    Default Basic Questions About Mercs

I'm completely new to Mercs (and fairly new to the whole game), so I have a few questions about how to use Mercs when you're not using them as your main faction.

    1. I can't use any Merc warjacks in another faction, period, unless I have an unbound game with Merc warcaster as my second caster, correct?

    2. Or would having some sort of jack marshall allow a Merc warjack in another faction with a single faction caster?

    3. The Merc Colossal - which contracts is it available for?

Basically, I currently play Hordes (Legion) and am looking to expand into a Warmachine faction. I'm trying to determine if a Merc contract would work for me or not...

1&2: you can have a merc jack with a merc jack marshal. So if you (for example) play cygnar and take Rutger Shaw, he will have to have a merc jack.

    3: Everything buy Searforge.

You can take Merc jacks in any faction provided A) that you have a Merc jack marshal who will work for that faction, and B) that the jack you want to take can be marshaled by that Merc. So you can take, say, Thor Steinhammer in any Cygnar or Khador list, and any Rhulic Warjack can be marshaled by him. But you can't take Thor in a Retribution list, and you can't have him run a Mangler, for obvious reasons. You can't marshal Character warjacks or Colossals, either. But if you want to take a second, Merc, caster with your faction caster you're not restricted to Unbound: 100 point games by default require two casters, and you can usually find someone willing to play a 70-point two-caster game for fun.

Galleon is not explicitly restricted from any Contract, but the fact that it has to be run by a Caster and that Rhulic casters can only run Rhulic jacks effectively locks it out of Searforge.

Okay thanks! One more question, about the Rhulic jacks and Rhulic casters. Is it two-way, meaning Rhulic casters can only run Rhulic jacks AND Rhulic jacks can only be controlled by Rhulic casters? Or is only of those applicable? Also, how can you tell if a caster or jack is "Rhulic"?

Rhulic casters have a rule that restricts them to Rhulic 'jacks and Rhulic 'jacks have a rule that restricts them to being controlled by Rhulic Mercenary Warcasters. The relevant terms are inluded in the model's description. For example: "Gorten Grundback, Mercenary Rhulic Warcaster"

Rhulic jacks can also be controlled by Rhulic jack marshals.

    Minor correction...

Ogryn is $40k, Ogrun is Warma/Hordes.

And as for an Ogrun warcaster, the Bearer of the Purloined Quill of Warma/Hordey Fluffness himself, one Mr. Doug Seacat, has said in many a thread that the ogrun species does not possess the ability to use arcade magic. Sever FORUM MEMBERS - keywords here folks!! - have said that they could maybe use divine magic. No one soul from Privateer Press has either agreed with or denied that statement about the use of divine magic by an ogrun.

So yes, it could happen kiddies!! But I wouldn't hold your breathe for that coming to pass any time soon...

I'm just going to say this and then leave:
    Mercenary.
    Minion.
    Ogrun.
    Rhulic.
    Warlock.

    ...and I'm out.
