Default New IK RPG Book = Fun new Custom Solos for WM/Hordes?

I was reading NoQuarter issue 40 and was thinking that though it won't be a direct translation it's sounding like if you took the time you could figure out what level of character and abilities, say the equivelant of a 3 point solo. Would make it so that you could then make custom Solos and such that are balanced for fun with the friends. I'm super excited if this is the case! It would be really badass to have a template to work off to make up some cool custom Solos or even Warcasters for Friendly (casual) play!

What do you guys think of that? Or does anyone have any information about it being able to translate over pretty easily?

That would be really interesting and it would give me a excuse/justification to buy the RPG book.

My initial response to this was: so, if people think that they have a reason to complain about solo x now, what happens when you start upgrading it? The two systems may be based off the same base mechanic, but I don't think they're interchangeable in any balanced way. If you wanted to home-brew stats for the models to be used in the RPG, that's one thing. Adding to the stats of a Warma/Hordes model is another.
The cycle we go through with every release:
1st stage - reveal - Wow! Look at the new toys.
2nd stage - spoilers - Booo! They're not as awesome as I imagined!
3rd stage - actual play - Okay, this thing's (usually) not awful.

My impression is that its better to add the mass combat to the rpg then other way around.

Agreed, it'll make it much easier to scale up the RPG. From what we've seen so far, it appears that you /could/ translate IK characters to WM/H, but there is a whole lot of flexability in those characters and balance is going to be a huge concern. I wouldn't anticipate IK characters becoming a mainstay to the table. But I could see folks putting on special events where you get to make a level X character and play it with your army. But that's entirely based on what little information we have thus far.

It would take a huge amount of playtesting and experimentation before anyone should consider an event based on it.

Any game you walk away from knowing why it ended, and how to repeat or avoid that conclusion in the future, is a victory.

For games with your friends this could be fun, for anything remotely competitive it would almost certainly be a nightmare. I have never seen an RPG (doesnt mean there isnt one ofcourse but I have tried many) that couldnt be horribly broken by anyone who really wanted to.

Ya like i said, i'm not talking for competitive play.

I am talking like what thatrickguy said, Make a character with a set level and points limit. Perhaps i was being confusing when i used a 3 point solo as an example, i meant to make your own character who by the rule books standards would match up in level and skill points as a 3 point solo.

Decade when reading about how they are doing it, it sound absolutely interchangable, you have the same stats as you do in Warmachine, only you then have a few extra stats. The combat an such is going to be very similar (it's a 2D6 System) with a few more variables and such. However from what i've read i think it will translate over very well!

For instance in the article he talks about how he starts by picking a dwarf. Humans Ogruns, Trolls, all the playable races in IK will be available, so you'll be able to amke any kind of cool solo or character or even custom Warcasters/Warlocks. Then he chooses a Archetype then a career then chooses some skills to go with, and then outfits with items. It all has a way to be balanced, so i think it wouldn't too hard to find the balance for a way to add some more fun and depth to casual games. Or yes eventually even figuring out if you can have your own character in campaign games or anything like that.

I'm thinking it may be as simple as, (may not) pick a race, pick X amount of skills (everybody gets the same amount) So weapon master, Gang, and Stealth. (just as an example) Or if those skills have a point base, then you'd be able to set a point limit. So you'll have to pick and choose more carefully. Then you get to choose two weapons and Armor and your off! I dunno exactly i'm just speculating.

Either way with how close the system is going to be to Warmachine i'm just damn excited for that.

I'm planning an adventure already I play to do a large scale battle at some point in the campaign I'm planning and I figure I could just use the WM/H rules for it and anything the PCs be based of monster/npcs from the IKRPG book. I figure with the similiar mechanics it would fun to throw a WM/H battle into the adventure. All my friends play it WM/H anyway.
