    Default runeshapers

So I just bought my first unit of them. They have amazing sculpts. So I have read the tactica on them but I was wondering who u used to really make these guys shine? I was thinking maybe Gunny since with him and janissa I have lots of walls. I planned on running a melee force with him. Thoughts and suggestions?

Everyone - they shine because they need zero help from your warlock and can do their jobs without it.

That said, any time you take the KSB and can keep them in it, ARM 17 and 5 boxes tips them over the edge into strong survivability for the cost. So any beast brick caster is a solid choice. Any caster that has issues with things that need magic to hit/hurt can really use the extra help. Any caster that has issues with flanking models, as they are great for deterring most flanking model/units. All of this combined with a cheap cost means that they perform admirably in most beast bricks as they bring the stone, don't tend to have a lot of magic attacks and have issues with flankers without having much in the way of free points.

Of particularly mention is pDoomy's tier, which makes them cost 3 and gives about anything you could possibly want. That isn't one unit though, that is 2-4 or more units so I don't know how much that helps you - other than even a more traditional pDoomy beast brick gets solid use out of them for the same reason any of them do - probably more as he can afford to fill the stone easily.

I like them in my 50pt eGrissel list for close-in screening and force lock.
But don't get eGrissel just to run them...

I own 4 units... mostly for doomshaper1 Tier.
They're a unit that are underloved but can produce results. Especially when you throw janissa in the mix.

Outside of Doomshaper1 I run 1 unit with Grim, and 2 units with Gunnbjorn

I was considering pairing them with Burrowers. Runeshapers move in, knock people down, then the Burrowers roll in and smash. Has anyone tried this approach?

By themselves, they are a solid unit that provides a magical attack and aoe for taking out pesky models and units like blackbane's, void spirits, and pistol wraiths, as well as just being good splash damage for killing high def/low armor models like kayazy and blood trackers.

That said, where they really shine is the pDoomy theme force, which drops them to 3 points.

at 4 points, they are solid, but not amazing.

at 3 points, they become really good...and if you get 3 plus units they can potentially be amazing. 1 point a model for what they can do is great, and toss in Janissa to give them force lock, and you can give high mobility beast armies like Legion, Circle, and to some degree skorne, fits by locking their beasts in place.

Ya they seem to be good with the tier but alas I don't own more than one unit or Pdoomy yet lol.

@DogFog No I haven't used that approach yet but I use a similar one with borka and burrowers I might have to look into that though.

I'll be playing them with jarl this weekend.. Hopefully they do well with tactical supremacy. I can see it working but due to me only just getting the models and this being their first outing, I'm sure I won't use them to their full potential.

They are great at 4 points as they provide something that is very versatile and has a lot of broad as well as niche uses.
Tremor, Rock Hammer, Force Lock...all super useful.

pDoomy t4 is awesome and its thanks to these little guys.

Forcelock is not a native ability.

It is something Janissa grants them. Just to be clear since the OP is new to the models.

Oh yes. Absolutely. But then I'd never take RUneshapers without her because she's just gold.

Random application of Viktor Pendrake's Beast Lore produces lovely effects on Runeshapers vs beasts.

I forget if it's been mentioned, but native pathfinder is nice. And steady makes for a solid unit.

I bring them along in my pDoomy/Grissel lists sometimes, maybe even Calandra on the rare occasion. They're just all around solid.

The biggest turn off for them at first was paying 45-50 dollars for 3 models. But they make up for it eventually.

I just run Scouts way too much, and usually don't have points left over for them. But, if you've had as good of luck as I have with Scouts, you'd be in the same position.

(I'm talking about them racking up 10 points of units/solos in kills in one game.)
