    Default Necessary books?

    Good morning all

I recently bought the Prime MKII rulebook. Are there other books I should purchase? The reason I ask is there are casters available to us that I don't see listed in the MKII book.

    Thanks!

There are a few expansion books such as "The Forces of Cryx" Book which show one of our newer casters. Along with the general book of "Wrath" Which shows Scaverous another new caster. You aren't required to have these books but they include some fluff you cant get anywhere else and show some units and casters you can't obtain from our 2010 faction deck or the prime book. BUT if you buy the model (so if you buy say scaverous) then their stat card and information will come with it. Choice is yours though the book is cool but personally I rather just buy the models and borrow the book from a friend to read

Force of Cryx details all models that were released before the release of MKII and updates all of their rules for MKII. Since then, Wrath was released and Collossals is about to hit later this month. If you own MKII Prime, Forces of Cryx, Wrath and Collossals, you will have information on every Cryx model. It's not strictly required to buy all of these, but it can make it much easier to figure out which models you want to buy.

I view the rulebook as a good starting place. It has a few warcasters, jacks and units, enough to start the game. The forces of cryx contains everything but the new stuff and should be bought. With the internet available there is no need to buy the expansion books, though i feel every group should have at least one copy available

Honestly, I wouldn't bother buying any of them except Prime right now (I did, but I'm a fluff bunny). They're useful for figuring out what you want to buy next, or reading up on unowned model stats - but War Room will make them completely unnecessary.

I expect to see War Room right around the same time we see the next Monsterpocalypse expansion(Never...)

The forces book did actually contain some new models as well. Venethrax for instance.

Buying the faction deck gets you rules for the majority of our models on the cheap. I always recommend that to newer players (battle box, Prime, Faction Deck)
You can quickly read up on something in the books at your FLGS or a friend. Plus every model you buy contains a card, so if you borrow a book and see something you like, you can buy it and have the rules handy.

Don't get me wrong, the books are worth buying, but as you start playing, you'll generally want to spend your money on miniatures first and books later

Something else that's in the FoW: Cryx book, Wrath and Colossals are the tier lists. While the tier lists aren't required to use a caster, and most of the time people just skip 'em, there's a few of them that are pretty damn good (Mortenebra's for example). But, the only book you really need is Prime MKII.
The cycle we go through with every release:
1st stage - reveal - Wow! Look at the new toys.
2nd stage - spoilers - Booo! They're not as awesome as I imagined!
3rd stage - actual play - Okay, this thing's (usually) not awful.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I bought the faction deck. And EGaspy. And Bane Thralls. And Bane Knights. And a Deathjack. And a Seether. Etc.. etc. etc.

    Necessary? Besides Prime? Not really.

But I have them all, so... I don't have to worry about such trivial things.

i would start with the rule book first, its very important, everything else is just additional fluff and info on newer models. any real additonal information you want on a certain model would all be on the card except the fluff
