, so I'm not sure if I'll get any more painting of actual miniatures done.

Update: finished this guy on Sunday (actually, I finished him on Saturday, but I didn't finish his lightning pods until Sunday morning). I'm hoping to finish my 2 omni-jacks before the end of the month, but my hobby time this week and likely next week too is looking like it's going to be taken up by building a piece of terrain for a Colossals book release event, so I'm not sure if I'll get any more painting of actual miniatures done.

I do hope it will be something suitably large, MadJack...

Well, it's going to be a sanctuary terrain piece on a 120mm base to fit the requirements of the Hour of Annihiliation scenario. It's been about 10 years since I've made any terrain (I used to make a lot for WHFB, but I've really never made any other than craters since I switched to Warmachine), but my biggest problem so far has been getting my Cygnar gun tower to fit on the 120mm base... I want it to be bigger!

Indubitably! Actually, I just finished actually building it (still needs to be painted), and I can hide one of my Stormwalls behind it so that you can't see it at all from "ground" level, so I think it definitely does qualify as being colossal!

Hmm, since I finished building it ahead of schedule, maybe I will have time to finish painting my omni-jacks this month...

I painted quite a bit in June, but missed posting to the thread due to some family crisis. I may include them with my July stuff. Once I'm done with some of these, I plan to work on an eMagnus Bad Seeds list. That also motivates me to paint up some more of my Cygnar.
