Today was the New England Team Tournament! I was captain of Three Men and a Baby Titan, the Hobby Bunker team. I was playing Skorne, and these were my two lists:
Lord Arbiter Hexeris (*6pts)
* Bronzeback Titan (10pts)
* Tiberion (11pts)
* Titan Gladiator (8pts)
Nihilators (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Reinforcements: Archidon (7pts)
Dominar Rasheth (*5pts)
* Basilisk Drake (4pts)
* Bronzeback Titan (9pts)
* Titan Gladiator (7pts)
Gatormen Posse (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts)
Nihilators (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
Paingiver Beast Handlers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Agonizer (2pts)
Paingiver Task Master (2pts)
Reinforcements: Titan Gladiator (7pts)
(this list was Tier 2 hence cheapy Titans).
First round was Diversion-- Radial deployment, have to score on a flag while contesting a zone. My opponent was playing Cryx, either Terminus or pDenny. Thoughts: Eff. I loaded up on anti-living tech hoping not to run into Cryx. Skorne in general hates Cryx, with the exception of Zaal, and I was not excited about this opportunity. I decided to run eHexy because he's more toolboxy. Gladiator gets the bond.
His list:
Warwitch Deneghra (*5pts)
* Nightwretch (4pts)
* Deathjack (12pts)
* Skarlock Thrall (2pts)
Bile Thralls (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
Mechanithralls (Leader and 9 Grunts) (5pts)
Necrosurgeon & 3 Stitch Thralls (2pts)
The Withershadow Combine (5pts)
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist (2pts)
Pistol Wraith (3pts)
I get turn one. I deploy my Titans in the middle of the radius, with the Nihilators "below" them (closer to my side of the table) and Hexy and the Agonizer behind them. Everything else is in the back. My turn one I load up the agonizer, Ashen Veil the Nihilators, and everything runs. His turn one likewise everything runs. Bile thralls are on my left, McThralls on the right, with the support clustered in the middle behind DJ and the pistol wraith drifting right.
My turn two is a cautious advance, Nihilators dangle invitingly in front of DJ. Agonizer shuts down his allocation and channeling. Hexy takes up a position behind a wall where he will sit all game. Ashes to Ashes kills Admonia and does some damage to the Nightwretch.
His turn two is brutal. The Pistol Wraith shoots Tiberion twice for no damage and, luckily, misses the Death Chill (double ones). Denny moves up and feats, catching... everyone. Gorman blinds my Gladiator, the biles advance and one Purges, killing one Nihilator and corroding another. The DJ eats two Nihilators, claiming their souls, and the McThralls account for a few more. I have about 4 left at this point. I'm a little hazy on exact Nihilator count this game. One gets killed by a Soulfire from a Withershadow guy.
On my turn 3, corrosion vanishes, Tiberion smushes the now corporeal Pistol Wraith with his Tetsubo. Nihilators walk up and kill three or four McThralls, futilely. One engages Gorman and two engage DJ. Hexeris activates and earns his paycheck. He Ashes to Ashes a Bile Thrall, bouncing four times. The bounces ping off of Denny, kill a Skarlock, blow the arc node off the bonejack, and kill another Bile. The guy originally targeted lives with a snake eyes damage roll, so I feat, pull the souls off of DJ, and do it again. This time it kill three biles, pings off Denny, damages the arc node more, and kills Gorman. We later learn Gorman is fire immune and ignores Ashes, but frankly at this point he was engaged with two MAT 7 POW 12 Nihilators so good luck bro. Hexy smiles to himself. The Bronzeback moves into a threatening posture and the Agonizer shuts down allocation to DJ.
On his turn, he Crippling Grasps the glad, Ghostlies DJ and walks into the forest. DJ walks over to the Titan and scraps it. The Bile runs into position to block a charge from the Bronzeback. The McThralls charge Tiberion and put a little hurt on him, the Withershadow Combine charge a Nihilator but both miss him, and the remaining McThralls attack Nihilators a bit, killing one or two. The Necrosurgeon makes three more McThralls.
My turn, I Enrage Tiberion and the Bronzeback and send two Paingivers after the bile, who kill it easily. Thusly cleared the Bronzeback charges DJ and pulls him apart like a wishbone. Nihilators continue to kill recurring McThralls. Tiberion crit slams Maelvolus into Tremulus, killing both, and kills another McThrall. Hexeris... does something, I don't remember what, but probably not Ashes to Ashes. I think he heals Tiberion some.
His turn, Denny Ghostlies herself, walks over and Crippling Grasps Tiberion. The McThralls charge and five make it in. Five combo strikes bring him down, almost exactly. The Necrosurgeon makes three more and some Stitch/Mcthralls run to block off Denny.
My turn is nice and simple. I Enrage the Bronzeback and move some Paingivers into position. Ashes to Ashes into my own guy kills a Paingiver (second PG death of the game) and, importantly, both thralls blocking BB's charge path to Denny. He charges, gives himself Train Wreck, and tusks a Stitch Thrall to death, Beating Back into Denny. Two boosted fist attacks put her in the ground.
WINNER: Skorne
MVP: Ashes to Ashes
LVP: Tiberion, for getting killed by McThralls.
So I won a game against my worst matchup. I am pumped and I move on to the second opponent. It's a Merc player with Ashlynn and Damiano. I take Rasheth, since I don't want to lock myself into him for the rest of the game. It's Incursion! He's running:
Captain Damiano (*6pts)
* Rocinante (9pts)
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt (4pts)
Steelhead Halberdiers (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Steelhead Heavy Cavalry (Leader and 2 Grunts) (6pts)
Steelhead Riflemen (Leader and 9 Grunts) (9pts)
Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile (2pts)
Ogrun Bokur (3pts)
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord (2pts)
I go second. Gators go on the left, Nihilators just behind them. Gladiator on the right, Bronzeback in the middle, Drake also sort of in the middle. Support stuff behind them.
He runs everything up and puts Sure Foot on Rocinante and Warpath on Damiano. Steelhead Halbs get Tough. Dam, Roc, and the cav are behind a wall, with Aiyana and Holt and support friends in a cluster in the middle. Riflemen are on my right.
I run Gators up and make them terrifying. Nihilators behind them. Beasts go up the middle, with Glad peeling off right. Gators get Carnivore and I use one to drop a Breath of Corruption on five Halbs, killing three of them. I think. Center flag disappears.
He moves forward and Harms the gators. Cav pop out and do ride bys, hurting a couple of them. Between them the Halbs and Rocinante kill one more. He Money Shots the Riflemen and they kill the two damaged Gators. Can't clear all the Nihilators from around the flag. Death March goes on Halbs.
Agonizer runs up to deny Roc focus. Drake gets Rushed and Sprays, killing a Rifleman and Master Holt. Aiyana is so distraught by her boyfriend's death she fails a command check and flees. Nihilators charge both Steelhead units, killing a couple Riflemen but no Halbs due to Set Defense. My memory is really hazy here. I remember that the Bronzeback used Beat Back to put the fear of Elephant Jesus into the Riflemen, killing quite a few. Gatormen charge the Cav and kill one, even at DEF 17 (Sure foot + attacking over wall) due to Carnivore and rerolls, and being POW 15. Rasheth feats this round and I can't remember what I arced-- pretty sure it was a Breath of Corruption-- this might have been what killed Holt instead of the spray.
He feats in retaliation and kills both of my Gators, one with Cav and one with Rocinante, who Quick Work shoots the Drake. Riflemen get Money Shot and Deadeye and kill the Aggy off, as well as putting some damage on the Drake. Nihilators continue to trade blows with Halbs. At this point we are equal on points-- Rhupert is holding his flag-- and so we each score each turn, so nobody wins. Aiyana rallies.
My turn I really badly want to kill the cav, but can't quite manage it, reducing one to one box and leaving the other untouched. Drake sprays through Steelheads and kills a couple, one or two more die to a BoC (the one that couldn't kill the cav). Bronzeback kills more Riflemen and they flee, only to rally shortly.
He Harms the BB and realllllly wants to get cav into it, but all of his effort can't clear all the stuff in the way so he settles for beating on Nihilators. That's pretty much it. My memory is really really bad here.
Bronzeback gets Enraged, charges Aiyana, pastes her and Beats Back into Rocinante, which he procedes to punch into near-oblivion and chain throw into a horsey, killing the cav and leaving Roc with one movement box remaining. Halbs are all but wiped out and flee, not being fearless this turn as Rhupert piped Pathfinder on the cav when he thought he would charge.
Damiano charges the badly damaged Bronzeback (which for the life of my I cannot remember where it took that damage) and kills it with no Focus to spare. Halbs rally. Rifleman rallies-- yeah he was fleeing for some reason.
Rasheth arcs Sunder Spirit through a Paingiver onto Rhupert, hosing him off the zone and claiming victory for the Skorne!
WINNER: Skorne
MVP: Breath of Corruption
LVP: Gladiator, for sitting on its fat butt on an objective all game and not rolling a single die. Alternatively, Gatormen, for dying too fast, but that's their job.
Alright, not bad. My teammates won their games that round too, so it was a clean sweep (they both lost Round 1 so our team lost that round). We're not in the running for first but I didn't expect to be.
Round three is against the eventual third-place finishers. It's a Reinforcements scenario, Bunkers. My opponent plays Circle and one of his lists is eKrueger plus druids, which in a small-zone game=bad news, so I take Hexy for Tiberion. I get first turn and deploy Nihilators on the right, beasts in the middle (behind an area of shallow water) and support behind them. He turns out not to be playing eKrueger after all and pulls out:
Baldur the Stonesoul (*5pts)
* Woldwatcher (5pts)
* Megalith (11pts)
* Woldguardian (9pts)
Druids of Orboros (Leader and 5 Grunts) (7pts)
* Druid of Orboros Overseer (2pts)
Shifting Stones (2pts)
Blackclad Wayfarer (2pts)
Blackclad Wayfarer (2pts)
Reinforcements: Stones + UA, LOTF
His beasts go in the middle, druids on my right, one wayfarer on each side and Stones in the middle.
I run forward and Ashen Veil the Nihilators. Beasts get Rush so they can splash around happily in the puddle. Bronzeback peels left to contest his zone.
He runs forward, elemental immunity (no Ashes to Ashes for me this game), Counter Magic etc. Rock Wall (eff that spell) in the middle, blocking any possible lane.
My reinforcement Archidon comes on and eats a Wayfarer. CAW! My Nihilators run up some more, getting closer to Druids. I play conservatively in the puddle, deciding to let him come to me, and putting up Bump on Tiberion.
His Woldwatcher comes forward and Stone Forms like a little **** in front of Tiberion. He tries to tempt me with some Counter Charges vs his Wayfarer but I'm not throwing away my Titan. His LOTF gets placed ahead, shoots a Paingiver, and kills two PGs with his sword, resulting in the unit crying and fleeing. *****es. Druids attempt to shoot some magic at Nihilators but it turns out DEF 15 is pretty hard to hit. He doesn't charge any Titans, puts up Jackhole Jerk Wall, Roots of the Earth on the Watcher and Crevasses down a couple Nihilators. Turns out DEF 15 doesn't present a problem when you can boost.
My Bronzeback turns around and swallows the LOTF whole. Nihilators charge and thanks to some spectacularly bad rolling kill exactly one druid. And it's not the UA. Eff. Archidon frenzies and pitches one more into the overseer, unfortunately not killing him (leaving him with one box, though!) Tiberion puts up Bump and pushes the Woldwatcher around, but without Enrage I'm at dice-6 and I need to save two to Bump so not too much damage. PGs rally at least.
He armlocks Tiberion's Tetsubo and is then able to charge the Wold Guardian past safely into the Gladiator, badly effing up its world but not taking out its Spirit at least. His stones get closer to the left zone, but there's nothing there that can kill a BB. He feats, I believe, not catching the Guardian but everyone else.
Tiberion frees his Tetsubo and batters on the Watcher, sadly not taking out its Mind but taking out Body at least. Wheeeee. Nihilators get only slightly more success vs Druids, and Archidon completely poops the bed, killing only one druid with four fury. Also I move Hexy away from him so guess he's frenzying again. I forget that forcing to stand up is in Control phase so Gladiator can't get Enraged (he's KD'd) and standing up he pounds on the Guardian, doing some damage but not crippling or killing it. Hexy Hellfires it, Bumps the Glad, feats to steal his Fury, then tries to Hellfire it again but misses, walking away to avoid retaliation and healing beasts up a bit. The Guardian pinballs around with Bump, killing the Glad and hurting Tiberion. Megalith animuses and walks behind to help finish the Glad off (I think), threatening Hexy. Watcher weaponlocks Tiberion again. Stones shift to contest left side zone, Druids kill some Nihilators. Baldur Ground Zeroes to push my stuff away from his stuff and kills a Nihilator.
Archidon frenzies again and eats another druid. Nihilators hit Baldur for little damage-- there's like two left at this point. Bronzeback smushes two shifting stones, Hexy heals Tiberion and runs away. Tiberion smashes the Watcher into powder and Bumps himself.
Baldur Ground Zeroes again and walks towards Hexy to get him in Control. Megalith tramples over towards him, puts up his animus and buys two attacks. Both roll very low on damage and Hexy eats it-- he's sitting on two transfers anyways. Wold Guardian is full, he couldn't leach from him last turn, but he punches Tiberion out of spite and is bumped away. He left the zone so I score on it, then I score again in my turn for three points and the game.
WINNER: SKORNE
MVP: Tiberion, for never effing dying, and also Bump.
LVP: Nihilators, for extending that game by at least two turns by failing to kill druids and clear the zone.
My fourth game is against Menoth. He's running this eFeora list:
Feora, Priestess of the Flame (*6pts)
* Redeemer (6pts)
* Reckoner (8pts)
* Templar (8pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Holy Zealots (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
* Holy Zealot Monolith Bearer (2pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)
His reinforcements are Saxon Orrik and a KE unit.
Scenario is Outflank, Outfight, Outlast. I go first and deploy Gators on right, Nihilators on left, beasts in the middle, with the Drake farthest right. He deploys Zealots on my left, jacks in the middle, with Reckoner on the right and a Vassal on each side. Eiryss is far on the right with Gorman and some stuff in the middle with Feora.
My turn one, Gatormen run like the dickens forward, as does PGTM and everything else, really. Carnivore on Gators, five in Agonizer.
He runs Zealots forward in a professional spread formation, no magic, and runs everything else up Eiryss shoots Carnivore off the Gatormen. Escort up obviously, Redeemer takes some shots and kills one Nihilator, lighting another on fire.
My turn, fire goes out. Reinforcement Gladiator kills Eiryss, Gatormen run to engage his stuff (including Redeemer). Drake gets Rushed and moves forward and Sprays, killing Gorman and a Vassal, putting 4 on Feora, and damaging the Redeemer, but not badly. Nihilators run to engage Zealots. I plan to meatnode Sunder Spirit and kill the Monolith, but forget about Warding. I Blood Mark the Templar instead. Beasts advance, Agonizer forgets to do anything.
His turn, Reckoner kills one Gatorman (I think). Redeemer spews out rockets and sets Rasheth on fire, doing no damage otherwise. Zealots GD and run to jam. Knights attempt to charge Nihilators, fail and run. Saxon runs.
My turn, Titan frenzies and fails to charge a Gatorman. Gatormen get +2 STR and go to town. They fail to hit Feora even with rerolls but do serious damage to the Reckoner, killing its mushroom mace. One Gator catches fire for getting too close to Feora. BB walks into the Templar and smushes it to paste, and I don't pay attention to his facing so the whole center of the board is in his back arc. Huge stupid mistake #2. Nihilators kill a KE, Rasheth arcs BoC to kill two more and feats. Camps on one fury (huge, stupid mistake). Agonizer runs and bubbles, catch everyone. Drake moves and sprays, ripping off Redeemer's gun and killing the other Vassal. Gladiator moves away from Rasheth, leaving lane clear, to protect him from dumb stupid zealots (huge, stupid mistake #3).
His turn, badly damaged Redeemer walks away from Gatormen, taking a free strike from MAT 9 that misses on double ones. Rocket fired at BB, deviates perfectly onto a Zealot and two Nihilators, killing neither (I actually wish I had left its arm alive!) but killing the zealot. Five fires now on the table. Feora Fire Steps out, walks 6" pops feat, and casts three boosted Convections into Rasheth, rolling 12, 11, and 11 for damage. He transfers one but is in serious trouble now. She sprays him, needing a four or more on 1d6 to kill. Comes up 5 and that's game.
WINNER: Menoth
MVP: Drake, killing support solos and Redeemers like a boss.
LVP: Me, for leaving the caster with the worst defensive stats in the game super effing exposed.
The assassination was a total Rube Goldberg machine and he exactly pulled it off-- one thing different and none of it would have worked-- one less fire on the board, one more transfer on Rasheth, one miss, one bad damage roll, one model in the way. But was brilliant and it worked and I have to give it to him. I had him dead to rights, his army was in tatters and mine was almost untouched. Feora was also like 5" from an undamaged Bronzeback and nobody lies to be in that position.
Overall my team went 2-2. First round I won, they lost; second round we all won; third round I won, they lost; fourth round, I lost, they won. We got sweet bandanas and stories that will last a lifetime.
Pics taken from fourth game will be uploaded when I can bring myself to care enough. Starving now, must eat.

), Counter Magic etc. Rock Wall (eff that spell) in the middle, blocking any possible lane.
