    Default Trog Talk

So NQ43 had some insight into Bog Trogs for the IKRPG and I must say I was pleasantly pleased with the small snip it we got for them and the possible implications it could have for future Blindwater releases, especially Rask.

From the article Bog Trog Ambushers remain pretty much the same. They don't seem to have rules for ambush or reach that I could see in the RPG but stat wise everything else is there.

The new things are Bog Trog Anglers, Mist Weaver, and Big Fish. Anglers are the ranged option of trogs sporting both thrown tridents and nets. The Mist weavers are the shamans giving boundless charge and concealment out. Finally Big Fish are the chieftans and they pack quite a punch. They have a sword and shield and plenty of melee special abilities.

So for Rask we can assume like the other gator warlocks that he started out as a shaman of sorts. That means likely spells are boundless charge and fog of war. I think these spells would be a great addition to Blindwater and as long as he had some offensive buff skill/spell/feat he'd be awesome in my book.

I for one hope to see a unit of Bog Trog Anglers added to the game sooner than later however with shamblers coming in I would think we're probably a couple of books away from seeing them.

The Big Fish I would like to see as an attachment to any bog trog unit and have him add his melee prowess and hopefully some nice buffs to the unit.

Go pick up NQ43 lots of good stuff in there.

While I doubt that entry was meant to be anything more than cool monster info for the RPG, on the assumption that it did foreshadow new Trogs, here's my thoughts:

Anglers: Either an Ambushers Weapon Attachment (thrown nets causing Knockdown, Assault, and tridents), or a unit unto themselves (unlikely considering the Shamblers, but maybe a 6-man or smaller unit?)

Mist Weaver - Magic Ability solo, and if the sample stat line means anything, a SPD buff or some kind of concealment spell?

Big Fish - Bog Trog UA or combat solo most likely.

Interesting information. Im wondering if Rask was a Angler before discovering his warlockdom. Might explain the trident gun he has.

It's not gators or fit with the Cajun theme, so I find it all extremely disappointing.

I would enjoy the Big Fish as a UA for the Ambushers. And I would prefer the Anglers be their own unit if they were to be put into the table top game. As far as the magical solo guy, not sure on that, we just got a magical solo in the form of the witch doctor.

Angler UA to Trogs with Ambush (to go with) that grants Hunter as well as a Knockdown Assault Net would make them even more manoeuvrable.
Extra scary would be a Harpoon/Trident with Assault and Drag. Think you're safe in the middle....

As much as I hate to say it the Cajun theme has been abandoned for a full on undead gator theme. Even the witch doctor looks less like a voodoo priest and more just like some random magic using gator.

Ive never thought of the gators as a Cajun and more as Voodoo which doesn't mean just Cajun. Many of the islands like Caribean islands like Haiti have voodoo in their cultures as well. And voodoo has a lot to do with the undead. Voodoo is one of the original sources for modern day zombies after all.

Blindwater is still all voodoo. Like Zwaggs33 stated, voodoo is where the iconic zombie comes from. White Zombie was the first real movie that brought to life what we think of zombies today and it was based off of Haitian voodoo. Calaban is based around the living zombies with his arc node shot and boneshaker, and the bonegrinders in his theme force may be another set of Zombies for him. Maelock, the Witch Doctor, and the Shamblers, along with the bone swarm are more heavily based in the unyielding hordes of rotting zombies. The entire faction sort of deals with all varieties of voodoo, from Cajun to Haitian to Hollywood. Plus the new Bog Trog is extremely bayou hunter type, fitting in with that whole deep swamp vibe. To me all of these odd, quirky factors mesh in to one big group of Bokor loaded badness.

I've always been a lover of voodoo of all sorts and that has been the draw that brought me into Blindwater now being my main faction.

I agree with all the above, being a Cajun myself the whole voodoo thing is great for the gators and I love it, but it's not Cajun. Sure, we have a little cultural cross over with knowledge of things like the gris gris and le grand zombi, but it's two seperate cultures sharing the same geographical location. I actually think of the swamp gobbers as the Cajuns in the Iron Kingdoms equation.

Wasn't Big Fish technically the name of the unit leader from back in MK I? I could've sworn it was.

    Yes, it was.
The cycle we go through with every release:
1st stage - reveal - Wow! Look at the new toys.
2nd stage - spoilers - Booo! They're not as awesome as I imagined!
3rd stage - actual play - Okay, this thing's (usually) not awful.

Boundless charge and fog of war.... great i play gators to get away from Khador not be just like them. I hope this is not the case but it could be cool with the whole undead theme.

Semi-Necro but I think a Sorcha1 (different feat as Barnabas has a better feat) in Blindwater might be very interesting.
