Red face Today is my birthday and...

I wanted to gift myself something, so i started to look in the direction of warmachine and hordes and start to play them. I'm a total noob, but i read the rules and now it's time to choose a faction. I am terribly unsure what to play between Everblight or Cryx.
I love to paint miniatures and i'm good at it, and i think Everblight can give me more satisfaction than Cryx in this front because the monsters are really more beautiful than the warjacks and better to paint (metal is metal after all, you can do some nice paint jobs with metal, but flesh is really better), but regular troops and solos seems better to the Cryx side.

Well, my question is: can someone explain to me the main differencies in gameplay between cryx and everblight and why i should buy Everblight instead of Cryx? Thanks in advance, you can make an happy player!

the biggest difference is 1 is infantry based and focus and the other is beast heavy and fury. both hit like bricks and ignore a **** load of rules.

Uhm ok, i like beasts more than infantry. I already play warhammer 40k for infantry based armies, i don't need more infantry imho. I found a lot of miniatures i like, but i don't have a clue on how to build a decent list with them... what should i buy for a 25-35 pts list?
I like eThagrosh, Bethayne, Lylyth, Ravagore, Schytean, Seraph, Typhon, Shredder, Incubi, Hellion.

Have a look at ask neuty. he has a lot of quality lists. For me i really love his Bethaybe and Balphagore List the gators really make it a tough list. it is his Infantry heavy list. you can do both and be competitve in Legion where as Cryx as it stands is not a Jack heavy Force as they are more flimsy than Our beasts. will change witht the Kraken i suppose.

Buy two warbeast plastic kits. Magnetize them (we can provide help on this if you want it). This gets you any 2x(Scythean/Ravagore/Carnivean), so now you have lots of different combos.
Buy a shredder. Buy Typhon, an Angelius and a Seraph.
Now buy at least one unit of infantry. They're solely there to get in the way and then die. I recommend Legionnares.
Now buy whatever casters you want! eThags is a lot of fun. So is Bethayne. Lylyth has some ups and downs.

Also, happy "you haven't died yet, good luck" day!

Poke around these forums a bit, and you'll find tons of advice for starting out.

I magnetized my entire dark eldar army... it was a pain but still... I will do that for sure.

I disagree with this. If he is getting into the faction anew, he should play a few games without any help for lists. Neuty's lists are great, but I think you learn to appreciate them more once you've learned the faction a bit more.

But the problem is, if i have to buy models, i don't like wasting money and buy things two times because i got synergies wrong... I did this with warhammer and i spent 100€ more than i should have. My marker wasn't that far, but it was enough to force me to spend more than i should. I'm not that rich unfortunately.

I totally get that. I am not saying you buy stuff and experiment with it. A lot of the models people have said to buy are great ideas. I am talking strictly for list building.

That's a lot of models, especially when Seraph is fairly niche and better for experienced players than new.

My advice is to build the list you want to try, first. Then modify as you feel necessary. If you just leap in by buying models, you'll end up with purchases that you regret.

As for Legion vs. Cryx, since it sounds like you enjoy giant beasts more so than infantry, then Legion is your faction. We run beasts better than anyone else! Skorne come really close, though, but it depends if you prefer dragons or tortured, misshapen elephants.

EDIT: Also check the Army List section of the forums to give you ideas of what people run.
    Menoth: 215 pts.
    Legion: 185 pts.
    Mercs: 16 pts.
    Minions: 65 pts.
Models I've actually painted myself: 7
