Venethrax anyone?

was just wondering and looking at venethrax's tier lists and does anyone ever play this guy in tournaments? Or is it just for fun games? Here is a list i put together if anyone has experience or feed back please let me know if this is tournament worthy for 25 points.

I played a Tier 4 Hardcore tournament last year with Venethrax. My 35 point list was exactly like yours now except I added a second seether and added some two point model. For me this list was terrible because the Gorgers hate me. Gorger moved too slow for me, Mechs and Gorgers are too easily killed even with the surgeon. I never found the use for skarlock thrall, because soul harvester never needed to be passed around and if he was close enough the cast a spell he was close enough to die. As for the Tier, the Seether bonus is good, the cloud effects never really took effect because its only for the first round, Advance deploy is hard because you want gorgers to help screen venethrax, all of these bonus, in my mind, never made up for the lack of withershadow and banes.

Outside of the tier I use him alot in tournaments. I have a 50 pt. tourney this saturday:

The banes can do their own thing, but mostly they are there to attract attention while Venethrax, Darragh, Corbeau and withershadow get to the caster. Hopefully anti-infantry colossal will not make a big appearance.

A guy in our local meta has Venny down to a science. He uses soul harvest cycling and then spell assassinates with him. I have seen him rival Termmy in amount of souls on his person.

I have found I like to play venny with at least 1 infantry unit that can up there own accuracy to place soul harvester on. in my case I love Raiders+Ua. I also like taking some accurate shooting for accurate cloud creation for feat (resorting to using necrotechs but plan to get some mechnathralls for this purpose) as soon as I have 3+ souls i can start wading into centre board sacrificing every model at my disposal to A win at scenario B bring beasts in to cut them down C ram a PS16 sword through a caster Neck.

my only problem with venny is he bring no real debuffs/buffs to use and abuse. he needs an army that supports him. buffs for him and debuffs on his behalf. this is why I will always bring two WWS two pistols wraiths and the WSC with him.

I dislike skarlocks with venny preferring the withershadow combine to help with free upkeep and spending 1 focus on soul harvester when im not tanking or centerfeild

Two waves of Advance Deploy Bloodgorgers followed by the Black Ogrun Wall of Wounds. It's pure attrition.

It is frustrating, though, have no way to mitigate terrain.

i want to get good with him because he's one of my favourite models and i like his backstory but i find him tricky to use; caught between camping all his Focus, spellslinging when full of souls, and using him as a beatstick. One day i'll figure him out, hopefully sooner than later as my meta has more LoE per capita than the rest of the world combined (and this'll likely only get worse once the two player box comes out due to the fact that they're in it!).
