Thread: Siege = Awesome

    Default Siege = Awesome

So, I've been playing Cygnar off and on for a while now. I've normally stuck to eHaley, pNemo, and Kara Sloan as my normal casters. Recently, because of leagues and various tournaments, I've started to branch out into other casters. Tonight, I played with Siege for the second time. I must say that I am sold. I haven't even started to make full use of his spells yet, but I'm loving him so far. I look forward to more games with what may now be my #2 favorite caster. I just want to say to any up-and-coming Cygnar players, that you shouldn't always judge a book by it's cover. I swore that I'd never play Siege, and I was definitely wrong not to try him.

I'm a bit puzzled, since just about everytime there's a rank the caster's thread Siege's name is usually at the top of the list. What put you off about him? Personally I find his playstyle boring, and using foxhole to gain LOS seems cheap to me somehow, but he's a solid solid caster.

I'm not really sure. I guess I just saw the guys at my LGS playing with him and felt that he was just a 'Trencher Caster'. No matter how many times I read what he did, I just kept thinking 'Ugh, I don't want to play trenchers'. Not really sure why. I'm glad I decided to step back and give him a shot though. I definitely see why he's a top level caster, and there aren't any trenchers in sight when I play him. LOL

I've always liked the way people assume he's just going to stand back and shoot. And then you introduce them to the smite hammer of doom. Siege is fun because he can handle the enemy at range and close up. He may not be the best spell caster or jack booster, but he sure can make the enemy cringe on his feat turn.

LOL! Don't believe the hype, trenchers aren't as horrible as they're often portrayed. I've already got a full unit from mkI, so I keep meaning to run Siege with them, plus some other additions, but I must admit I was surprised to see that he's got them in his theme list. I would have thought that Stryker1 or Haley1 would have been a more obvious choice for a trencher themed list.

It is interesting. I started off only liking Ecaine. Then I thought Sloan was da bomb. Then I tried Siege, and figured out that he is like Sloan, but on steriods. My love then turned EStryker and EHaley. Now I'm having a blast with PHaley and Darius. But when I'm serious, it is Siege/EStryker/Ehaley. I've not got my Kraye on yet. And I can not figure out Constance.

All the same with units. The ones I loved at first, I don't even think about anymore. Right now I'am having a field day with the Stealhead Halberdier's and Alexia (Risen/Thrall).

The lame or good part is that I own about 98% of cygnar and about 50 of cygars best solo/units (Mercenaries). And soooo many duplicates. I have 3 units of Gunmages. 4 Ironclads, for example.

Back to on topic. I like Siege as he is my shooter. He is tougher than Sloan. I like playing fast and agressive. That is why I like EStryker hand to hand and EHaley as she is flat out evil. It helps with character restrictions to. When you put Siege's bullseye on Tauter sauce, in the woods, and one of those arc nodes with Cryx, then your Stormwall and 2 Defenders light them up like Christmas, it is so much fun.

Agreed, I think he's great to learn Cygnar with, though I've learned that people have learned to counter him quite well. Oddly enough, most of the time, pHaley's feat turn does more damage than his.

Like Gr33nJ3llo I find him boring (at least in the standard Reinholdt, 2 x defender, ATGM + UA mold), but I like to bust him out from time to time.
Huh. Six months away from Cygnar and I've forgotten how to win... until Kara Sloan goes all 'bullet to the head' several games in a row. It's good to be back.

    Really? Why?

pHaley is Haley back when she's young and inexperienced. A woman who's gone from teenager working on a market stall to teenager-who-is-a-full-fledged-warcaster in a couple of years. She's never been anything in the military but a warcaster, and runs around like crazy that whole time, never bonding with any specific unit type. So she gets a longgunner theme, Cygnar's standard troops.

eHaley has spent years on the northern border. For most of that time the only warcaster at northguard, fighting off constant attacks by Khador, sometimes holding out 3-1 until Nemo can get all the way across the country to help. Also at Northguard are the Gravediggers, and their commander Captain Finn. Who'd be one of the few people immediately subordinate to Haley. So that's theme 1. Theme 2 reflects that she was a Journeyman under Nemo, and is now his go to girl.

pStryker a former stormblade and is the poster boy of THIS IS WHAT A WARCASTER IS. He is mister basic warcaster, so he gets all the prime (I.E the basics) stuff.

Siege however was a trencher for YEARS before he was a warcaster and has always been mister poor bloody infantry commander, just look at his old rules/fluff. He makes the most sense out of anyone.
    Damn you, Cthulhu.

I never really could make a really competetive list with Siege.

What does ppl that say he is very competetive play him with?

On paper he always looks cool and so on but i never could get him to work..

I've been playing Cygnar for a couple of months now and have been using pStryker and ENemo.
But I've just recently finished painting Brisbane and have been using him. I've lost every game
so far, which is a big let down, He is a really cool character, and I want to give him the benefit
of the doubt, and give him another chance. What's the best stuff to use with him? Jacks, Units, Solos?
    And any Mercs?

Siege was my go to guy.

He has a very straight forward toolkit, with a few tricks and all of them are highly effective. He has the answer to most any problem that can present itself on the table top.

He was always in my SR lists as my "answer" list.

    Siege
    Squire
    Cyclone

    ATGM +UA
    Defender

    PK (min)+UA
    B13
    Reinholt

Good anti troop with Siege's groundpounder+B13 magestorm+high rat shots all that don't care about stealth or incorporeal.
Good armor removal with feat plus two shots from Siege+charge 4 dice PKs.
Good control with pushes, LOS drops, and 2 covering fire templates.

Siege was the second caster I played (Sloan was first) and even though I played him as a ranged threat my first game, I liked how differently I had to play the list. On any given turn Sloan is all about where she puts her shot, but Siege is more about "ok that unit needs some cover, I've got to kill that stealthy model there (Mage Sight), and this enemy unit is slowly creeping up trying to flank me so...Ground Pounder! I love how much he does to shape the battlefield.

Any of our CRA units are great for feat turn and before, Defenders are top on his list for 'jacks but I usually throw a Sentinel in too (to ward off the occasional shots and some infantry). I almost always take a Gunmage Adept because he can go out further than Siege to hunt solos and UAs and his gun can do nasty damage reliably.

I personally don't like the CRA units with Siege for 2 reasons. 1 then are some of our most overpiced units and 2 i feel their static nature runs counter to Siege's ability and want to play mid field to apply his firepower and feat.

I always played him very aggresively. Move forward, cobering fire blatant counter moves, groundpounder amd ATGM stealth flankers, amd pose more threats than they can deal with. You can't sit back with Siege comfortably. He is a caster that has an answer to everything so instead of responding to every threat why not remove it before it becomes.a question to be answered.

It is always better to pose the questions than answer them.

Siege is super effective and I don't own any other trenchers so I wouldn't label him a trencher caster. Oh sure he's a trencher in the fluff and somewhat in the spell list, but you don't have to take trenchers with him. Siege is great because he has an answer to a lot of different issues. Ground Pounder ignores a lot of things, he can easily make ranged shots magical, he can foxhole to get los... etc.

I just find playing him rather boring. I used to use him all the time in the beginning... but I rarely play him nowadays. It just seems like every turn you judge distance and decide whether or not to feat... then either you do or you don't. Otherwise you just shoot at a few things and go on to next turn. :P I am however making up a Siege melee list instead of the normal 2 defender list. maybe that will mix things up and give him some new life for me.
