Default Ret at Masters...this freaking close

Last weekend I attended WargamesCon in Ausitn, TX. Had a blast hanging out with all the WarmaHordes gamers across TX and some of the southern states. Went 6-1 in thier masters event, lossing out to a Protectorate Harbinger list for a second place finishing. Felt pretty confident going into the turn after Ossyan popped feat, infantry and battle engine where removed, jacks were either stationary or void locked....except for an Avatar that had trouble standing on the table and got replaced with the same type of dowls we were using as wreck markers and I forgot about him lol. Still felt good with my set up though. Came down to a close charge lane and clarification of engagement rules. Great game, even better opponent and time. Overall, Rets making a good showing this year IMO.

Good to see a fellow optimist doing well!

It sucks when you forget proxies.

Good job man! Sucks to forget about a proxy, but at least you had a blast.

Thorka always does well with very unique lists, good job man Its his Rahn list I have been using since he showed it to me and as much as I've tried to customize it some to make it my own, I haven't been able to make a list I like better than his.

I've not really played much of Rahn and haven't felt comfortable running him at 50 points with only 1 Battle Mage unit and 1 Magister (which is all I own at the moment). How'd this list perform and what were its opponents? Do you usually go for assassination or objective play?

I always put Aiyana & Holt in my Ossyan lists, it makes the list a perfect counter to Menoth. Cast Touch on the MHSF, pop feat and you can easily take down the Avatar and another heavy of your choice in one go. Most Menoth players don't see it coming

Good job though, unlucky with that charge lane!

I play that rahn list a lot and its awesome. I used to load up on mages and magisters and have found I have less bad matchups with only one unit of mages and one magister.

telekinesis awesome with mha's and narn.

Aside from "Manticore Smash!", does it serve a particular role in the Rahn list?

First off congrats on the wins there, and way to make a showing for the Retribution.

I am curious about a couple of things in terms of list building (hopefully this can help me as well). One is the Manticore in the Rahn list, I am curious as to why it is in there. Also why the Gorgon for reinforcements with Ossyan? Is the Gorgon to help more of a control oriented playstyle of his or just what?

Anyway once again nicely done on the showing and it does suck to forget about proxies.

polarity shield on the sents and then covering fire right in front of a phoenix means you have a lot of stuff that essentially can't be charged.

Its also cool later in the game to have another melee monster, rahn can help threat range and chance to hit with tk and knockdown and its a gun in a list that doesn't have a ton of them. Very versatile jack.

(Torka thor is my fav player to get Rahn advice from)

Yeah, even that was badass in the game. Will Hungerford was present for the weekend and made the call after five minutes of checking with 2 laser pointers lol. Both me and my opponent were content to just sit back and let the call be made without any bickering or anything, which just made the experience better. Sure you've seen how fast those moments can degrade into a poor environment for everyone.

I go back and forth between obj and assassination with the list, it does both well so its just recognizing where the better opportunity is while trying to put pressure on the other. I only used him twice at this event but Ive had a lot of success with it against every matchup, this time it was eGaspy and eFeora. In my last game, I would've def loved to have Aiyana lol but with the 3 lists I tend to get more mileage out of her in the Ravyn list.

Murkhadh's right on with how the Manticore works for me. He gives me more options in the list, between helping to cover more lanes with Polarity Shield or objectives, the beat stick he can be and his ROF/range to take out key models or take advantage of Rahn's threat ranges while the Sentinels come up, he always contributes to the plan. Depending on how the tables set, I like using the Gorgon to just hold something up. By the time he comes in, Im looking at my feat and his locking models lets me focus on more/other models on and then subsequently board control in later turns. Hope some of this helps or at least gets some ideas going.

    Hey PG_TorkaThor,

    Great result!
Out of curiosity if you were restricted to a two list environment, which two would you take? Or would you reshuffle things around to cover as many bases as possibly?

    Thanks.

I usually have Stormfall archers in every list, even with Rahn.

Have you done any testing with a Gorgon in your main list? I've been toying around with adding one (or two) to my Ossyan list, but haven't tried it out yet.

Unfortunately it's looking like more no than yes on GENCON this year but Im still trying. Warmachine Weekends looking good though, just have a hovering deployment to contend with. Good luck out there though Jason, thanks for the words. Demetritus, Im from TX...the San Antonio area.
