    Default Painting Flesh

    Hi Folks

I am wondering where I can get some pointers in painting flesh. There are so many different techniques that I keep finding online and I am trying to find one as close as possible as to how I do mine. I mainly play Khador so I am mainly looking for techniques on painting that colour of flesh tone. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am trying to step up my A game with my painting techniques. Cheers.

I usually basecoat skin I do with dwarf flesh first (not sure what the new name is now with the new GW paint line). After that I add a bit of scorched brown and mixing medium to the dwarf flesh and turn it into a wash (add water until you can brush it across your palette and it's somewhat transparent). The wash is key here as it gets in the recesses and wrinkles of the skin. After those recessed parts look darker, go back over the raised portions with dwarf flesh again. After that just keep adding a little bit of elf flesh to the dwarf flesh and paint the lighter shades on the more raised portions until you get up to pure elf flesh. At this point only paint areas like raised cheek bones or tops of heads if they're bald (the butcher maybe? :P) or the ears. Hope this helps a little!

I go over just the female, as it's a more difficult subject. You could use the same techniques, just go a step down and use darker colours for men. So, no Ryn Flesh mixed with white; just stay with a few small extreme highlights using pure Ryn Flesh.

Use the same colours as Here, and the techniques in the videos, and you should be golden.

    Hi Folks

    Thank you for the response.

To Ghool, I mainly use Midlund Flesh, Ryn Flesh and I have Khardic flesh. I have heard some people will add in a drop of brown in their skin colour paints which brown would be best for Caucasian males? Will you be doing up a tutorial on painting male characters? I would be interested in seeing that. Cheers.

I've been using the "advanced face" from the Mercs book to great effect. However I just did Hawk and Ashlynn and I'm not liking it as much. I just watched the painting flesh with Ghool and his awesome paintiness, and I realize what I did. I used colors that are too dark. At the end of the part 1 first video "a man with deep tones" Yup that's what the problem was.

I'm half tempted to redo Hawk.

Basecoats and washes. Simple but effective, especially on rank and file. For characters basecoats, washes and layers help them stand out.

    +1 to this

This guy was done with base coat Ryn flesh, flesh wash and then back with Ryn and the Ryn+Little white for extreme highlights... Very fast to do and pretty effective on trooper models
