Thread: Fluff for Noobs

    Default Fluff for Noobs

    Down and dirty background:
I'm a convert from another gaming system. I caught a glance at the original Mauler and immediately fell in love with the Trollblood line. I understand the ruleset, though admittedly have yet to play a game due to tyranny of distance from my friends who play as well. I understand from friends, the forums and Trollblood Scrum (shout out!) the gameplay nuances, advantages and disadvantages of Trolls, builds, synergy, etc. I've been piecing together a force via eBay and online retailers a little bit at a time and cannot WAIT for my first game.

However, although I have a general idea of what the Iron Kingdoms are (factions/gameplay wise), I'm lost on the intricacies of the fluff. I'd welcome any recommended reading for a total noob such as myself as far as the fluff behind the world PP has created. I have the MKII Rulebook, TB Book and Dominion, and assume I need to read the fluff portions (cursory glance given thus far) in that order.

As far as further reading, my time is a precious commodity right now. Is there a one-stop-shop "State of the Union" type site, wiki, book or anything beyond the cursory blurb on BattleCollege I can pick up that is a quick evening read? Three kids and graduate school eats most of my time!

    Thanks!

There is not. Unfortunetly the fluff is scattered across 7+ books and a handful of No Quarter Magazines.

Now if only we could convince PP to put out some sort of chronological fluff, starting essentially from when Circle tries to assinate Madrak up until now when Grissel has found what looks to be a place for Trolls to build their first city. That is something I'd spend my money on.

Edit: There are a few of us that are giant fluff monkeys though and would be happy to try and answer any questions you might have.

There are no real one stop places for EVERYTHING to my knowledge. PP has a bunch on stuff on their website. http://privateerpress.com/iron-kingd...-iron-kingdoms

The Iron Kingdoms Wikia is pretty barren, but its the closest you will find to a compilation of everything.

There are no collected books on fluff, which is a real shame. There are a number of great short stories in No Quarter that could be collected.
So play like you've got a pair, or put down the metal and go find something made of plastic.

Maybe we can just throw out favorite fluff moments here then.

As mentioned elsewhere recently, one of my favorite parts was the ever-hungry Mulg giving Doomshaper the highest honor of being called "not food."
Huh. Six months away from Cygnar and I've forgotten how to win... until Kara Sloan goes all 'bullet to the head' several games in a row. It's good to be back.

anything that Mulg hits and survives should most differently be "considered" non edible. Debatable Of course

Well it's right in Mulg's and Doomshaper's fluff that Mulg called Doomshaper Krol, which is roughly translated as 'Not Food'. According to the fluff that IS the highest honor a dire troll would call something that he could certainly otherwise eat.

My favorite fluff parts are two-fold. I love the story in MKI Primal about Circle trying to assassinate Madrak and with Doomshaper's help Madrak cutting one of the strongest leaders of Orboros in half.

The second is the story surrounding the league model Noral Stonemapper and his interaction with Grim Angus.
