    Default Simple Green Stain Pewter?

I've been stripping some figures and notices after scrubbing off the paint the pewter ones are still slightly green... does Simple Green stain pewter or is it perhaps just a residue left over from the paint? It really looks greenish, so I'm pretty sure it's Simple Green. Is there any need to remove the stain and if so, how?

I don't normally buy pre-painted to strip but the deal was too good to pass up... now I'm regretting it. Would have been more worth my time to buy new and assemble myself.

Is the Greenish color uniform over the entire model or just in certain locations? I have never encountered a greenish discoloration after using SG or heard of anyone else having this problem. It could be the result of the the previous paint/primer used and the paint and primer were not compatible. I would suggest taking a model or piece of model with this discoloration, give it a good scrubbing in warm soap and water and give it a coat of primer. Let it cure for a couple of days and then test to see if it will scrap off.

I have seen lots of discolored minis after stripping. They still take primer just fine.

Ive never seen mine turn green but a strong darkening is common.

Another curious thing I have just noticed the Simple Green I was soaking them in lost most of it's deep green color. Maybe I got a a weird batch. Going to try and prime one of these guys anyway and see what happens.

Mine did that too. Its the primers and paints being broken down, perhaps even pulling the coloring down, im not a scientist though. The metal does it, the plastic does not.

If you leave a mini in simple green long enough the metal will corrode and begin to crumble. I left a WoO in simple green for more than a few months when I forgot he was in the stripping tub and he literally fell apart in my hands when I discovered discovered him at the bottom of the tub the next time I stripped a model.

As you will be priming and painting them... does it matter if the metal looks a little green? You are going to paint over it anyways... right?

I've had the darkening of the metal after stripping as well. I've never noticed a problem after priming and painting the miniature.

My concern was that the Simple Green had coated it with something that I couldn't get off with soap and water(which seems redundant now that I think about it... Simple Green is a cleaner, right?) that would prevent primer from sticking. Just going to go ahead and prime and see how it goes.

Indeed - Simple Green actually suds up under water. If you rinse your models and let them dry thoroughly, they should accept primer as well as any other model. Additionally, there won't be any mold release (many people, myself included, often forget to wash new models out of the blister).

This sounds odd to me I have put minis in a tub of simple green a forgot about them to the point when I went back all of the simple green had evaporated and the model was still fine. The darkening is normal and I have found that it holds paint even better than before.

Simple green does indeed stain pewter.
