Default Everblight - did you paint any before assembling fully?

So I just got my Annyssa and I'm looking over the details and how the model goes together and I'm struck by the fact that there are a few areas with details which, once assembled would be almost impossible to get a brush into (eg areas behind her back once her cape is attached; or sections of the saddle once she and her quiver are fitted).

So I'm wondering who has chosen to paint before assembling, even if it was only part painting. From what I can see the biggest problem with paint before assembly would be both gluing parts (pins and shaving/preventing primer getting onto the joins) and also filling in any small gaps which might be present.

And if you chose not to - how did you get around those impossible to reach spots on the model? Just heavy shading and natural dark shadows?

Don't know about everblight, but if there are parts of the model that will obscure other parts when assembled, I would paint it before assembly, and assemble it later. Right now i'm doing the same on some boomhowler gruts, and ogrun bokur

Ah, Anyssa, the most complex model in the range. IIRC, I had 4 subassemblies with her when I started to paint: Back, head, body+arms and ulk. Oh yeah, the quiver was separate also, since it needed to lay over her leg. Plus I had to do some greenstuff work after the assembly over painted surfaces since her *** didn't align with the saddle.

Anyssa is hands down the worst in this regard. Almost all other Everblight sculpts can be fully assembled and then painted, only exceptions being Swordsmen and Archers, and even then it's their quivers and scabbards. And that HH sculpt.

But, hey, once you're done, what a model!
    Have blight. Will share.

Only model I have painted in parts is the Throne, simply because its too unwieldy to paint in one piece.
Usually parts that are obscured do not get looked much at so I either leave it black (if it really never gets looked at) or do a simple paint job there if its possible and I know that the part of the model will be looked at.

DrakkenBlut - ah sounds like a similar plan to what I have for Anyssa - I'm glad I'm not the only one to find the model quite challenging (at least in the theoretical painting sense).

Crate123 - I haven't seen one yet, but that surprises me, from the pictures online I would have thought the Throne to be one of the simplest models for painting in a single part, aside from some possible difficulty with the tentacles at the bottom?

The only Legion model I have not painted fully assembled (not counting attaching to base, tho most I did that as well) was my eThagrosh. His wings needed to be removable anyway, much less how difficult it would have been to paint him with those suckers on. Otherwise I've had no particular problem with painting around limbs, spikes, heads, etc. Honestly, I've had more issue with getting to undercarriages due to base width than anything, which has converted me to doing certain models held on pin vices.

I did paint tyranids way back in the day before Legion tho, so I might be just a tad biased. ;-)

Its just because its so big and I prefer to hold the model in my hands while I paint it.
