    Default A magnetized Stormwall WIP

So far, airbrushing the main color is done. I had basecoated brown the parts that will be a really brown copper but I didnt bother masking those off, so they're a bit painted over now.

For transport, I've magnetized the waist. At first, I only had the middle magnet but its hold wasn't strong enough to keep the legs from falling off if I move the model by holding the top. That won't do, so I added the magnet in that center-front strut. I messed up the angle of the top half of that, so it doesn't really help. Finally I drilled holes for the two magnets on either side of center. The magnets are basically exactly as thick as the piece that connects the top half of the model to the bottom, so I only risked the one hole while I test the model. The grip is great. Its very sturdy and I can forcefully waggle the model by its top half without the bottom piece falling off. I've left myself the option of doing that 2nd off-center magnet in case the base weight throws things off.

That seems smart. I'd prolly just do the 2nd one just in case, but I'm a worrier.

Here's stage 2. Not a great picture Ill try to get a better one later. The main remaining work is highlighting the gold and finishing the pods.

Do you have a magnet on the front section where the piston meets as well?

I do, it helps guide the rotation that I wanted. It was originally meant to help bear the weight of the bottom half if Im holding it by the top half, but in installing the upper magnet I got the angle wrong, so its pointed the wrong way and has a very weak attraction as a result. Thats when I stuck the off-center magnet in the main torso. There's just enough space for a 1/8th inch magnet in the waist on either side of that central 'column'

Did you pin the upper piston portion. I would be afraid that the magnet would pull it loose without it.

The 2 and a half magnets hold the legs and base quite tightly. I would have preferred to do what I did on the Storm Strider. The great surface area of the connecting piece between the waist and the platform allowed me to do a pair of 1/4" long magnets (still 1/8" diameter) buried halfway into the platform's connection. These plugged into 2 holes in the waist which had a smaller 1/8" long magnet buried 1/4" deep. That connection is rock solid. There just wasnt room for it on this guy.

I did a slightly better pic of him. I'm not sure if I'll do anything else to him after highlighting the coppery bits. He's nice and clean and took so long that I am hesitant to risk dirt and other weathering.

Great job, Looks Great. Dont think it needs any more damage and/or dirt...
Would be interesting to see him apart and in storage for carrying if you are doing anything special with that as well...

Some might complain about the name change to our Stormblade Infantry Captain solo being a nerf but Khadors Iron Fang solo got nerfed so bad he defected to a different faction.

    Sure:

Here's one more full pic, trying to get decent light and a better representation of the colors. Still not really working

I think I'm done now. Ive finished the base and sealed him up. I could still work on the base a bit if anyone has any thoughts on improvement.

Really like the paint job, if you took the picture against a white background with 2 lights either side of the camera you'll get a much clearer picture.
Even before that though it looks really good.
