Red face Seeking Army Composition Advice

    Greetings.

Skip to red text for pointed questions.

    I currently own:
    • Annyssa Ryvaal
    • x3 Raptors
    • Angelius
    • x2 Shredder
    • x1 Sheperd
    • x1 Heavy Warbeast Kit (Can be Carn, Scyth, or Ravagore heavy beasts)
    • x1 Swamp Gobbbers

I love Angelius and Raptors to death, those being the two models that got me to choose legion as my faction. From here I'm looking to expand to 35pt lists and I'd like some advice on what my next few purchases should be to get the most enjoyment out of my army lists as possible.

I come from a 40k background, and am not very interested in using a lot of (if any) troops/units. However, all the troop choices that LoE have access to seem to be extremely potent with their respective UAs and with spawning vessels. If anything, I would want to limit my army to 1 unit (besides raptors), being either striders or probably hex hunters.

I use Vayl, eVayl, Saeryn, and eventually will get Absylonia.

From my current models I'm looking to add either another Angel, a Seraph, Typhon, or another HWB kit for carn/rav/scyth, and sneaking in lessers/solos as needed.

    List #1
    • Annyssa Ryvaal -- 4
    • x3 Raptors -- 6
    • Angelius -- 9
    • Ravagore -- 10
    • Seraph -- 8
    • Shredder -- 2
    • Sheperd -- 1

This is a total of 40pts, and depending on my selection of caster, brings it to 34/35pts. This list focuses a lot on shooting, almost enough that I feel Lylyth or eLylyth could use the list well. With this list I probably had pVayl in mind, using her feat and incite to get more turns than I should of high POW shooting before I chiller+incite charge in with Angel + raptors etc. for the kill. When looking at this theoretical list, I feel that it is weak. Fury management shouldnt be a problem but with Vayl and eVayl & Saeryn, I feel like i need more meaty, powerful beasts such as Typhon, Carniveans/Scytheans to take advantage of feats/ high dmg alpha strike spells. Even adding in an Angelius instead of the Seraph makes me feel like the list will be stronger for eVayl and Saeryn because of their synergy with the Angels precision strikes and mobility.

    List #2
    • Annysaa Ryvaal -- 4
    • Angelius -- 9
    • Ravagore -- 10
    • Typhon -- 12
    • Shredder -- 2
    • Forsaken -- 2
    • Sheperd -- 1

This list totals to 40pts as well, meaning it is once again 35/34pts depending on the caster; and I would likely throw in Swamp gobbers if its a 6 WarBeastPts caster.
Losing my 3 furry (not fury : P) Raptors makes me a little sad, but their roles as anti infantry should be covered by Typhon & the addition of a Forsaken. Even though I drop one of my favorite units, I actually feel like this list works much better with my current casters, and I can see it accomplishing the dmg it needs to do on feat/alphastrike turns.

You can see where I'm headed with my lists, and I would love to hear from you guys to see what you think I should do in terms of army composition to further my force. Please give me any and all advice or thoughts you have so that I can make the best decision for my next purchase. I've been scouring here, dakkadakka, chainattack, youtube, miniwargaming & LoE blogs for the last week or so absorbing and reading all your guys' wonderful guides and threads so I'm looking forward to some tailored advice.

    Summary

Is the Serpah's Animus + shooting worth taking it over an Angelius for Vayl, eVayl, or Saeryn?
Are 2 Angelius, 1 Ravagore, and Raptors+Annyssa strong enough to wreck in CC once my enemy closes the distance?
Typhon is amazing with Vayl, and is a very strong beast but costs a LOT of points, especially @ 35pts, he is a big investment. With my chosen warlocks, do you guys think hes worth getting over another heavy warbeast?

    Thank you!

The seraph costs too much and does too little damage output at 35 points.

They are with pVayl, I run her with ravagores because they become 7/18 once the enemy closes. Otherwise they are not even close to able for it.

I'd get another heavy, Typhon is a lot of points and money and only fits in some lists, magnetise a heavy dragonspawn kit and you'll get serious mileage for your money/points.

Always use Scytheans for combat. Typhon functions as a guard dog with pVayl's Dark Sentinel ability. Annyssa should be avoiding combat since she has no melee weapon besides her mount. However, the Raptors can be sent in to clean up as they're weapon masters. I can't comment on the Seraph since I've yet to use one because I hate the model.

The slots (and points) where I'd have Scytheans are being taken by the Angelius. I know the two aren't the same, but I was hoping that the Angelius have enough utility that their shooting +arm pierce + overtake is enough dmg output to warrant the decrease in overall melee, and increase in mobility + animus.
If I have a Ravagore and a couple angels (I'm startiing to think I'll not use a Seraph) will I find myself lacking/ wanting a Carn/Scythean to optimize my list? Typhon seems like a great option because hes amazing in CC but also has his sprays, but has the aforementioned shortcomings of high point cost.

The Angelius is great but it only gets to make one Armor Piercing attack per activation. If you're thinking of dropping the Seraph find another point to drop along with it and take a Scythean.

As you mentioned yourself CytoSlide, using either Lylyth with some of these units is effective, for me eLylyth is so much better. From what you have, personally I use Raptors, Anyssa, Sheperd and 2 Ravagores with her and most of the time 30-50% of the opponents army is dead on my second turn, occasinally the first. Unless they're built to counter, which we frown upon in our group. The Raptors with Anyssa are indeed great because their Light Cavalry -move allows them to perform hit & run type of attacks with ease. Not sure how point effective they are with another Warlock, but with eLylyths Pin Cushion and Feat they make Warbeasts disappear from half across the table.

The Typhon is also decent with her. For Absylonia I'd consider getting a Raek, it's just good.
