Default Everblight paint scheme paints advice

Ok I've a rough idea of the general colours I'd like to use, but I've no specific ideal how to achieve them upon the model. I do have some paints which can probably take me so far, but I'm not limiting myself to them, so if you've suggestions for paints please make them:

    Rough concept of Warbeasts:

White bodies as opposed to the traditional grey/blue effect. A more pure/frosty white.
Wings; at the moment sticking with the white of the body, maybe a more grey white than a strong white of the main body (I'm not fully given to making them into the watery blood red style of membrane)
Black armour plating with a white/grey highlight kind of effect (similar to what http://privateerpress.com/hordes/gal...warbeasts/raek shows here in effect.
A firery orange gill effect (something I can adapt to also be the Ravagore fire, though a more orangy than red flame)
Pinky/fleshy red for mouth and some edging around some armour plates (I'm not a full fame of the pinky skin effect around all the bone sections, but I can see its worth around some select ones on certain models).

possible - a very tiny part of me would welcome doing something along the likes of random black spots with orange edges (ie leopard like spots over areas of the body). However I'm unsure how to go about creating such an effect.

Paints/colours I have current access to:
Vallejo; Copper, London Grey, Sky grey, White grey, bright bronze, brassy brass, chainmail silver, tinny tin, verdigris

P3; brown ink, rhulic gold, ironhull grey, molten bronze

    GW;
base/colour: tin bitz, warplock bronze, gold griffon, boltgun metal, mechanicus standard grey, graveyard earth, mournfang brown, steel legion drab, chaos black, mithril silver
Layer: runelord brass, ushabi bone, doombull brown, brass scorpion, wazdakka red, dawnstone, tallarn sand, balor brown
Wash/ink/glaze: bloodletter, casandora yellow, badab black, gryphonne sepia, nuln oil, agrax earthshade,

From doing some reading around it would seem that the best undercoat to go with for the models would be either a grey or a black, thus I'll make use of the GW black undercoat spraypaint which I've access to (unless others can give a compelling argument against this?).

From there its a bit more iffy for me, I've just not the experience to know well what colour combos would work, not the spare models to experiment upon (nor the diversity of colours to know/experiment with better combos).

So if anyone can give me some suggestions I would be most welcome - also feel free to comment on the proposed paint scheme if you feel that there are parts missing or which might conflict with each other

If you're going to be doing that much white, I'd highly suggest a white undercoat. It won't go on like black, you'll need 2 coats for even coverage. Then, you can hand paint all the black areas.

I like your idea of orange rimmed spots - just paint big orange spots, then go back with your black and fill them in leaving a thin line of orange.

Have you though about how you'll highlight the black carapace? I;d suggest P3 Coal black, it has just a touch of green in it, which will counteract the orange nicely.

Ahh I was thinking backward with the spots - starting black and edging orange, the reverse would be easier indeed!

Also with regard to the primer my choice was partly based on this thread: http://privateerpressforums.com/show...ite-based-army

which whilst it suggested grey as a more suitable base, black works easier since shading up to brighter is easier than shading down to darker with white as a main colour.

If I was going to go about painting the colours described my plan would be this.

Prime White. Then base the scales and mouth/teeth black. The flesh would be a pale grey base, which I do second so I can cover up any mistakes from the black. I then do highlights by mixing white to the grey, doing a bunch of thin coats up to pure white, followed by washes of watered down grey wherever I think some more shading is required.

If you want to add spots then paint them while doing the scales. Put a white dot in the centre of each one and clean up the edges as you paint the skin.

Since you have this light base the colours can be doen through a series of washes. If you want a richer yellow then start with a thin wash of orange in the gills. Follow up with layers of yellow. Do the same in the spots. Build up layers as though you were highlighting, steadily putting more and more pigment in the spots you want to emphasise. Then go back and smooth it out with the white as needed to keep the flesh smooth. Do the red around the mouth the same way.

As for the scales, if you look at the PP Raek you can see they aren't actually black except for the base, they're more of a dark brown built up. Either way you want to cover most of the scales with the actualy main colour, either brown or grey, that you want to build up from. This should be close to the back, so mix black in so the tone from the black in the bottom shades is close to your base colour. From there you paint in a straightiated pattern, building up highlights fairly quickly, with final highlights being just along the edges.

So that's how I'd go about it. I hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions Defenstrator. Out of interest do you have any idea of specific paints I could use to accomplish them? I know I could work simple with just black and white to mix up the greys to build up layers - however since I don't have anywhere near the majority of the models to paint, I'd rather remove some element of random from the process so that I can paint them as I collect them (since I wouldn't want to end up having to mix, remix and repaint areas if I get the grey mixture a little different each time)/.

    Hunted around and found this:
    http://handcannononline.com/blog/201...ainting-white/

Suggests toward a more yellowy highlight method and not much mention of grey base, which flicks contrast to partly what I expected. I'm not sure if its the video and youtube or the style of white he has gone for but it seems more yellowy than I would think would work on a beasty - of course I could be wrong. Anyone got any thoughts?
