    Default Rahn List: Solo Heavy

    Hi everybody,

    Here is the list:
    Adeptis Rahn Shyeel +6

    Sphinx 7

Dawnguard Invictors (Leader and 9 Grunts) 10
Dawnguard Invictor Officer & Standard 2
    Soulless Escort 1

    House Shyeel Battle Mages 5
    Soulless Escort. 1

    Ghost Sniper x2 4
    House Shyeel Artificer 3
    House Shyeel Magister x2 4
    Mage Hunter Assassin x2 4

A very solo heavy list, the souless are just fillers.

What do you think? Any help would be great.

I am new to playing Rahn myself, but if you are going to take only one jack, you probably want it to be an arch-node. Extra angles for force hammers can help open up charge lanes for your MHA and Invictors.

You could drop the sphinx and the artificer and purchase a phoenix, who is one of Rahn's best friends. Other than that, Personally I would drop one each of the Ghost Sniper and MHA and pick up a Griffon to Marshal to the Invictors. That way they can get the flank bonus easier, and that makes them much better in melee than they are normally. Also, if you do go with a Phoenix, you could drop the Soulless that is with the battle mages, and pick up an arcanist.

Take what I say as you will, I believe if you want to run solo heavy, the list you have made is good. A little bit of everything and plenty that works with Rahn.

Just remember that point for point we have great solos, but they can die really easily. Which could make the list you made a little unforgivable.

Overall good list. I like the idea, and feel you would have fun playing it.

If you are going for solo heavy and Invictors I would play:

    Adeptis Rahn +6 points
    * Phoenix 10 points
    * Sylys Wyshnalyrr, The Seeker 2 points

    Arcanist 1 point
    10 Dawnguard Invictors 10 points
    * Invictor Officer & Standard 2 points
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution 3 points
House Shyeel Battle Mages 5 points
2x House Shyeel Magister 2 points each
2x Mage Hunter Assassin 2 points each

This is a good list. I assume that the Sphinx will get marshalled to the Invictors, but that's just me. I think you might want to look for some support for the Invictors, as I really see none, other than Polarity Shield.

I also see a little bit of a lack of heavy hitters. A heavy jack list will give these lists a run for their money.

I personally refuse to run them, but the Mage Hunter Strike Force, or Nyss hunters might help this list more than the Invictors.

I see Invictors going better with Ravyn or Ossyan, again just personal opinion.

Overall this list looks very good, and with all the Rahn love, feat turn will make your opponent really not like their life.

Thank you DrGiggles, your informative and well written advice has really helped me decide what units I am going to purchase.

The main reason I have Invictors in the list is because I personally like the models and want a solid flexible unit in the middle of my battle line. There is a little bit of support in the solo Artificer who can be surrounded by the unit giving them Force Wall: immunity to blast damage and a small buff to Def.

I agree that I am lacking heavy hitters but that is why the 2 MHA are must have's for me. Having a look at the products and jacks again I have decided to do with Discordia.

What are your thoughts on my 25 point list and what would your ideal list be?

    Edit:
I've changed the list radically for a few reasons, which of the following 3 25 point lists do you prefer:

    Rounded List
    Adeptis Rahn
    Chimera arc node
Discordia heavy hitter who can support the infantry with Kinetic Field
Dawnguard Invictors (Leader and 5 Grunts) tarpit unit to get in the way and draw ranged fire
House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
    2x Mage Hunter Assassin

    Or

    Support Heavy List
    Adeptis Rahn
    Chimera
    Discordia
    Sylys Wyshnalyrr, the Seeker
House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
    Arcanist
    House Shyeel Artificer
    2x Mage Hunter Assassin

    Or

    Magic Heavy List
    Adeptis Rahn
    Chimera
    Discordia
    Sylys Wyshnalyrr, the Seeker
House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
    2x House Shyeel Magister
    2x Mage Hunter Assassin

Hoping to make a purchase in the next couple of days as my airbrush and paints have been shipped. Thanks for any advice you give

To start off, all those list can be very good in the right situations. That being said at 25pts I play Rahn really magic heavy, this can really help set up charge lanes for the heavy hitters available, and feat turn is brutal. At 25pts a lot of people (at least at my FLGS) play very jack heavy, so being able to pull those out of the way pretty much whenever you want is a really fun thing to do (at least for you).

If you like the Invictors, than by all means use them. We are lucky in that our army has such incredible infantry options, so it is really hard to go wrong. Discordia is a good jack, from what I have read and she can destroy those pesky stealthed models quite easily (with a little focus of course).

Personally I would stay away from the support list, and go with one of the other two. The support heavy list just doesn't quite have enough staying power at 25pts IMO.

I think the other two lists are very viable, and you will have fun playing either of them.

Overall I will leave you with some personal advice, a 3 step process I use when buying models.
Step 1: If I like the look of the model I go to step two.
Step 2: If I like how the model is used in the game, or how it works in a list I go to step three.
Step 3: (this one is not necessary, but I always stick to it) If the model can be used in more than one list, or helps more than one army that I play (mercenaries/minions) I buy them.

Again this is all personal opinion, but for me it has helps when shelling out the kind of money this game requires.

Have fun, and go hunt some mages.
