You don't have to take my word for it:
It's basically a law of nature that if you have too much fun with something, power gamers have to come and take it away
HA...i came to the faction because of the Galleon...
not a power gamer tho...just a painter :P
but all joking aside is the Galleon viewed as the overpowered colossal? I've heard the most complaints about the stormwall...

My Mercs: http://privateerpressforums.com/show...-Mercs-thread/
Power gamers have no place in Mercs. A few units aside, we survive on wacky hijinx, not Cygnar-esque stupid amazingness. I think they'll stay right where they were. With the real factions.
Ironically, not even Cygnar is getting by on "Cygnar-esque" stupid amazingness. I think you'll find Cryx made off with our whole supply.
But yeah, Galleon looks like the top dog this rotation. Good ranged threat, the ability to use ranged and melee attacks in the same actuation, and good synergy with most of the casters who can take one. So far the only complaint about it that I've read is that taking two with some casters makes the inevitable victory too boring!![]()

Thank god I started playing Mercs just before Colossals was announced. Because I think Galleon is going to make people a LOT less fond of my pMagnus army.
My friend loves pirates and I love Llael. Pretty happy to be here for the re-sculpt and the "we can do anything, watch us" attitude. That said, I'm surprised the power gamers weren't here to begin with. Mercs are pretty boss. Maybe not enough Banes?
Um no it has to do with the lack of steam punk zombies, great wracks and ghost pirates..![]()
"You'd be a lot better at this game if you weren't so terrible."
I got into mercs early enough I won't feel bad at all for taking the Galleon and utterly breaking it. And by that I mean run it with Bart.
Optimistic theory crafting pirate loving merc player.
I've been playing shae since march so I don't feel any remorse getting a second list with galleon.
I can imagine a lot more players calling "C'MERE!" (Mortal Kombat reference for those old enough to remember)
FATALITY!
My Cleansers have killed: 2 Combine members, Finn, pNemo, Sentinel, Lord of the Feast, eMadrak, Mordikaar, pKreuger, Molik Karn, Calaban
Lord Carver has successfully raided: Xerxis, Shae, Nemo

I think we all knew this day was going to come, especially considering the support PP has given mercs since MKII kicked in. But, the good thing is that most power gamers are a seasonal flock and tend to be easily distracted by the newer more powerful shinies and when that occurs there will be a lot more cheap deals on Btown.. We just have to batten down the hatches until that time.
I've never though of playing mercenaries as being about 'playing' 'mercenaries.' Sure, the idea of leading a bunch of sellswords has some appeal, but I'm drawn to specific characters or certain broader themes like Lael or pirates or whatever. Being the scrappy underdog, essentially.
The idea of mercenary players having faction loyalty or pride is not only baffling to me, it seems entirely contrary to the nature of the faction.
Tell me they were a Cryx player. Oh, please, just tell me that! ^_^

You don't have to take my word for it:
I'm not speaking in absolutes or implying the other factions don't have similar feelings, but I tend to think dedicated merc players are some of the most loyal players I have seen. A lot of us, including myself, have played mercs for years or have large and prized merc collections.
I've had a Cryx player tell me my Mercs were broken.
Admittedly it was a Shae list.
In MKI.
And four pirates had just scrapped Deathjack.
Enough waiting. We want WarmarmotsMercs & Minions sheet

mercs? broken? i dunno what you're talking about D:
i seem to win more games with mercs than with everblight or cryx ._. maybe people are on to something here =P
then again, i love wacky hijinx and pulling game wins out of my arse, along with being unconventional and doing things no one expects. mercs fit that role really well ^^;
galleon will make mercs a bit more 'favorable' to powergamers yes, but, they'll lose interest soon enough when people learn how to deal with the galleon. then they'll look for the next thing that no one knows how to deal with. so much money wasted... but i guess it keeps PiP going strong so that us real gamers can continue playing away during the times we don't have money to buy models, since we dont have mommy and daddy's infinite moneys to buy everything under the sun. =P
I played Cryx with Magnus as an ally back when the game first came out, and stopped right at Apotheosis.
When I got back into the game in MkII, I decided Mercs all the way, simpley because Magnus IS the coolest character in the game
I don't know if I'd say Mercs is wacky hijinks. I think the wacky side of the faction is the aesthetics. I just played a holy paladin woman leading a bunch of knights, drunk pirates, a witch hunter, endangered elves, a crazy alchemist, Indiana Jones, a sad piper, etc. That part is wacky, and ragtag, patchwork feel of the armies is super fun
But mechanically, Mercs seems about what you'd expect from a ton of guys designed to play with other factions: powerful synergies going all over the place. Building lists usually feels like building a huge synergy machine, between Rhupert himself, the whole Pirate engine, Steelhead flanking, and every 'caster having some say in how his list operates, like Shae the speed demon, p and eMags buffing or amplifying damage, everything Damiano does, the new guy, etc.. Client bonuses, ample amounts of shield guard watching people's back, Dougal MacNail himself, Taryn helping LOS, the tons of 'jack marshals... it just feels like everyone is helping someone else, while fighting pretty well too.
I could be very wrong, but that's the feel I get from the faction. On top of how weird it is that someone paid a bunch of completely different people to pitch in and beat the crap out of Khador or whatever![]()
mercs can also have their own reasons for being in a fight outside of the job. and as for wacky hijinks, i find tons of them to do in this faction with most of my casters. it's easy to find things to pull off to just annoy your opponent to death to the point where by end game they dont care if they win or lose so long as it ends and they can play someone more 'vanilla' afterwards lol.
There's so much truth in this thread, it's a pleasure to read.
Among most of the opinions though I have to by any means second this one:
THIS is why mercs is for the smart people... I don't say factions are not played by them, but mercs need you to be intelligent to be successful.
But hell, if your combinative skills are at place you can do crazy things with your army!
An I lolled reading this one:
Happened to me more than once that someone (another WM/H player, not a pedestrian!) came to the table, took a look at my force and asked what army it was.![]()

Any pictures of the model, not looking to come over, just want to see it..
FOR BLOOD AND COIN, Tucker! Nothing else but personal gain..
I like mercs for the same reason that I like Trolls. Synergy. I can't seem to get enough of it. I hate straight forward meat grinder tactics. I want to win because I was clever and resourceful. Not because I just weathered the storm then applied axe to face [<--BORING]. Also we have all the cool character units that the other factions don't have. Macbain's soldiers of fortune list is so awesome! Awesome Char units at -1 cost?! Yes please.
I also love the depth of character in the merc army. Everyone has a story of downturn and revival or of victory. The sort of "Victory of Death" mentality. Love it.
And MagnustheJust, I actually think only crazy people play mercs for the same reason someone plays a paladin woman leads a bunch of knights and drunken pirates... etc...I like to have an army of crazy people who completely befuddle the opponent with tactics and end up wiping them off the board all while acting like we're setting a table for lunch (aka acting like MagnustheJust).

Why is all the pirate gone?
Need Moar Pirates...
I play Mercs because, as a Cygnar player, I had everything but the 'casters already. And then I had the 'casters. And then I had fun!

To play Galleon with Bart you must present a MK1 Forces of Warmachine: Pirates book at the start of the game.
