Clash for a Cure Storm Strider! by: CloudFang

Hey guys, been busy with a lot of other stuff outside of these forums lately but I wanted to start a thread for a very special project I agreed to. That being the painting of a Storm Strider for the Clash for a Cure tourney out in Texas. Both of my grandfathers have or have had cancer and Im sure you all know someone who has had to fight the fight. Im also very much into the community here that supports and gives back to the world at large. Some very heart oriented peeps up in here. Anyway this is what I have been working on for them, I believe it's to be some sort of prize or raffle? Not quite sure but it's for a great cause.

The storm strider itself is named the "Black Swan" and im working on a bunch of freehand black swans on the machine. Im one of those guys that plays legion, but knows that cygnar is really even more evil. I have also been listening to Thome Yorks album the Eraser and specifically the song titled black swan on repeat while I paint this so its pretty legit.

Anyway, I would love for some feedback or some thought into any direction you might rather see this thing go. Im in the beginning stages and have finished a photoshop mock up and started laying in some base coating so hit me up with some comments...

yup, swans even on the shoes! there are three on the storm ball... one front and center and two slightly larger to the sides....

something a little different for you cygnar fans... but dont worry i plan to have a touch of cygnar blue in there so it should match most cygnar schemes...

To answer Cloudfang's semi-question, this model and quite a few others you see gracing this thread are all to apart of Clash's Charity Raffle. Last year it was a big hit, so we expanded it quite a bit this year. I have painters from all over the US and several outside that have agreed to paint up models to go in the raffle.

Would you pay $10 for 5 chances to win this thing (tickets are $2)? I think I need to get my wife to come buy some tickets!

I just had an idea. . has anyone thought of making that ball suspended? With little arcs of energy from it to the arch? I would love to see one that could spin freely in a magnetic field like those picture cubes. Any ways, I like the emblems, might think of doing them by air brush if you do this again. But good job on them I really like them.

@phenious - your crazy man! - also air brush? i have a couple i just need to get one of those tiny compressors... yea.. atleast for base coats there is a LOT of surface area in the 110mm base models! It just takes forever by hand... but on the round surface im not sure it would have been easy to get the cygnussses painted with an airbrush? you would get a lot of overspray and stencils would be a pain in the arse on round surface?

@pg Ag - yea Black Swan.. with a name like that it will fit into any cygnar army color scheme.. y'know its supposed to be the odd duck... plus its littered with cygnus'es' ?

@stanislav !!! did you get this in? i was wondering when you would receive the package? i will try and send you an email or pm about the shipping.. i wrapped it like crazy!? was it in one piece? from CT to TX? Yea it does look pretty sharp in person. its got like 4 goats of gloss and 3 coats of dullcoat so it shouldnt chip and feel free to touch it..

@antig - ? they are doing ballet... look at those toe points!

Yep, it arrived. Pretty much intact. One of the drivers took a break from his post, but easy enough to fix. No chips or anything. One of the few models I have received in where there was some serious packing!

We are doing Malifaux for the next 3 or so weeks, you should stop in With two journeyman leagues coming up I won't have much other free time past that. Are you coming to Boost for a Cure?
