Default Finding full-on respect for the Gun Carriage

So I had my first game with the gun carriage today.

The list I was trying it with wasn't very good, but it performed really admirably (against a bane-heavy Goreshade 1 list).

The high movement is a huge deal, and the trample options give it an impressive threat range. It is particularly refreshing after struggling with our jacks, and seems to fill the spot of a second jack without needing too much focus, generally rampaging around, and punishing anything without pathfinder.

My list was bad, but was put together hastily the night before on the rationale of "I have this new model, lets find a caster it works with, and then fill out points."

    Irusk 2
    Gung Ho Carriage
    Behemoth
    WGI with everything
    Aiyana & Holt
    Wardog

Now in retrospect I should have maybe tried Black Ivan instead of Behemoth, have some more points to take something like Manhunter, but I don't have Black Ivan. Maybe I should have stopped obsessing about AOEs and take Beast (for a broader melee threat) and a Manhunter, just to have a few more models to contest things and get in the way. Wardog is also in here just because I had a spare point after taking everything I wanted, and Sylys was in the second list.

Fire for Effect is a really imposing trick with the carriage with the ruling that all the blast damage is also boosted. So maybe I have an unduly rosy perception of having just played a game with it, but does anyone else have experiences to share with it, and/or get a feel that the gun carriage gives us much of what a second jack gives factions able to properly support one?

My experience with it has been pretty positive as well. Even without FFE, any sort of accuracy or damage buff (S&P, HoF, Fortune, some feats) makes it pretty scary, and as you say it doesn't really take focus. I like it a lot actually. Definitely fills a ranged jack kind of role, although it doesn't have close to the same survivability.

14 less boxes does seem lame, but it has no systems to ruin, and you can hide a whole mess of mechaniks behind it

It's pretty sweet. It's very mobile, and unless you're fighting Baldur or something those cannons are always going to have some very juicy targets to shoot at. I like it a lot, its a great alternative for someone like me who prefers low model count armies (and hates painting infantry :P )

I like it. Mangled a storm clad on the charge and with FFE almost one shotted eHaley in one turn.

I bought my Gun Carriage and converted it into a tank as a fluff piece for my Strakov Kommando Force, and I've loved the two games I played with it. For me it's a versatile piece that even when I flub up with it (I failed a charge into some pSkarre ultra feated Bane Thralls even with Signs and Portents up) the points committed by my opponent to take it down frees up a large portion of my force.

I love the heck out of it, and I'm eager to see how it'll interact with my conquest.

You really have to take advantage of the cavalry rules do get the impact of this model. Ride-by-attacks really allow the GC to do it's job while keeping a safe distance between it an other threats. My favorite tactic is firing the AOEs at low DEF models w/o pathfinder such as jacks or beasts. I love the hit and runs aspect of it.

    just played the following game

    Harkenvich
    Black Ivan
    2 Spriggans
    2 Gun Carriages
    Min Mechaniks
    Koldun Lord
    Epic Eiryss

    Vrs

    Epic Baldur
    Megalith
    Wold Guardian
    Woldwyrd
    Blackclad
    Fulcrum
    Druids with UA
    Gallows Grove
    Shifting stones with UA
    Shifting Stones
    Lord of feast

It was an epic game, Hark got set on fire and smacked by lord of feast in turn 1! but the combo of carriages and Spriggan removed the fulcrum and Megalist in the next turn (Stone Beast are so hard) Baldur removed one gun carriage in hand to hand with ease in the following turn.

My other carriage got bogged down fighting the Woldwryd - this woldwryd was the bane of my Carriage immune to knock down and decent Defence for a stone beast, not bad for a 5 point beast.

I lost this game but it was so close, Balder had 1 wound left but the carriages were so much fun to play but the Spriggans totally out performed them during the game sadly Black Ivan did not.

Mental note must remove Druids asap became game winners for my opponent late game.

all of my experience with the GC is very positive. Even on the games I lose the GC it serves it's purpose dishing out hate and discontent with 4" pie plate of roughness terrain and blast damage and allows my jacks to get the alpha because the opponent wants to hate on the GC. Last game I was playing Irusk 1 list like this:

    Khador
    Standard Army
    PCs: 35 / 35
    24 models

    [00] Kommandant Irusk (0 / 6 WJ remaining)
    [10] >> Spriggan
[08] Iron Fang Pikemen (9 grunts)
    [02] >> Black Dragon Officer & Standard
    [03] Kayazy Eliminators
    [09] Gun Carriage
[07] Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (5 grunts)
    [02] >> Koldun Kapitan Valachev

I wound up taking out half of a full unit of Lord Arbiter Hexeris' Praetorian 'Swordsmen' Unit + UA in one turn with the Gun carriage and Spriggan's grenade launchers. It kept the praetorians locked down due to rough terrain and allowed my black dragons free range on the left flank due to him diverting most of his force to the battle with the GC on the right. GC then got off a trample (barely by about 1/4") and then tried to get the assassination but could not do enough damage so the spriggan got the kill.
