Default So i keep getting owned by Hordes

Hey guys, as the thread is titled i keep getting owned by hordes Circle in particular as 2 of my friends run Circle. I was wondering if any one has any strategies against them. Or around the amount of bloody forests and blocking of LOS said forests have been causing. What lists have you guys run that have been effective and against which Circle casters currently i can expect to fight any of the following Circle casters
    pBaldur
    Cassius
    eKaya
    Kromac
    Moshar

this is very general but i think it might help. i fight alot of hordes and 1 thing i have noticed that cross to all hordes factionsl. target the beast if you can. honestly make beast more of a target then a good infentry unit or possible a support solo unless it will cause you a loss. cutting out the fury and 1 of there spell is a huge blow i have found and allways helps

Personally, if you know your going to face a caster that will use Forests and clouds to block LOS I would take eIrusk as my caster (his feat will put pay to the any forests/clouds blocking LOS) and then fill with heavy hittng Infantry and a couple of Jacks capable of taking out Moshar's Pillars of Salt. Or another trick is WGIDS and a cheap throw away unit, place throw away model in LOS of WGIDS and then position to spray him to catch enemy models.

But I'm sure there will be someone along shortly to say otherwise

    Hope this helps thou......

Since you haven't provided many details beyond the fact that you're having a lot of trouble with forests, I'm going to comment that Yuri the Axe has the ability Treewalker [which grants +2 DEF vs melee attacks in the woods and allows you to ignore forests completely] and grants Treewalker to Manhunters and Kossite Woodsmen.

Further, the Nyss Hunters have Pathfinder and Hunter, and are an available mercenary unit; another mercenary to consider would be Saxon Orrick, who can grant Pathfinder to other units, and has anti-warbeast abilities, though he doesn't get to see through forests.

Old Witch's entire battlegroup ignores forests and cloud effects for the purpose of determining LOS while Augury is up. Old Witch and Scrapjack also have both Prowl and Pathfinder.

There's also a Khador warjack with Pathfinder, the Kodiak. It's actually possible to make a 50 point Khador list that is completely at home in the woods, though you don't need to go quite this extreme, something like this might put your friends back on their toes if they're used to confounding you with woods:

    • Zevanna Agha, the Old Witch of Khador (-3pts)
      • Kodiak (8pts)
      • Torch (10pts)
      • Sylys Wyshnalyrr, the Seeker (2pts)
      • Scrapjack
    • Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Cylena and 9 Grunts) (10pts)
    • Kossite Woodsmen (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
    • Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts)
    • Alten Ashley, Monster Hunter (2pts)
    • Manhunter (2pts)
    • Manhunter (2pts)
    • Saxon Orrik (2pts)
    • Widowmaker Marksman (2pts)
    • Yuri the Axe (3pts)

Everything except the Widowmakers, Orrick, and Ashley ignore forests for LOS purposes (at least, provided you use Augury).

Everything except Sylys and Torch have Pathfinder, and Torch gains Pathfinder while charging (Sylys doesn't need it, he's just there to make the Old Witch scarier).

You have two anti-warbeast mercenary solos, one of which can grant Sylys - or a non-charging Torch - Pathfinder.

In fact, you like woods - the Kossites, Manhunters, and Yuri get +2 DEF against everything while in the woods, the Widowmakers and Orrick solos get +2 DEF against ranged while in the woods, Old Witch and Scrapjack gain Stealth while in the woods.

I'm just getting into Khador so I have no specific advice, but I do play Skorne.

In general, Hordes has a problem with infantry swarms. Field lots of infantry that can hit hard and aggresively throw them at the beasts. Nyss are top on the list, Kayazy can be surprisingly good at doing damage to some of the lighter ARM beasts, Doom Reavers are a nightmare that must be dealt with fast beore they wreck a heavy. Even Pikemen are a threat with Crit KD and POW13.

Move your infantry up in "waves" and keep hitting those beasts. Once you take out 2 heavies you've got Hordes in a corner. Keep laying on the troopers to finish them off. I wouldn't suggest many jacks, Hordes is gonna out do your heavies. Behemoth is always a massive threat, but even the humble Berzerker can be an interesting choice. Two of them is cheap and you just run them at enemy heavies backed up infantry swarm. They don't need to wreck a heavy, just be annoying and put some damage down, then let the infantry finish them off.

Not always that simple of course, and like I said I don't play Khador, but take it for general good advice against Hordes.

Circle is definately the hordes faction best equipped to take on infantry swarms, but we have a hard time with heavy targets. One of the scariest things I see in Khador is their shooting threats. A forest or pillar is easy to place for stopping a charge, not so easy for stopping shooting. A pVlad or pSorscha list can put out an awful lot of damage with bombards and eliminate a heavy or two before they can close with you. Combine pow14 shots from mortars/jacks/gun carriage with widow makers plinking away his beasts spirit columns. Beasts to take out as priorities if possible are the warp wolf stalker, ghettorix, and the gorax. Hope this gives you some ideas, I play circle and if you have any questions let me know.

Circle depends on movement shenanigans to get the alpha strike. There are extremely squishy, high defense, and inter dependent.

In general, against hordes factions, taking out their beasts cripples them. Pick one beast, and hammer on it with ranged shots till it's dead. Then move to the next beast. Do not try to pepper a bit off each of them (unless you have models in charge range to finish them off!)

Some models are worse than others:

    1) If you are infantry heavy, Kill Lord of the feast ASAP!
    2) Druids screw with shield wall, can pull target models into charge range, and can shut down Greylords/Kolduns and your caster. Get AoE's into them early if possible.
    3) Ghatorix is about as big and scary as their beasts get. Do what ever you can to make sure he isn't getting the alpha strike on your most prized heavies/caster.
    4) The Stones are a huge amount of utility. But if you kill just 1 of them (or the UA+1) you can shut down their ability to teleport models.

Any game you walk away from knowing why it ended, and how to repeat or avoid that conclusion in the future, is a victory.
