I am pretty sure they have talked to the various app stores before setting the release date. I am pretty confident that it will be out at some point today. we just have to wait for the guy at the app store approval to drag his butt into work after a long holiday weekend, go through his backlog of emails, get his cup of coffee, gossip and tell his friends how his weekend was, go back to his desk and play angry birds, check face book, get more coffee, look at the pile of work to approve on his desk, complain about how much he is behind at work on facebook, get more coffee, more angry birds, lunch, facebook, bathroom, answer first email of the day, grab a soda, hide out in the bathroom, play angry birds on the toilet for 20 minutes, go back to desk, answer 2nd email of the day, take after noon break, gather stuff to go home for the day, spend the last 5 min of the day hitting approval button for the 200 apps he has to approve.

That's how i see it anywho...

I think you forgot his 10 minute break to scratch whatever body part he can reach without being seen by a female coworker, but I think the rest is good.

Okay, that's funny. But yeah, that sounds about right.

Latest Amazon app store search results:
    • War Room: A puzzle game where neither word appears in the name or description.
    • Hordes: Some zombie apocalypse game?!?
    • Warmachine: Relevant results, at least. A gaming podcast's app, and 'An army roster creation tool for wargamers.'

The part I dont understand is why us Google Play users are having to wait.

The Android Market does not have an approval process nor does it have a delay between publishing an app and it showing up in the search results. The only conceivable reason is they are waiting until its approved by the others for a simultaneous launch but seeing as how this isn't a Video game the desire for a simultaneous launch becomes meretricious.

The app was put into the system on Friday. It's still early Monday morning. I'm sure the Android market at least requires a human being at some point in the process, and they probably don't work weekends. If nothing else, incoming apps are probably checked for malware.

That is a wonderful word, thank you for using it, I had no idea English had a word for that.

PP marketing seems to have a very poor grasp of the internet, but they're slowly improving. Hopefully eventually they'll get how it works and we'll see an improvement in their internet-related business practices. You can already see this in the revamped model galleries, which are organized in a better fashion than they used to be, but still in an arbitrary way that could be drastically improved.

There's no good reason to involve a human in that sort of thing.

There are a lot of processes that could be completely automated that involve a human being. The simple fact is that there are times that it's simpler and easier to pay someone to sit in a chair, stare at a screen, and make an appropriate mouse click.

Extend out your logic, and there should be no need for moderators on this board, but there is and we do need them.

I submitted an app to apple a while ago, It was as simple as an app can be, an it took almost two weeks to clear apple and hit the store.

I seem to remember while filling out the forms that there was a "release date" feature, that the developer could choose to hold the app after review to be released on a certian day also, if PP decided to go that route. I doubt it though or they most likely would have said something to the community.

What are you talking about? Moderation is currently utterly impossible to automate. That's not a price concern, because we simply don't have artificial intelligence anywhere near the level we'd need to do things like working out when a thread is being civil or has gone off topic.

It is almost always much more expensive to pay a human being to click a mouse than it is to have a computer click the same mouse. Processes that could be automated but aren't typically have other reasons, such as politics (e.g. the union has demanded that the job not be automated) or bureaucracy (it would cost 200,000 dollars to get the software written and 100,000 dollars to pay the human, and the person in charge of the decision is only responsible for the department's budget one year at a time). As you say, one of those can be laziness, but I seriously doubt Google of all companies just can't be bothered to have someone whip up the necessary code.

Apps are checked for malware in an automated process. I have an app on the Market and it went live immediately after I clicked "Publish"

That's part of the beauty of the Android market, you don't have to wait for someone to give you the okay, you can have a developer account created and an app on the market in less than 5 minutes (provided you already have the app written). It's a very simple process.

PrivateerPress: tell your man in charge of the publish button to push it.

I bet Tinkerhouse has been told to hit that button as soon as Apple publishes the App, and Apple moves at the speed of "You shouldn't hold your phone that way" so who knows when that will happen.

I agree, but I would be very upset if they decide to withhold the app from Android users simpy because Apple is dragging their feet.

Apple also moves at the speed of "Must check to make sure this doesn't conflict with any of our first party apps we sell, or any we are considering selling".

Yes, they do vet their programs against many things ... in one of the most arbitrary systems for submission any of my developer friends have experienced. Not saying the click and publish is a better way to run an app store, just noting it is more consistent in it's disqualifying criteria and faster, with a reliable expectation of when publishing will occur - being immediately. Of course this also means Google's store is just chock full of crap apps and bloatware.

Aside from that, I can almost guarantee that the hold up is based on wanting to launch simultaneously across all platforms, or at least as simultaneous as possible. Just imagine the storm "You hate Apple, you big meanies" threads and emails that would assuredly appear if someone was forced to wait for their iStore to show the app whilst the Android users we're running their mouths about how great or terrible the app is. I know I wouldn't want the head ache of even deleting those emails let alone reading them. I am sure it will be launched shortly.

The app went gold at the end of last week, meaning it is a final build to submit for release. That determination was likely made by Tinkerhouse. They then likely sent the RC (release candidate) to Privateer Press for final review. Assuming that they approve of the quality, Privateer Press will likely then submit the app to the various app stores today (ie "releasing" on 7/9/2012). The various app stores all have their own review processes, with Google Play being quite short, we could conceivably see WarRoom on Google Play (assuming PP submitted it there) today, but even with Google's process, there have been delays.

Also, releasing on 7/9/2012 means any time from 12:01am to 11:59pm.

I am a software development manager. I deal with this stuff every day. And like many companies, PP could use some better communications direction to better manage expectations, but if you know the process, everything appears to be going to plan.

Stupid question, If the haven't sold one bit of product (pretty sure no preoders on iapp store) how can the advertise the app "has gone gold"?

"Gold" is not a measure of sales in the software realm, but is one of readiness for sale.

I think the main reason people are less willing to forgive yet another delay is that this thing was supposed to come out in what? March or April originally? Then they said May. When the May deadline rolled around they bumped it back to July 9th. I think people are understandably annoyed that the day is half over and still no sign of the app.

Personally I can't wait to download it and start playing with it! (Checks Play Store again...)

We were promised a July 9th release. I'm not getting angry or upset, there's still around 14 hours Pacific time until July 9th is over. However, if they come out saying well we have to wait for the app store/marketplace approval then I will be very upset. That would just be poor planning on their part.

This should have been the biggest thing happening today at PP HQ, for them to have not planned better communication for today on what's happening is a severe misunderstanding of the level of excitement for this app. To me this entire process highlights a lack of fundamental project management skills, expectation management and effective communication.

My 2cents. Maybe it might get someones attention that they should chime in with an official update.

If you think for one second that if PP would release the Android App before the iOS App that there wouldn't be EPIC NERDRAGE, then you are sorely mistaken. Gamers are the most fickle group of individuals on the planet.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. If they'd have just created it as an iOS app in the first place instead of developing them at the same time, can you imagine?

Just relax. You will get to give them your money soon enough.
