Question Hope its the right place for this

A couple of friends of mine, who play WMH, we were thinking about wearing Luchador Masks to a couple of SR coming up. Is their some Gaming Ettique that says not too?

Check with your PG and local laws (some places don't like people using mask in public places).

I once went dressed as Raul Duke, so yeah, take photos.

As AJ said, it probably depends more on local laws and the rules of the establishment that the SR is at. In some areas, it's against the law to wear masks in public like that. For example, I know that locally, some people were denied access to the movie theatre that the new Batman movie was showing at because their faces were covered completely in makeup and/or masks.

I would also check with the game store the tourney will be at...

As a sort of plan B, you might have to wait till you get there to don the masks.

Yeah, you don't want to give off the "I'm robbing your store!" vibe when you walk in.

In light of what just happened in Aurora, I'd be even more careful than normal about wearing masks in public.

If I worked at a store and someone walked in wearing a mask and carried a big bag/suitcase looking thing I would probably be ready to call the cops.

As an opponent, I wouldn't appreciate it if the person I was playing a game against wore a mask the whole time. Not 100% sure why, would make banter very difficult I guess...

    Cheers,

This 100%. At the moment it would be in extremely poor taste IMHO.

It's a fun idea for sure, but hold off on it for now. People don't want to be surprised in public right now. Someone might freak out. Regardless of what the law says about masks, the cops can still bust you on a disorderly conduct charge. Man, if I had my hands on a luchador mask, I'd be itching to do something silly too! Still, it'd be best to save the masks for a con tourney.

A con is definitely not the place to wear a random mask, unless you are full outfit and obviously doing cosplay. Even then, I wouldn't want to be at one of those places right now, with how I imagine the atmosphere to be. Felt slightly uncomfortable at the theatre this morning, especially when someone went out the side exit as the movie started up.... Jackass.

Good point. I suppose masks have gone the way of the trenchcoat. What a depressing world we live in.

ITs kinda sad when a psycho can ruin something fun. I just ordered the masks....one for my pg'er as well. Ill clear it with my LGS and PG b4 i even think about it.
The reason i asked this is because i figure it would bring a fun thing to a serious event.

Get the masks, and then as the tournament kicks off, make a little show of putting them on so there's no chances of surprising anyone. Just holler "1.2.3 luchadorks!" or something, put on the masks and everyone will have a good laugh. It is good to be sensitive, but showing up in costume is fun (it got victory points for last year's longest night for just this reason) and having fun at nobody's expense and bringing joy to the people around you is perhaps the best response to tragedy.
