Question pSeverius - 15 Points to learn - New to Warmachine and Menoth

I'm brand spankin' new to Menoth, and still learning the game of Warmachine (have about 10 games under my belt with Cygnar), and want to start out with pSeverius and play some 15 point games to get my feet wet and get the feel for Menoth.

Here's the list I was thinking about using to learn on:

    pSeverius
    Blessing of Vengeance
    Heirophant or Exemplar Errant Seneschal
Exemplar Errants (Leader & 9 Grunts)
Exemplar Errants Officer & Standard Bearer
    Vassal of Menoth

That's 15 points on the nose. Do you think this would be a good list to learn on? I already own quite a few Menoth models (a bunch actually), so I have a lot of options and am very open to suggestions.

My goal is to have a list that I can stick with for awhile that will teach me how to play Menoth while still learning the ins and outs of the game itself.

Would this list do that? Or would I be better off taking something else.

Thanks in advance for your help. It's very much appreciated.

If you wanna get a feel for our faction and play 'as Menoth' as you can, I'd suggest a different list. Your list is a little 'unbalanced' since you play a max. unit of expensive infantry (possibly even with the Seneschal) @15pts. Usually, at this point level, people don't play any infantry at all. Personally, I DO play infantry at 15pts; however, at this point level, I'd go with the Temple Flameguard for sure. In 25pt games or less, the Errants are just too expensive imho. The TFG are cheaper and have never once disappointed me on the battlefield - especially with pSevy leading them (Defender's Ward on them is so awesome!).
In order to get a feel for the faction, you should definitely bring a choir and a second jack. A perfect list to learn the rules with is this imho:

    pSevy
    - Blessing
    - Reckoner

    min TFG
    min Choir

You will learn how to handle the choir effectively (when to 'battle', when to play defensively?), and you become familiar with a lot of key concepts/rules of the game (units, arc nodes). On top of that, it's fairly competitive.

You can play with a whole unit if you like but as stated above I wouldn't think Errants to be the first choice in this. For one thing you'll be going up against alot of heavies and errants struggle against them, weapon master damage is really hampered by POW 9.

If you are set on Errants I'd go for a min unit with U/A, BOV, Crusader, Wracks = 15 pts total

You need a heavy jack. There are some armies you will face where you just need a heavy. I think if you can squeeze in an infantry unit fine, but you need BOV, Heavy, choir. plus anything else you like.
In 2013 I have made a pledge to take time for myself and paint an hour every day. It takes me about 2 hours to paint a basic troopers so I made a point system to keep track of my goal. 2pts small base, 4 pts med base, 6 pts large base and bonus points for special figs. You should make your own pledge. Do 90 pts in 90 days, or even 30 points in 30 days. You can look here to see how I am doing, More flames and bones here!

You also say in the op that you are looking to learn to play with the above list. That said perhaps you should squeeze a min choir in there. Learning to play Protectorate well does require knowing how to use your choir effectively, which requires practise.

I'D change what I put to this.

    Severious1 +6

    Crusader 6
    Revenger 6
    min Errants 5
    Errant U/A 2
    min Choir 2

Dropping BOV to get choir in, 1 Heavy jack and the U/A for Errants as it makes them so much better. BOV is really good with Severious though i think at 15 you can get away without it. There will be less models that can be affected by A2A effectively anyways, I don't think the +2 to damage to 1 spell per turn outweighs the +2 to damage the choir can give to the jacks every turn. Considering your other options you may want to switch out the Errants to something cheaper if you feel BOV is a must.

You have no way to deal with high ARM in that list.

I actually don't believe in 'learning at 15'. The only real reason to do it is if you're still deciding you like the game, and if you like the game then if you like the faction. I encourage people to play at 35 points from the get go because I don't believe playing at 15 points really teaches you much about the game.

If you've decided to take the plunge (and spend the $$$$) then that's my advice.
