Default Gatorman + shallow water = protection from shooting?

I read battle college and this section's guide to Barnabas and people talk how he can use his shallow lake spell to shield the army. Isnt it supposed to be just for deep water? have i missed something? I'm still not sure which warlock I'm going for right now and that seems like a deal breaker if his lake don't actually give bonus defense.

Read the spell thoroughly. It says while in it, friendly models can't be targeted by range.

The non-targetting for ranged against amphibious in a Swamp Pit has nothing to do with shallow water. It's an effect that's stated in the spell which also happen to be a shallow water terrain feature. For example, you can't use the puddles from the Blindwater contract bonus to hide your warlock from shooty.

Ahhh now that makes sense, so its basically deep water bonus with shallow water inconvenient (for the enemy that is)

thanks i really passed next to that information.

hopefully im getting the codex this week so i wont have to use battlecollege to get an estimate anymore

Never take battle college as the gospel truth... It is a good source for basic concepts, but not anything you can really use for tactical or rule based info.

Bloody is a fun caster to play, and easy to use for new players. Hiding your army from shooting is great, and his feat is really helpful in controling the flow of the fight. Plus he has a spell to add to the defense of your models, making them harder to hit.

Keep in mind that Barnabas' Swamp Pits are still functionally pretty different from deep water:

    1) It only protects you from ranged attack targeting. Spells can still target you just fine. Some spells could even drag you out of the water to then allow other ranged attacks to target you.
    2) Unlike deep water, amphibious models in a swamp pit still block Line of Sight. If you have 5 gators in a pit, with Barnabas behind the pit, your opponent cannot target Barnabas because the gators still block Line of Sight to him.

Yeah that's actually very good , though quick question about the pond, can a swamp horror pull a giant khadorian jack into it then just simply headbutt it to inertion?

No, since you have to make power attacks instead of your initials and you can't buy power attacks.

If you want to do it, you need another beast to headbutt the jack after the SH pulled it.
