Default Show me your Cryx - Paint Scheme help wanted!

I about to start painting a Cryx army for a local grow league and I can't come up with a color scheme I like, so I'm reaching out to everyone here, help me find a scheme!

To give you some background, I'm going to be building an eSkarre list based around Satyxis and pirates. The 15 point starting army is going to include eSkarre, 6 Raiders + UA, a Leviathan, an Arc Node and a Machine Wraith. From there I'll expand to Black Ogryn and maybe the Blood Witches if they come out in time.

    Any help is appreciated!

Dark Steel, Corroded Gold and Crimson skirts are my colour themes.

Here is all my stuff thus far but here are a couple of my favorites:

    Good luck picking yours!

    Cheers

Edit: I love the effect Prismatic has on his jacks and armour of Goreshade. Its like either liquid moving underneath glass or a Vorlon ship from my favorite sci-fi show.

Thanks for all the images so far guys!

gcflash, I love your scheme and was tempted to "borrow" it, but I'm not 100% sure right now. I debating something a bit darker.

This is always the hardest part for me, picking the actual color scheme I want to use!

Steal away. Its also very easy/quick to paint the basic scheme as most it can be done purely a base colour followed with washes; although you can spend a lot more time with layering as I have done with some of the models I wanted to spend more time on.

To be entirely honest I really am far from a great painter, but as a man once said "you can only piss with the pen_s your given"!

Edit: and while I am being honest I did borrow from someone elses scheme to come up with mine.

    Cheers

One of these days I'll get around to doing the basing. Once I have them in hand again. And get all the associated bits, resin water, and basing material...
I do not work for Privateer Press. I am a volunteer. They don't send me paychecks, I don't have a desk in some corner of the warehouse, and I do not have Matt or Jason's phone numbers. I don't even live in the same time zone. If you ask me something related to how they do things, I'm probably going to refer you to Simon, Doug, or the 'email Privateer' option on the front page.

...And finish up Fiona, and the rest of the pirate half of the Cryx/Pirates.

Nah- the snow is going on the Khador stuff.

For Cryx I'm doing black medium ballast with the occasional skull mixed in, and then a few drops of resin water to seep among the ballast and skulls. On Fiona, Skarre, and eSkarre, and possibly a few others, I'm also going to use some of eAsphyxious' souls, although I haven't decided whether or not to do them in the standard green, or if I should go with some other colors to indicate the fact they're using non-standard magic.

Sounds good. If I had time I would probably re-base all my stuff to have a beach theme. Maybe some Satyxis playing beach volleyball or something.

I would love to use parts from the store but the shipping is prohibitive. I mean its almost cheaper to buy a whole jack than order a few parts + the p&p. Its a shame since the metal models sold in Europe are made in Liverpool (England). Ah well.

    Cheers

About the last part of my Cryx I painted to date:

    Oxidated copper and iron Cryx.
My main goal has always been to convince myself that my Cryx looked as if they were built of unpainted metals buried under a layer of dirt for at least 500 years an then taken, dried up and readied for conquest.

So far I am rather happy with the results. Far from done though as I still have about 50 miniatures left to paint

Here's my most recent stuff. It's actually similar in color choice to DancingMonkey's scheme.

    Goreshade and his woman

    Bane Thralls

    Seether

    Deathjack

If I might ask, how'd you get the dull metallic sheen on these fellows? I really want to go this route with my newer stuff with some rust added in, but I've not yet tackled that beast. Are you using metallics and then washing them down to dull them or are you drybrushing on metallics to get that sheen?

I actually did these two jacks two different ways.

With the DJ, I took boltgun metal and mixed in some black until it was dark enough for my liking. Then I just coated him with that everywhere. Then I put on Brazen Brass on top of that and did some washes on that to darken them up a little, but the DJ didn't get lots of washes.

The Seether I did by priming in metal (as shown here), painting brazen brass on the parts that I wanted in brass, followed by a metric crap-ton of washes. Mostly Badab Black and Gryphonne Sepia on the steel parts, but lots of Thraka Green on the brass.

Aha! Thank you! Hopefully, my old pot of boltgun didn't give up the ghost. I have the DJ primed now, and a whole weekend to get him done. Thank you for the info!

Good to see you back and active though solitaire. Still loving the crab jack, truely a work of art! Although I think I have hit one of those dry patches you talked about. Ah well.

Cheers indeed. Haven´t really done any real painting since I started on Darragh Wrathe (he´s not quite finished yet).

For the last few months I had a lot of worries about a very sick dog, had a (minor) car accident where I parked my camaro into a van, travelled a lot but slowly I feel how creativity forces its way to surface in another modelling frenzy sometime in the near future.
