My friend ,who oddly enough is also PoM mostly plays tiers (maybe it's a Menoth thing) As Khador there is very few tiers I play and none I would probably play in a tourney as I like my Mercs and character jacks.

I found initially when I first started playing that my factions Tier lists were a great guide to what works well with particular Warlocks - especially when there is so much choice and no mandatory requirements.

I also love the fluff, which these in principle at least follow.

Nowadays, I'll use Tier lists if they offer me bonuses that I like the look of - such as Tyrant Xerxis' Fist of Halaak or Supreme Aptimus Zaal's Immortal Host. Otherwise I'll just stick to what I want to take and 'default list' it.

I like Butcher 1 at Tier 3. And I'd REALLY like to give Karchev's tier list a shot.

I'm slowly working through the Retribution ones. While they initially look quite daunting (three units? FOUR units!?) There's actually a large amount of overlap - 3 units of Mage Hunter Strike Force and some Shyeel 'jack kits will get you most of them, and Dawnlord Vyros and Incissar Vyros' ones can be made with 98% of the same models.

So far, I have Rahn, Ossyan and Dawnlord Vyros' No Quarter list done to 50 points and I'm a single Strike Force away from completing Kaelyssa's, but I've taken some time out to paint a ton of mercs for the IKRPG I'll be running come August.

They may not be 'competitive', but I have fun, which is vastly more important

    Ditto. And I really enjoy Vlad3's T4 currently: http://j.mp/vlad3

I've long been waiting for simply a human living warcaster for cryx. This will be the first

Also, eiryss is letting her true OPness show. I can only assume she killed an entire warjack with a bolt to the eye or knee and ripped its head off

To me it is funny because in order to gain the bonus of any tier means you build without some of the awesome stuff your faction gives you. Now i do build tier lists but not every game. So do you play with a tier only guy?
I did not read through all the posts, but I agree with the overall sentiment from those I did read.

Happiness is a fleeting thing in this world... If the guy is happy playing theme forces, let him roll with it.

When I first started playing mercs, they were already kind of divided into theme lists (Highborn Covenant, Searforge, Magnus' Agenda, etc.), so when I started dabbling into other factions, theme lists were already second nature for me. So needless to say, not only do I enjoy the theme lists (fluff and game effect wise), I really do not understand some of my friends complaining about how limiting they are.

I think it IS kinda funny to hear to merc's player's opinion on this topic.

It's like going to some starved country and complaining about not eating a snack since lunch. "What, you mean you get food between meals?"

In Cygnar, you duel with your words.
In Khador, we duel with our swords.

Fun game (without google or list constructors), which 'casters go with the following theme forces and what is the pre-dominant idea behind the army?
Wolf Pack - one of the Kayas?
    Viva La Resistance - Ashlynn
Mad Dogs of War - Butcher
    Runes of War - ???
Charge of the Horse Lord - Vlad3
    The Northern Crusade - Severius
    Crusaders of Sul - ???
Wanderers of the Faith - Amon
Knocking on Heaven's Door - Reznik NQ
    Family Reunion - Borka
    New Model Army - Feora
    Army of Light - Constance
    Black Widows - ???

When I learned that Vlad3 could run 2 Man O War Drakhun's in his Tier list yesterday, I immediately bought: Vlad3, a second Drakhun, Kovnik Markov and 2 boxes of Uhlans.

I already owned Drago and the Battle Engine, so I will be doing a Vlad3 T4 army in the near future.

    I don't think I've seen a single theme that I actually like.

Wolf Pack - Wolves, Circle maybe. eKaya?
    Viva La Resistance - Ashlynn?
Mad Dogs of War - Khador has war dogs, so let's say pButcher.
Runes of War - The greylord caster guy, Harkevich?
Charge of the Horse Lord - Vlad something, maybe 1?
The Northern Crusade - sounds Khadoran. Karchev probably.
    Crusaders of Sul - eKreoss?
Wanderers of the Faith - Its Menite, I guess someone like Sevvy
Knocking on Heaven's Door - Testament? Who's the menite guy that died and came back?
Family Reunion - no idea, let's say pDenegra b/c she has a sister.
New Model Army - I have no idea with this one, but being as most of them are Menoth or Khador, I'll guess this is eVlad.
Army of Light - Menite or Morrowan. Let's go with Harbinger.
Black Widows - Sorcha1 or something with widowmakers

I don't really know, but I'm still new.

You're thinking of Testament of Menoth, and Knocking is Reznik's NQ Theme Force.

I actually think Wolf Pack is a Khador theme force, Harkevich I do believe. Family Reunion is Borka's NQ theme force. Army of Light is Constance Blaize

It never even occurred to me to only play tier lists. I play them if they seem to add something fun and/or interesting to my game.

I have never played or known anyone who only plays tier lists.

    Hehehe, points all around!

Harkevitch is indeed the leader of the wolf pack, which brings
to mind the hangover. I've wondered since wrath if this was intentional.
