Default PP has broken me for playing any other wargames..............!!

I must say how NOT angry I am that when I try to play other table top games and even video games they just don't hold my interest. At home as I am playing a video game I find myself looking back over my shoulder at my models.

I tried playing that OTHER game yesterday with its sixth version of itself and found it wanting in so many ways. I honestly think PP has broken me for playing other games.

    You can say Warhammer 40K.

But I get you. I have tried Warhammer Fantasy, 40k, Anima, Malifaux, Infinity, Hell Dorado, Confrontation, Dust, AT-43 and Heavy Gear. I'm still here with a full army and growing
    WARMACHINE/Hordes no more.

They ruined me on Fantasy/steampunk games.

    AT-43 ruined me on Sci-fi.

Certain genre of video games still hold my interest - Rainbow Six for FPS, Starcraft for RTS, and pretty much anything from Bethesda for RPG's...

Flames of War is my big other go to miniature game. I like the mix of historical accuracy, scale of models, and rules balance. I also really like the fact that the rules makes sense!! Plus it plays similar to $40k...

But I do understand what you mean about Warma/Hordes ruining other games for you. Definitely one of the high-water mark setters in my book!!

What's crushed me on videogames is the bent towards everything being very realistic. I miss the bright colors and bold art directions we used to see until this generation. A big part of what holds my attention here is the colorful armies and vivid character designs you used to see in videogames all the time.

I'm in the same boat. I used to be a very competitive 40K player, but I just haven't felt any excitement about the new edition. I've played maybe 3 games of 40K this year so far, and about 50 of warmachine. I'm hooked. I keep thinking I should play some games of 6th edition, but the other half of me says that will just take time away from getting games in for the WMH league...

There is no way im leaving Warmahordes for any other game for more then to try it.
The Depth this game got.. damn... i have a solid collection of 200p Circle and growing and 200p Khador and now starting on a T4 eMagnus Merclist (only at 25p atm.)

I have been a rollplayer and a tabletop gamer for a long time and was stuck in 40k and Fantasy battles untill my friend "forced" me to take a shot at this game... now i cant drop it.. im not even buying 6th 40k...

I have to admit, I really enjoy playing Warmachine & Hordes more than anything else. That said, I've been playing Flames of War and enjoying it and I just played Infinity for the first time the other night and really enjoyed that too. So I'm not ruined, per se, but I do favor Warmachine & Hordes all things being equal.
The forums seem to have one of two responses to new models. (A) "This model is worthless, I'll never use it." or (B) "That model is over powered, it's going to break the game." A few models get both responses, which ends up being really hilarious.
But what's wrong with saying "This model is circumstantially good and it's up to me as a good player to exploit its strengths and minimize its weaknesses"?

Tried Dust, Infinity, Firestorm Armada, Uncharted Seas, and Dust Warfare. I'm hoping Dropzone Commander will give me a scifi game to play since I desperately keep trying to find one. I like to have an alternative game to play so I don't get burned out. 9 years is the longest I've stuck with a single game system with constant playing. I'm a huge battletech fan but opponents are few and far between.

And 'realistic,' of course, means 'dark and grim.' I love League of Legends, and I thought I'd try a similar game in the same genre. So I downloaded Rise of the Immortals. I played the tutorial and was done with it. LoL's graphics style suits me fine.

To get back to the OP, yeah, minis games have ruined me on MMOs and video games in general. I barely play LoL anymore. I'd rather paint.

I'm also on the same boat as the OP. I came from other systems, tried some new ones and I too also kept yearning for more balance/rule changes. It's hard to go backwards and it shows what a long beta testing period could do for overall game balance/issues. Hopefully more of the newer companies take notice of that.

I was having a wishful thinking moment about Dropzone Commander rules too, but after hearing how long they have been play testing I don't have my hopes too high as of right now. Knowing that the average game takes 2-3 hours makes me wonder how they are going to do a tournament system that they have said they want to push hard for.

I actually still enjoy playing my Space Wolves, and the 6th edition ruleset looks pretty interesting. But then again, I play 40k and WM/H for very different reasons and enjoy them in very different ways.

I like Malifaux. The mechanic are very similar to Privateer's rule set. I like the smaller scale and the quik games. But I hear you on GW, Khador pretty much killed 40k for me. I love the models and the fluff for GW games, I just cant get into the rulesets like I can with Privateer games.

Best description I've seen is, Privateer is a game company that make miniatures and GW is a miniature company that makes games.

My wife and son have been gone for the week. I was temped to go get the newest Zelda game and give it a go, but then I wouldnt be able to paint. Thank god for my iPad or I wouldn't even watch tv while painting.

As for 40k, every time I see one thing in the new rules that interests me, I see three more that make me say "no thanks". At least now I can finish putting all my 40k on eBay.

I'm with batman on this one, Warmachine/Hordes has replaced my desire to play Magic. Though I still have a few EDH (Commander for the new kids) decks, I haven't spent money on Magic since the Commander decks hit the market. Most of my money goes to video games and WMH.

Warmachine all the way for me. I quit 40k and fantasy years ago, but WM (combined with some of the stupid stuff in Scars) made me pretty much quit Magic too. I still have my decks, and I'll probably get into it once Return to Ravnica rolls around since original Ravnica was my favorite set, but for the most part Warmachine is the only game I spend money on anymore. I still play plenty of videogames, but League and TF2 are completely free so all of my money still goes to Warmachine.

I still have a bunch of systems I like, but now consider secondary. Infinity, Malifaux, Helldorado and Pulp City are all games I enjoy, but I'd much rather play Warmachine than any of them.

The new ed of 40K grabbed my interest as far as seeing what's changed, and I kind of want to paint a Necron army (just have no desire to play it).

PP is basically what I use as the basis for steampunk at this point. Never tried 40k, but I have gone over the different variations of the rules and it seems very bloated.

    Weird.

This sort of devotion always strikes me as weird in gamers.

I play lots of wargames and like them all.

WM/H is not perfect. No game is. But it is a good game. That's all though, it's a good game.

You're on the forum for the company that owns the game, expect there to be one or two people who might just like the game It would be odd to be seeing many posts saying "Well, actually I do rather prefer DBA".

WM/H isn't perfect, but I think it's probably the best ruleset I've come across yet (though I do really like the mechanics of Malifaux, right now I don't play much because the balance is totally wrecked). The release of 40K6 has seen a bit of a spike in interest locally, but I'm guessing it will die out soon, we've been a mostly PP club for some time now.

It's not odd seeing people who like the game.
Seeing people who think they have to sto playing other games because they play WM/H is.
FWIW It's been ages since I played WM/H. Still love the world, just got burned out. Will try and find time to start playing again, and am adding some new toys to my Troll army for that purpose. I have no intention of selling any of the four WM/H armies I've accumulated since i started playing Pre-Escalation.

I've been playing a lot of Malifaux. It gives me a very different experience as the scale of battles is completely different, in fact providing the thing that WM has moved away from that initially pulled me in (small, low model count games - yes I know there's still Battlebox etc but it's not the same for me).

I think if you're excluding other games for reasons other than the financial then you probably need take a look at yourself. There's too much cool stuff around to just play one game.

I used to play GW games a little before reaching high school and stopped shortly before I finished. Stopped playing games though I would occasionally look around the net for anything interesting. Started getting into PP about a year ago and was able to convince a friend who used to do GW to start up with me. Really enjoy the system and currently only play their game, though that is more to do with money and avaliable players for other systems. I do like keeping an eye on other games though just to see whats going on.

Fair point. Other GOOD games then. GW are - by their own admission - a miniatures company who make games these days, not the other way around. I could write a thesis about why that company are the best and worst company in the business...this is not the place fro that though.

I played 40k solidly for about 6 years. got into WMH at the dawn of the age of Mk2. Havent looked back since. I stepped aside from 5th ed 40k. for what its worth though, 6th looks intriguing. i will dust off my tau and have a go, but if it requires an investment of £100s to get back to being competitive, its not worth it. that said, i concur with the attitude of not holding yourself to just one game. thats simply fanboyism. WMH is great, but its nice to have an alternative, and to have an interest in the hobby as a whole. For me, Infinity has taken up a lot of my time lately - i've been doing demos locally here in scotland, and from 6 demos i've had 6 people interested in buying in. its a great "bit on the side". Plus i am interested in other games - might not invest too heavily, but dropzone commander and dust look very, very interesting so far.

I could never collect more than one game system - hell, I can't afford to collect more than one WM/H faction. Other than Khador, all I play is Gee-Dub's LOTR games (no longer need to purchase any minis) and the Uncharted and Madden games on my PS3.

Combo Breaker! Wait...what was the OP again?

Anyhow it was 40k that wrecked me from GW style games and dark future themes altogether. Got burnt out on Flames of War quicker than I expected and I'm always wondering when I'll dust off my Battletech collection.

I'm starving for a serious mid-late Cold War miniature game though. PP has me dug in like a tick either way which easily makes Warmachine my goto game for the foreseeable future. That is until a new edition of Gruntz 15mm comes out. (I'm having this love-hate relationship with sci-fi gaming of late...)

Personally I used to do the 40k thing but being in Australia has ruined that because we pay about double for everything GW compared to the rest of the world so GW as it seems is dying a rapid death over here. I changed to Warmachine initially due to cost but I do thoroughly enjoy it.

Playing warmahordes has switched my mind on an attitudes toward the single games that not always works on other wargames.

But sometimes the straight: "Always aggressive, everything is sacrificable" attitude that playing Legion puts in you, works better that the more cautious approach

Oh, and the combo "Crap computer+no consoles+toy soldiers" has completely kicked me out of the world of videogames!

I'm really looking for a decent skirmish game with proper customisation potential. It's times like this I wish Vor : The Maelstrom wasn't dead so I could break out the NeoSoviets and kill some home-made aliens with SCIENCE!!!!!

Also, The Secret World has taken away from my tabletop time. If it wasn't for the fact it's a PC game, I'd be over all other forms of gaming for a looong time...

I feel bad for the majority of you. There are a lot of great times to be had. Playing warmahordes and playing 40k offer 2 different experiances. Both are fun for their own reasons. It would be like comparing, football, to baseball. Both are ballgames, yet they are different and offer a different type of enjoyment whe played.

It's no question of devotion of fanboyism for me, it's simple logic. My gaming time is precious with a family of 3 kids, I don't wanna waste it on a random dice fest like both current GW games of Firestorm Armada, which I tried out as well, because I really like their models. I have waaay too much 40k laying around, since I started with it 15 years ago, but there's no fun to be had when all your efforts during a game are wasted on one die roll or your expensive models are blowing up in your deployment zone without even having a chance to take part in the game. I played a few games now of 6th, with high hopes, but they were quickly dashed with the introduction of even more random elements. For me random =/= fun although I respect that some people don't mind it and some maybe even enjoy it. It's frustrating for me. All this coupled with GW's customer "care" policy over the recent years brought me firmly into the arms of PP, who are so far simply doing everything right. Oh and videogames feel kinda hollow to me, I try stuff out for a few days, then just return to painting/gaming - best example Diablo 3. To be honest a big factor for me is also the social aspect and face to face interaction you get with tabletop games as opposed to video games.

I play quite a few games, but Warmahordes came to be a huge part of my group's play time. Sometimes I wonder if its still the newness of it, then we need to double-check if blast damage rounds up or down, decide to chance looking under "rounding" in the index, and it was there! Love it when a game has thorough and well-indexed rules.

I felt the same when I was playing 40k. A friend tried to get my to play Confrontation and Warmachine, but I just wasn't interested. Then MkII hit and I got into Warmachine and apparently contracted Gamer ADD. Now I own several Armies for Warmachine, Infinity, Mailfaux and Freebooter's Fate.
It's more the painting and conversion side that really attracts me to do multiple things. I can no longer churn out numberless Platoons of guardsmen, I want to paint specialists and characterful models. WarmaHordes has the perfect blend of grunts and characters for me while the skirmish games mean I can go nuts on painting and don't have to paint the same sculpt twice. GW has sadly reached the Nirvana where their sucky rules/prices keep me from buying any of their admittedly gorgeous plastic models (Dark Eldar). Though I still sometimes dust off my Guard and Space Wolves to play the occasional beer and pretzels game with a friend.

I play very few videogames these day's beacuse I am a fan of Coop titles that I can enjoy with friends and most newer titles are just the same "me against the world" stuff. (CoD etc.) Diablo 3 my recent hope, was a great disappointment.
