Default Help for modified Journeyman Campaign

    Hi Guys,

I was wondering if any of you lovely trixy Cryx players could offer me some advice.
My local gaming club are about to start running a modified Journeyman/Slow-Grow campaign system. The modified rules are...

    • Each round must include a minimum of 50% of the chosen factions Battle Box/War Pack
    • Each round must include a minimum of 50% of the previous rounds list
    • Caster change allowed at 25pts and 35pts
    • Round 1 = 15pts
    • Round 2 = 25pts
    • Round 3 = 35pts
    • Standard MKII scenarios

Now I am here because I have decided this event is the best way for me to start playing the only Warmachine faction that interests me. That?s right, the nightmare itself known as Cryx.
    My lists are as follows....

    15pts
    pDeneghra
    Slayer
    Deathripper x 2
    Pistol Wraith x 2

    25pts
    pDeneghra
    Deathripper x 2
    Scarlock Thrall
    Bane Thralls (min)
    Bane Thrall Officer and Standard
    Gorman Di Wulfe
    Pistol Wraith x 2
    Warwitch Siren x 2

    35pts
    pDeneghra
    Deathripper x 2
    Scarlock Thrall
    Bane Thralls (max)
    Bane Thrall Officer and Standard
    Bane Lord Tartarus
    Gorman Di Wulfe
    Pistol Wraith x 2
    Warwitch Siren x 2

Now this is where I am stuck as I?m not sure what 3pts to add in order to make the 35pts.
What advice would you offer for this, and would you change anything from the 15 and 25pts lists?
I currently own the following models, but purchasing a few new ones is not a huge issue.

    pDeneghra
    Slayer
    Deathripper x 2
    Defiler
    Pistol Wraith x 2
    Warwitch Siren
    Bane Lord Tartarus

    Thanks in advance

All those lists look good. We don't have many plug-and-play options apart from Pistol Wraiths for 3 points, but you could add Gerlak. I would probably drop a Siren and add the Withershadow Combine. You will never regret buying those and I don't think you need 2 Sirens for 2 nodes, you'll only be running 1 at a time anyway, so the other one doesn't need the focus.

Helldiver. Gives you another assassination vector.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Thanks for the replies. Both seem like really good options to me, I think I'll proxy the 2 lists and see which I like the best.

For what it's worth, I'll second the recommendation for the Withershadow. 3 more POW 12 shots on feat turn, plus all their other goodies.

Well I played 2 games at 15pts last night to kick off the league. As a player reasonably new to the game and completely brand new with Cryx I don?t think I did too badly, but we will get to that in a little bit.

Game 1 was against Legion who had pLylyth, Carnivean, Naga Nightlurker, and a unit of Blighted Swordsmen.

    Turn 1 - Legion
Legion got the first turn and ran forward (Carnivean and Naga on my left, Swordsman on my right). pLylyth advanced centrally using the available cover and cast Spiney Growth on the Carnivean.
    Turn 1 ? Cryx
I allocated 1 focus to Deathripper A and it ran up the left flank. Pistol Wraith A ran up the left flank into a forest. Pistol Wraith B ran up the right flank into a forest. Deathripper B advanced just off centre up the right. The slayer advanced centrally. pDenegrah advanced directly behind him in base to base contact and arced Crippling Grasp into the Carnivean through Deathripper A.
    Turn 2 - Legion
The Naga advanced into a more central position and took a shot at Pistol Wraith B which killed him. The Swordsman charged Deathripper A and only 3 ended up in melee range. All 3 missed their attacks.
Carnivean advanced centrally. pLylyth advanced to just behind the Carnivean and cast Eruption of Spines on Deathripper B causing a few boxes of damage but failing to damage the nearby Slayer or pDenegrah (I can?t remember if she did anything else but she was left on 0 fury).
    Turn 2 - Cryx
pDenegrah kept all her focus. Deathripper B advanced to block the Carnivean. pDenegrah advanced, popped feat and cast Crippling Grasp on pLylyth. Pistol Wraith A advanced across and had unblocked LOS to pLylyth 2 shots later pLylyth was dead.

    Final Thoughts
This game really could not have gone better for me. My opponent misjudged the placing of pLylyth which allowed me to get the assassination.

Game 2 was against Skorne who had pMorghul, Gladiator Titan, 2 Cyclops Savage, Agonizer and a unit of Paingivers.

    Turn 1 ? Cryx
I allocated 1 focus to Deathripper A and it ran up the left flank to the edge of a shallow river. Deathripper B advanced off to the right towards a bridge. The slayer advanced centrally. Pistol Wraith A ran up the left flank to the shallow river. Pistol Wraith B ran up the right flank to the bridge. pDeneghra advanced to behind the Slayer and camped her remaining focus.
    Turn 1 ? Skorne
Cyclops Savage A ran and riled on my left. Cyclops Savage B ran and riled on my right. The Titan Gladiator advanced and riled. pMorghoul allocated 4 fury to the Agonizer and advanced to behind a fence. The Agonizer advanced to behind a fence. Paingivers advanced in a line to be behind Cyclops Savage A and the Titan Gladiator.
    Turn 2 - Cryx
Deathripper A advanced across the shallow river on the left. Deathripper B advanced across the bridge and took up a more central position. Pistol Wraith A advanced across the shallow river and shot Cyclops Savage A twice doing a few points of damage. Pistol Wraith B advanced and shot at the Agonizer but missing with both shots. The Slayer advanced centrally to the edge of the shallow river. pDeneghra advanced to behind the Slayer, arced Crippling Grasp through Deathripper B into Cyclops Savage B and feats.
    Turn 2 ? Skorne
pMorghoul pulls the fury from both Cyclops Savages and the Titan Gladiator. Agonizer advances and uses Spiritual Affliction. Cyclops Savage B advances into melee with Pistol Wraith B and kills it. Cyclops Savage A advances into its melee range with Deathripper A and riles. Titan Gladiator advances centrally and riles. Paingivers advanced in a line to be behind Cyclops Savage A and the Titan Gladiator. pMorghoul advances to just behind the Titan Gladiator casts Admonition on it and feats.
Turn 3 ? Cryx (this is where it all starts goes wrong for me lol)
As I cannot allocate focus or use Arc Nodes this turn pDeneghra keeps all her focus. The Slayer advances into melee range of the Agonizer and kills it in 1 hit. Pistol Wraith A advances behind the Skorne lines and shoots the Titan Gladiator, but only hits once doing no damage. Deathripper B advances to block Cyclops Savage B. pDenegrah shuffles to be out of charge range of the Titan Gladiator and out of pMorghouls control area, casts Crippling Grasp at Cyclops Savage B and camps her remaining focus.
    Turn 3 ? Skorne
pMorgoul pulls the fury from both Cyclops Savages and the Titan Gladiator. Paingivers use Enrage on Cyclops Savage A and the Titan Gladiator. The Titan Gladiator charges Deathripper A and turns it into a wreck marker. pMorghoul advances to behind the Titan Gladiator, casts Rush on Cyclops Savage A, and Admonition on himself. Cyclops Savage B advances into melee range of Deathripper B.
Cyclops Savage A charges pDenegrah and after all the attacks leaves her on 1 box.
    Turn 4 ? Cryx
pDeneghra allocates 3 focus to the Slayer. Pistol Wraith A advances to behind pMorghoul who uses Admonition to move to the other side of the Titan Gladiator out of LOS. The Slayer advances around the Titan Gladiator but cannot make it into melee range with pMorghoul because Pistol Wraith A was 2mm too close to the Titan Gladiator (damn!). pDenegrah casts Ghostly on herself and charges into pMorghoul boosting to hit and leaving him on 4 boxes.
    Turn 4 ? Skorne
pMorghoul pulls the fury off both Cyclops Savages and the Titan Gladiator and then proceeds to beat pDenegrah into a pulp.

    Final Thoughts
Well what can I say, Turn 3 onwards it just fell apart for me. I suppose it didn?t help that I popped my feat far too early and too defensively.

All in all 2 very enjoyable games and I certainly learned quite a bit about the Cryx tricks and how much I really dislike Skorne. Next week 2 more games, but this time against Khador and Menoth.

    Thanks for reading

Does naga have magical attacks, or did you forget you had incorporeal. Did you remember pistol wraiths have a third death chill attack?

    Hi,

Yes the Naga has magical weapon on its ranged attack.
Whoopps about Death Chill as after rereading the card we played it completely wrong.I didnt notice it was an additional attack and as such we played the effect if the 2 shots hit.
